Brilliant

I purchased the Aldi Lumina food sealer back in 06/2013 and i love it, gets used a lot and has never failed me. One thing to beware of is buying cheap rolls, i got some off ebay(the cheapest ones) and they were terrible, i had to use the seal function sometimes upto 3 times to get a good seal. When Aldi stock the rolls i bulk buy as they are better quality, i also purchased rolls from Supercheap auto of all places and they were good quality too.

GREAT KITCHEN ACCESSORY FOR SERIOUS COOKING

published

I love our vacuum food sealer. Has assisted heaps with food and storage from stews to pizzas. It's sad some buyers have not had the same experience. I need to buy more rolls! Where can I get them? If the product is discontinued please advise on a different brand that works. Eager for tips!

An update: Aldi has food sealers and bags in store now. They have changed brands but identical in functionality.

great AND seals ordinary freezer bags

published

I purchased one. I'm very impressed. It even seals ordinary freezer bags. It doesn't vaccuum them, but it does seal them! Mine was purchased in june 2015 and is white I colour (different colour from the one shown here. I'm wanting to buy more bags and am hoping aldi sell them

Complete rubbish - be warned

published

I bought a Lumina food sealer because a friend highly recommended it. Cost me $100 and completely failed after only 8 uses - sat there grinding away but not vacuuming out any air. So I had to shell out more $$ for a Sunbeam, which has not given any trouble at all in well over a year. Fortunately it accepted the Lumina rolls so at least they weren't wasted.

Breaks Days out of warranty

published

I purchased my Lumina Vacuum Food Sealer 29/06/2013. Now 24/07/2014, 25 days out of warranty, having only used it a dozen or so times the right locking clip breaks! Rang Aldi who put me through to Lumina who stated "No spare parts available" and that was all, no help what so ever was offered. Sorry but when you pay nearly $70 for an item I expect to last longer.
Best when little or no liquid.
right locking clip broken

Good

I use my Aldi Lumina Food sealer every week, it hasn't missed a beat. It's quick, simple to use and easy to keep clean. I don't need to freeze meat, as it keeps in the fridge for about a week, but freezing small portions makes thawing quicker. Fantastic for little tit bits for the dog and cat.
Really simple to use, and to keep clean.

Absolute rubbish only used 2-3 times has not even had a roll of bags put through. It did work the first few time but now doesn't seal anymore just sits there vacuuming away without sealing and do you think I can find the purchase docket etc for warranty or get it repaired!!
Cheap
You get what you pay for by the look of it

Look elsewhere

published

Unreliable with one out of 2 or 3 leaking after sealing and needing to use more bag to seal when it did semi work (no idea if is the sealer bar on the unit or crappy quality of their bag rolls).... and just now stopped sealing.... then just sits vacuuming with no sealing... cleaned it and no change is basically new as it has only been used lightly with 1.5 rolls through it.
pretty red colour and felt heavy...
Not "cheap" once look at like 30 bags thru it and completely failed (no Lumina product i have has lasted)

well why keep buying them and complaining not rocket science is it all mine work great

worked well, a few times....

published

The product when i got it worked well. Did exactly what it should have, seled, vaccuumed etc. We only used it about once every 2 months to seal about 6 bags.
Wouldnt you know it, at 14 months it stopped sealing, the heat strip is not heating up.....
And it is now out of warranty of course.

If you get a good one that keeps working these are a bargain, mine now needs replacing long before what i would consider a reasonable service life, even given the low initial purshase price.
inexpensive purchase price
it didnt last long at all....

No worries at all!

I have had mine for over 2 years and works great, you must keep your eye out ( about every 6-9 months) for Aldi to have the units on sale and then purchase more spare rolls! Love my food sealer! I use mine for freezing bulk meat and chicken purchases all the time
Works well! I use it for bulk meat and chicken!

Still going strong after 2 years

published

Not used that often, but does a great job at keeping food fresh.
No more freezer burn on your meat either. Great quality product at a good price. refill bags are cheap too. This seems to be available on sale at ALDI every year, so keep an eye out for it if your after a good vacuum sealer.

What a waste of effort and time

published

This worked well first few weeks. Then stopped all of a sudden. Called warranty, sent replacement. Pulled out of box brand new, connected power and the viola - nothing sealed or vacuumed - brand new and didn't work as well. Aldi needs to look at their supplier chain - dump Lumina. Will be seeking refund from Aldi. Stay away people this is not worth the money.

Old one worked for few weeks; new replacment out of the box did not work at all

In hindsight. Should have paid a bit more for a better known brand.

published

Worked well whilst it worked. Bought in bulk and only used it about every 4 to 6 months and because of that its outside the warranty. Have used it about half a dozen times and the sealers no longer working. It's a shame as its a good compact size but you do get what you pay for.

It was great, for two weeks!

published

The price was right,it was easy to use and definitely eliminated freezer burn. It downsized the space in the freezer and the bags supplied were of a good heavy duty quality.
The ability to create my own bag sizes was also a huge benefit.
In short the sealer did exactly what it said it would. However this didn't last very long at all.
I liked the size, easy to fit in the cupboard and move around. The price was great, as was the cost of the replacement bags.
Unfortunately after 2 weeks it stopped sealing. Aldi's refunded the money immediately, but it was a pitty as it fit the bill perfectly.

I was impressed with this item but broke down in first week only did about 10 things. When i checked veges that i had sealed 6 days ago, they had started to go to mush. Was not happy and returned for credit.
May try another brand. Any recommendations.

Terrible

published

I will get another replacement, and if I have issues with that one.....I will get a refund and upgrade to the sunbeam model.
Fairly certain the Aldi bags will fit with the sunbeam model, but will have to check first.
Bit of a bummer, as when it was working....it did a good job.
Was cheap compared to the sunbeam. Aldi sold the bag refills for $14.99 separately. 2 rolls in a box, 28cm x 6m.
It lasted for 1 hour, whilst vacuuming and sealing a bulk lot of meat, then the sealer function has stopped working altogether!

In my experience eBay is the best place for buying them. Much cheaper than from ALDI.
