A good car. As good as any in it's category
I currently own 2018 XUV500 W8 petrol AWD automatic. Previously owned Kluger, X-Trail - XUV is just as good as any of them . Drives well as any of the cars mentioned. XUV Doesn't feel bulky or cumbersome as the other previous cars. interior is roomy. There is bit of grunt while starting, quiet on cruise. Very economical. Highly recommended.

Love the look and power. To much weak, rattling plastic.
Just done 32,000kms now. Ok ill start with the good - It looks good and has plenty of power, good on fuel, even though not as good as the literature states, Has 7 seats 5 good size adults and 2 older children fit comfortably. With the addition of a few things, this early 2014 made 2015 model would be great. The semi bad to bad- Its very bumpy, you feel everything, even the smallest imperfections in a road make the ride terrible. needs airbag suspension added. The seats look great, but its no good if you cant get comfortable as the driver. I jus...Read more
t cant get the seat right, theres no tilt for the front or rear of the seat base, just up and down (which tore the drivers seat on the 1st use). Its in desperate need of a hud (head up display) If you lift the seat to far, you cant see the speedometer, if you adjust the steering wheel to far you block the view of the speedo. Simple plug-in hud fixes the problem. Also doesnt have the normal odometer that has the simple easy to use reset, for when we refill the tank. The best it has is a km left until you have to refill, based on how you have been driving (i assume) which is a menu on the stereo. So not something you can see where it should be. Come on guys, a new instrument cluster would be good. Being it literally looks like it was added after the the car was made, like somebody got some double sided tape and stuck it on top of the dash at the last minute of manufacture. To much plastic. Just waiting to break. The vibrations make it all rattle. Headlights fail, the plastic part on the rear drivers side guard falls off in the heat and 1 of the mudguards broke for the second time since new, just from the vibration. Very weak on either side of where 1 of the plastic screws fixes it into the plastic in the guard. The rear window washer has stopped working before and has again. Now theres alot of dry white bits falling on the dash from either side of the windscreen, the plastics on each side are vibrating badly and are very loose now. Alot of little things need to be done that would make this car great. Going to test drive a new model this week. Hope its better. I also think its pretty poor of our australian filter companies not being bothered to check there parts against the mahindra part numbers so we arnt stuck having to import from india or pay the rediculous prices from ford. Do yourselves and us mahindra owners a favour and check the Indian part sites and match the part numbers to your own. So places like repco, bursons and autobarn etc can tell us that they have aftermarket parts in stock. I cant believe i cant buy any accessories or aftermarket parts in australia. Even though most places have the filters, brake pads etc that match the genuine parts, and dont even know it. If they dont, there are many indian sites willing to ship the parts here. Theres fitted dash mats, seat covers, floor mats, weathershields and side steps. to go with the filters. I realise there hasnt been many sold in australia, but come on, not even the basic after market filters2 comments

Really like this car!
We originally test drove this car in 2013 and hated it - AWD drove like a FWD, brakes were horrible, felt like I was driving a massive truck.
Fast forward 3 years, and a new model XUV5OO, and it's a completely different car! It no longer feels like a big car, and is quite pleasant to drive. Being short, I have trouble with not sitting up high enough in most cars to see over the wheel - a problem I don't have in this car. Though the floor level is quite low, so it isn't hard to get into (2 & 4 yo can get in easily).
It has some really ni...Read more
fty features I haven't seen before - conversation mirror and ambience lighting amuse the kids, puddle lights come on turning corners (though not rounding bends cleverly enough) making it easier to detect changes in terrain, or wider than usual gutters, centre console is air conditioned so you can keep things cold ( coke can, chocolate, medications). Overtaking power is amazing. Fuel consumption is awesome (14kmpl), especially when considering it's a 7 seater. Rear seats are very easy to pop up and down, unlike other 7 seaters, and while this does leave next to no boot space, there was enough room for out kmart umbrella stroller. We drove this car from Gippsland Vic to Cairns Qld in comfort and without issue or surprises - other than how little we spent on fuel! Bluetooth can connect one phone for calls, and another for music. It's not all sunshine and lollipops: Being a newer car, the mechanical knowledge is not great yet. The car had a faulty accelerator pedal, which took 7 weeks to diagnose, including consultation with head office in India.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hit and miss
Only kept it up to 40,000kms as it was too problematic.
Problems:
Tailgate release failed, drivers power window regulator failed, all 4 door puddle lamps fell out and smashed, bluetooth microphone was useless above 50kms/h, hi-beam fuse constantly blew, coolant leak, engine out to repair oil leak, stability control inoperative, brake pad squeal and scored rotors, plastic rear wheel arch trim piece kept peeling away, voice control never worked, rusty welds on tow bar hitch receiver and the washer sprays for the windscreen were useless.

was good on fuel and there was plenty of passenger room in all 3 rows. If everything was ok we would've kept it but when trading it in after exhaustive shopping we only got $7k wholesale. No one wanted it and we didn't want the repercussions of a lemon selling privately.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect and waiting for automatic to come to Australia.
My car has done 40000 kms, and still in excellent condition. I am waiting for it's automatic variant which is supposed to come in mid 2016.
Try and feel a car which has done about 50000 kms rather than relying on my verbal explanation, and which will surely make you experience the reality.

This car was a complete failure for us.
Not all experiences will be the same as ours.
Rear diff replaced 4 times, all 4 windows replaced, brakes replaced, cd replaced, indicator replaced, windscreen rubber replaced, door lights replaced, interior on tailgate peeled away. Unexplained noises from engine, loud road noise and wobble at 110kph. This was all before 30,000kms. Its just done over 50,000 and the rear aircon has failed, the warrant has now run out. We have traded it now before it completely burns us. It's very economical and has some great features but the poor build quality may bite you in the end.

