Concerns with service.
We called this service to attend a family member. Symptoms were described upon calling as well as to the doctor. He failed to recognize signs the patient urgently needed hospital.

Worst customer service ever!!!!
I have used National Home Doctor in the past through private health insurance (Medibank) bulk billing and the service was excellent with 2-3hours wait times. This time, I called to book for an after hour GP (again with Medibank cover) at 3:12am on a Saturday due to a swollen eye and massive headache.

s expected, my insurance cover was up-to-date and my inclusions were valid (eligible for National Home Doctor Service through Medibank agreement). Therefore, I rang back National Home Doctor to explain that my cover was legit and valid, spoke with the same clueless customer service representative and was transferred to Nicole, the supervisor. I asked her to contact Medibank to verify all my coverage details if the online system is not functioning but she categorically declined. Furthermore, her arrogance and level of disrespect (hanging up in my face) was baffling. For an organisation working in healthcare, the administration (I.e customer service representative and supervisor) is horrendous and does not care about medical assistance and due diligence but more verse towards a money grab policy from patients. [I still do not understand why the supervisor did not want to contact Medibank to verify the required details.] Unfortunately, I did not receive medical assistance. At the time of writing this review, I am considering legal action upon my attorneys’ advice.2 comments

Have used them for 3 years BUT....
I live in a large suburb of Sydney only 12 k from Sydney central, I have been using the service for over 3 years, I called them up 2 weeks ago and waited for about 4 minutes, I was asked for my details etc as per normal, then they have told me there are zero doctors available at all for the whole night. I found this unbelievable.

ill have a doctor available in your area at the time of booking. Our team of Doctors work hard to see as many patients as possible however, different situations and circumstances (such as high wait time or Doctors themselves falling ill) can mean that we are not always able to see everyone. I needed to arrange a phone appointment with a doctor, which was fine until I mentioned I had asthma and a dry throat. I was then told that I could not be helped and I needed to go to emergency. I replied saying I didn’t think that was necessary. I was then hung up on. Disgusting, I just need to speak to a doctor...

An hour waiting as "the next in line" is dishonest and unfair
No estimated phone wait times. Unreliable and long wait times between call and doctor showing. Doctors can't prescribe a lot. Need more info on website for transparency. Need an ESTIMATED wait time on phone when on hold. An hour waiting as "the next in line" is dishonest and unfair.

t. Our doctors are not limited by what they can prescribe, however medications will always be at the doctor's discretion in accordance with the physical presentation of the patient. Generally speaking however, regular scripts should be provided by your regular GP who are au fait with your medical history. I would suggest if you have medication scripts that need to be filled and can't otherwise be done by your GP, that you have as much documentation on hand for the doctor and/or ask that your GP sends a fax to our service with a health summary of your current medications. I called 13sick for my 15 month old daughter who was extremely unwell. she had a high temperature of 39, was vomiting, and very lathargic & pale I tried booking an appointment with her with our usual doctors clinic but they were unfortunately closed and only taking phone appointments due to the corona virus, which there was no appointments left and no one was to assist either by phone, so I called 13SICK and thought this would be the next best thing, what a joke that was! on hold for someone to answer, in the meantime I did down the app as it suggest as per its voice recording but wanted to continue to speak to someone as her symptoms weren't inproving and it didn't have all the symptoms she had that I could selected for eg: High Temp. After I spoke with some she updated all the details and said I should receive a text, after 2 and 1/2 hours went by I receive a text at 2:30pm saying there was no Doctor available to provide a home visit and to call Nurse on Call. I tried calling Nurse on call which I waiting 45mins for and ended up giving up and took her to the Emergency department at the hospital and now waiting for a doctor who shouldn't be any longer then 20mins as the prioritise baby and small children. Disappointing, stressful and a waste of time for acute patient assistance.
Yesterday I needed locum Dr. as family member. A 000 call was nor warranted. I waited for 40 mins receiving recorded messages that I was progressing through the queue. I gave up and tried to use the App which is meant to "beat the queue". After downloading the App it took about 20 minutes to fill in all the details to progress through the App.

