Excellent credit card with great rewards

published

The Amex is my preferred credit card as it has a great rewards program. When you add up the benefits, they still far exceed the annual fee, although the reward points program has been downgraded recently. I like the statement credits and often get back >$100 year. Their online system is also the best compared to my 2 other credit cards. It's also quite good for online shopping as you can use with Paypal and there're no forex fees if you're charged in AUD even when the payment processor is overseas (unlike Citibank and many others).

No good anymore

published

This was such a good card before but has really gone downhill since. A free domestic flight before was changed to a $200 travel credit. The points conversion with krisflyer was the best thing and then they changed it WITHOUT NOTICE on 15th April. My hard earned points got cut in half with no warning and now earning will be the same as every other mediocre card. It's over for us amex.

Great credit card with Amex benefits

published

I had this card for many years before I had To close it for a loan approval. The offers on the card are pretty good. I could have up-to 4 supplementary cards without an extra fee. This card has annual fee but instead gives you travel credit to use on Amex travel portal which was easy to use as the range is wide and prices are not much more expensive than other travel booking websites. It’s well worth the annual fee.

AU$ 200 each year towards travel or accomadation

published

for the first few years with plt. edge, we had a free return trip every year anywhere in aust. except WA
we now get a flat AU$200 to spend each (valid for 12 months)
we always use it overseas and 85/90% merchants accept it. reasonable rewards but over-priced .

Why on earth would you now use this card? I only obtained it originally a number of years ago to receive Virgin Velocity points i.e. $1 AMEX spend for 1 velocity point and now they are worth half of what they used to be. It was good, now it is pointless. I'll be cancelling my card forthwith.

Amex is totally a joke!!!

published

For all existing cardholders that are saving up the points to transfer to one of the airlines program, you guys are about to get ripped off big time! Effectively your points will get halved, this is so unfair from amex. Dont mind they change the points system after 14 Apr. but it is so unfair for all points that are already earn that will get affected. Totally stupid.

So far so good

published

I have been using Amex Platinum Edge for a couple of years. Paid the annual fee but I got it back through the $200 travel credit that I can use for my trip bookings (flights or cars or accommodation). I like using Amex as it gives point rewards and we get triple points for groceries shopping. Amex also has special offers from various stores, but sometimes some stores still do not accept Amex cards or will charge a % surcharge if I paid by Amex card.

Terrible

published

We purchased our return tickets with a Platinum Amex card prior to leaving Australia. A little while into our trip, we decided to cancel our refundable tickets home and purchase new tickets with a different airline as we could get a better deal. On contacting Chubb Insurance who underwrite the card, we were told that our travel insurance would be voided because in the event of a claim, the original return ticket would not be used. This seems very slippery to be for a $1200/ annum card. We plan to cancel it.

Worst Customer Service I've Ever Come Across!

published

The travel department are rude and condescending to their customers. They will also happily hang the phone up on their customers midway through a call when you're politely explaining why you're not impressed by the way they are talking to you.
When you later call the complaints department, the team there will put you on hold for 20mins till you hear a voice on the line say "the people you are calling have evacuated the building, please call back next time"; or they'll inform you that a manager will call you back in which they never will! Never been treated so poorly by a company before! Absolutely Appalling!!
