Budget price (nearly) fully featured good looking smart watch
Headline. If you ignore price - 4 stars. If you include price - 5 stars.
After the death of my previous smart watch (Samsung Gearfit 2 Pro - which I mostly loved) and after extensive searching and reviews, I took the leap of faith and ignored the air conditioned shops and bought an Amazfit GTS online. A week or two later it was delivered to my door (Australia) from presumably Hong Kong.
Price - just under A$200 delivered. I.e. a little cheaper than Fitbit Versa (no real GPS) and Fitbit Charge 4 (which screams fitness in its looks and not nece...
Read moressarily a dress watch) and a little cheaper than the cheapest Garmin running watches. Best Features: I wanted a watch that I could use for running and cycling and direct load into Strava, but yet looked good enough to wear with a suit in the office, but didn't want to spend top drawer Garmin money to do so. The cheaper Garmin's just look and feel tacky and the more expensive ones are multiples of this price point (but better - see below). I also had preference for a squarer face for a smart watch rather than trying to imitate, for no particular reason, a round face traditional watch - this again rules out most competitors. How is the telephone connection?
Below average. It used to connect pretty well showing calls and text (but text in very small font) but of recent times it doesn't seem to want to connect to phone notifications but still connects fine...

Update after using this for several rides comparing with my Garmin 500 head unit. Whilst the GTS is very accurate on distance and time (except annoyingly it won't auto pause like a Garmin so your aver...
Read moreage speed drops at traffic lights, unlike my Garmin), its consistency on HR is average at best. Sometimes it is very good, but sometimes it will record a far lesser reading than real HR and on some rides it will be well less for 20 mins or so and then spot on for the rest without any adjustment of strap - go figure... Of more concern is the variance to Gamin (and Strava norms) of climbing / elevation change. This is often 20% or more greater on the watch than Garmin and presumably Strava uses some of this elevation data (which presumably is not so well damped or calibrated) to auto calculate power estimates for a segment or whole ride. As such, my estimated power calc's from Strava are massively variable on consecutive runs on same segment with same speeds and winds. I.e. the output data is not reliable and consistent, which is the opposite of the Garmin. In summary, this is not a valid replacement for a Garmin head unit (though I do enjoy the convenience of it), but if you just wanted a convenient input to Strava (regardless of power accuracy) then its fine (and cheaper than any other watch that does). Let's hope the boffins are Amazfit read this and respond accordingly with firmware updates .....