Great car and good value for money
I have had this car since 2012, might be done of the first few owners of the car. So far I am very happy with the performance and excellent fuel economy it offered. Have done 50000+ km so far in it and I am quite happy to have it. I did have some issues with the car as mine was a series 1 model, was mainly the brakes and power window, all these was sorted when the manufacturer updated the model and the dealer recalled the car and sorted it out. And with the service it's not expensive, also u can get the car serviced by any qualified mechanic. A...Read more

The best vehicle we've ever purchased..Looking to get another Mahindra for our 2nd car too
Luxurious, Economical, with all the extras that would normally cost a fortune with the bigger name car companies.
Drives great.. easy clutch & I have a bad knee. plenty of airbags for safety, Hill start so it doesnt roll when taking off. puddle lights for night when you get out the car to see where you're standing. :-)
in built dash GPS & reverse camera, so much legroom we have 4 teenagers . the fuel economy is fabulous we got 920 klms to a tank of diesel,, which cost us $105 to fill the tank. our servicing is very affordable approx $250 . ...Read more

Value For Money
I have owned two XUV's:
Xuv #1 - 2013 Diesel FWD 7 Seater : I bought this car secondhand and hence didn't know what pre existing issues it came with. Bought it with 25,000 kms on it and nearly put about $100,000 kms on it.
Generally, the car never failed us mechanically but i could tell there were underlying issues with it. Mahindra HQ were really good though, they replaced and fixed a lot of our issues even after our warranty expired.
To drive i hated the manual transmission on FWD a lot ! it just didn't work well for me. The long throw gears meant i was always slow from traffic lights starts. My wife had no issues with it though.
This lead me to sell and buy the automatic transmission.

My advice is : please dont buy a car based on the reviews you read, drive it and you would love this car.if mahindra could survive in tough Indian roads and climates, for years why cant it do it in the buttery roads in Australia.I bought this beautiful car a month ago and a big admirer to it.

Great value for money and no Diesel Particulate Filter.
Bought this SUV on Christmas eve 2013. [name removed] from Value Mahindra, Campbellfield were fantastic. So far I have done 3800 kms and my fuel efficiency averaged around 7/100 kms. The car has all the required features and I don't think you will find a car in this price range with Leather seats. Another main reason to buy this car is Euro 4 standard, which means there is no Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Very simple to maintain and spare part are usually cheap overseas, I haven't bought spares here but will have few options to get spares wh...Read more

biggest mistake buying this car
Hi Guys
Please dont make the mistake which I have done it. I thought same thing value for money but didnt know that is going to cost me much more than what I had paid for the new car.
THIS CAR REALLY SUCKS
I bought this car last year in march2014 . I started having issue since day one. the car was not inspected prior to delivery which I came to know after the delivery when I started having problems with the car. I spoke to the dealer and was told to take the car for 1st service and everything will be fixed.
Issue 1
On the delivery day we have found out there was a scuff marks on the rims during inspection which finally got fixed now. approx 1year after making so many requests to Manufacturer.

Excellent Value For Money
My XUV500 has travelled 30,500 kilometres since April 2013 and only one warranty repair was needed, disc brake pads noisy and grinding which was fixed with an exchange of pads at the first service. No other problems since. The turbo diesel performs well and comfortably towed a tandem axle boat trailer and load of 1800Kg from NSW to Qld when the engine was still being run in with about 10,000 kilometres travelled. Average diesel consumption mostly country roads and highways but also around towns is 15.4 Kms/Litre or slightly less than 6.5 Litres...Read more
/100 Kms as recorded at each refuel stop. Comfort and road holding performance is very good, build quality too. I agree with Christian that the instrument panel can be not as clear as it should be in certain lighting conditions. XUV500 is very well equipped with accessories too numerous to list here, and is a genuine 7-seater with dual air conditioning. I have no hesitation recommending XUV500. It is a comfortable, handles well utility vehicle that is economical to own and operate.8 comments

I remain happy with my XUV500 and at this time I would buy another when the time arrives to trade in.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Excellent value for money
An excellent value for money car, all the features are easy to use and drives well for a lower value of car, we have 15,000 on the clock and no issues as yet. Drives more like a front wheel drive car but pulls very well even with 7 people on board, and fuel consumption is excellent.
Had slight vibration at 100klms but has since disappeared .For a small 2.2 turbo diesel it gets along very well and pulls a trailer quite well, would help to have a lower first gear for towing though.
Excellent seating, fuel efficient, plenty of get up and go, simple to drive, plenty of features, Bluetooth etc
Multimedia display is hard to see in the daylight with certain functions, no boot space with all 7 seats up,gearbox a little far between some ratios.

My rear air-con is working but the front only sometimes works. Dealer told me I had to get a whole new panel costing over $700. I don't believe him. What could be the problem?

Mines going in to be fixed after new years. If ive had the air con on and get out to do shopping etc. When i get back in it isnt doing anything.. no air blowing out at all even though its on...until i go over a bump like a pot hole or speed hump, then it comes on as normal. Doesnt happen all the time. I would guess a loose wire. But dont know yet
Mine does that too. I think it's only a loose wire also. I'm going to take mine to another aoutoelectrician. See what they say. No dealer for me. They're terrible up here in Cairns
Let me know how you get on. Thanks