There was simply a "no service" message after entering all of the account details required before a booking could be made. The phone recorded message kept saying I was advancing in a queue but I clearly wasn't. There was no service according to the App. Please refrain from attempting to make it sound unreasonable that I did not provide patient details a day after trying to make a booking by phone and the App. There was NO SERVICE. perspective. Whilst there may not be a record of a booking per se, there will indeed be a call - we record all calls, even those that are terminated prior to speaking to an operator. There will also be a record of the app registration. We accept that you decline to provide the relevant information to allow for a full investigation in this regard. As advised previously, in the course of your phone call, whilst doctors on the road may have reached capacity or likewise in the event that we had a doctor cancel a shift thereby affecting our ability to service your area, our rostering team are continuously attempting to reconstitute the doctor workforce to accommodate the service requirements. That is to say, there is every possibility that we will have had a doctor in your area pick up a shift in the course of you being on hold, to accommodate the unprecedented demand.Similar opinion? So disappointing....
Called 6am on public holiday (got through after 35 mins) after which time they said they would send a Dr between 8am-midday. Great.
They called back at 11am and I missed the call as I was sleeping off my illness. I return their call (which took 50 mins for them to answer) to have them tell me the Dr has "called in sick" and no one else is coming. Surely they could have text me that!
In most circumstances, I brush this off as no big deal except this is he exact issue that all other reviewers are having and it isn't an isolated incident i.e. Dr's not showing up, long wait times on the phone.
Why bother having a service that continues to disappoint those in need.

Phoned 13sick tonight for my son and waited on the phone for 20min without reaching anyone. Hung up and tried again giving up after a further 15min. Very disappointing service.

Glad we have such a service
On hold 15 min, gp arrived within estimated time frame with sms updates (was 2.5hrs from initial call). Gp was quick, thorough enough and provided a solution to get our 6 year old through the night without having to get a sick child out of bed and with a plan for the following day. We’re very grateful to have such a service available. It may have flaws but I’d rather have it than nothing at all. Thank you.

Customer Service
On hold for 43 minutes, phone call lasted 2 minutes, as the staff who answered thought that Pectoral muscle pain meant 'heart issues'. Ridiculous. Was told to call 000, because they would not send a locum out for it, as they though it was a heart related issue. 2 Staff members both refused to listen, and both have no idea what a pectoral muscle is. They then didn't add in the information I was giving them, so when I went to complain via email to the company, at first they thought I was in the wrong until they reviewed the phone calls and saw how awful the two staff members were. Such a horrible experience. I have never had a customer service rep speak to me like that. Shocking. Just shocking.

Wish I didn't have to give a star
I used 13sick a few times long ago and found them great. Unfortunately they have clearly discovered they can still make a profit while providing awful customer service.
I waited on hold for 55mins to be told there was no doctors available. The app did not work. This was for my 3 year old daughter and I was very helpfully advised by the operator I could 'google' her symptoms.
I wouldn't waste the phone call.
If you see below their generic response to this is they 'will continue to try' but I seriously doubt they are trying at all.

I waited for close to 4 hours to then call up to see when the doctor was coming as my Symptoms worsened. And then got told that the doctor can’t see me and that I should go to the hospital and waste more time. You used to be a great service and now your crap.

Good service
I used this service for my mother in law last week. The operator was fantastic, and the doctor arrived within the 4 hours (close to 4 hours), which was fine as it’s a lot more comfortable waiting at home than a emergency room at the hospital.
Dr was friendly and kind and professional.
To others who have reviewed re the wait time, it’s important to understand that all patients deserve to be given the time by their doctor therefore you will be waiting... as was the person before you and after you, it’s standard.

To book an after-hours home visit, simply call 13SICK (that’s 13 7425) and speak to one of our operators who will determine if a home visit is the best option for you. Alternatively, you can download the 13SICK App from the app store on your phone.
Our Patient Contact Centre accepts bookings for home visits during the after-hours period, as defined by Medicare Australia:
- Mondays - Fridays from 6pm
- Saturdays from 12 noon
- All day Sunday
- All day public holidays
