What a great system!
I have a system facing north on a 22 degree angle and I'm blown away at how much hot water it produces! My booster hasn't come on in months, even after a cloudy day I have plenty of hot water.
Apricus referred me to a preferred reseller/installer and the whole process was easy and trouble free. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Apricus as a company and a solar hot water option. A great compliment to my solar power system!

Happy clientByron Bay
Outstanding unit - 6 years on!
I purchased my Apricus system 6 years ago at the height of the rebates. I was single living in a three bedroom house in Byron. I also purchased 5 kw of PV and was lucky enough to secure the 60c feed-in-tariff. Since then my household has expended having gotten married and with two boys. The system has not missed beat in 6 years. We have had to boost around 20 times in that period and often have visitors in our house (2 extra adults). It is the best hot water system I have ever had. I love it and can not praise the product more highly. I love not paying for my hot water!!

Keeps up with me and the family
I installed our Apricus 40 tube 400L system in the middle of winter last year... I remember the shortest day of the year here on the mid north coast NSW - we had a really nice clear day so I flicked off the booster to "test it out" and we had plenty of hot water for the 4 of us - We do use the booster after periods of extended rain / cloudy weather - but our hot water bills remain minimal. Plumber did a great job installing which I believe is more than half the battle!

split tank, long wait for replacement
My system is just two years old and we came home one Saturday morning to find the tank had split and my rain water pouring out onto the ground. We live on a rural property so have no mains supply. It took three weeks for a replacement tank to be sent after Apricus demanded photos of location of installation conditions. The tank sits on concrete under the veranda. Now I have a plumbers bill as Apricus won't cover labour. It's not my or the plumbers fault that the product failed, Apricus should cover the plumbers bill because if their product didn't fail I wouldn't have needed the plumber ! Good product, terrible back up support.

Evacuated tube system is great, company needs improvement
This was installed in mid 2011 and it has worked well for much of that time. Mine is electric boosted, and I have rarely had to boost it. These systems rely heavily on correct installation by the plumber, an electronic controller which is governed by sensors and a pump which circulates the water. A few months ago the roof sensor failed, probably due to the deterioration of the sensor wire's insulation. When that didn't fix the problem I replaced the controller and then everything worked well again. I was lucky to find that the spare parts compa...Read more
ny Solar Hot Water Parts have a plumber who can give excellent telephone support which allowed me to do it myself. Problem 1: very few plumbers are trained in these systems. Problem 2: the installation of the sensors is not easy and therefore is subject to errors, even by plumbers. Problem 3: the controller (now changed) gives poor error reporting, making it hard to trace faults for those untrained. A few days ago, the tank's top sensor failed and as I had the spare was replaced and that fixed the problem. If you don't feel confident in doing these repairs yourself (and things CAN go badly wrong) you will struggle to find a plumber in Sydney. The one I was referred to by Apricus did not seem like someone I could work with (when I discussed the issue with him) so I was grateful to find the spare parts company in Brisbane.1 comment

Do not install Apricus
I just removed my five year old Apricus system where it should have lasted for 10 years. I had a horrible experience with the system and company. First, when it was installed, the plumber inserted a valve upside down. After numerous and frustrating phone calls, it was finally fixed. Second, even though the company claimed that the system is used widely in Europe, my system always lost a huge amount of temperature overnight. From April to October (in Perth), I'd have to use the booster to get any hot water for a shower in the morning. Third, som...Read more
ething else went wrong with the system. After more frustrating phone calls, a plumber determined that a valve needing replacing and would cost $1,300. Fourth, my dealings with the installer and company were always negative and extremely frustrating. Do not install an Apricus system. There are hardly any plumbers around who are trained, replacing parts is very expensive and the company obviously has serious issues with customer service. The same principal as cars applies - go with an Edwards or Solarhart system. They're common and simple technology.2 comments

System Works Well, Support Is Atrocious
After some years of faultless operation I have a nasty leak in the manifold. Can't get Apricus to return calls, so we're reduced to running outside to turn the water on and off when we need it. Come on Apricus, a bloody phone call is just not that hard.

Works perfectly Wouldnt be without it
Have had this system for 5 years. Keeps the water really hot even in the winter We almost never have the electric booster on and when we do only for two hours prior to having our showers. Apart from having trouble with the pump which failed after 3 years and was replaced FREE have had no troubles at all.
To the ones that say it doesn't work I would say its poor installation that is causing it. One suggestion is to bleed the system at the valve on the hot water cylinder as gas can build up in the tank and prevent circulation. Another reaso...Read more
n is that the sensors are not installed correctly and don't allow the pump to turn on. We had a Crow pull the top sensor out of the tank ( Not enough silicone) and system stopped circulating. Reglued it and had no more trouble. Our roof is north facing with correct slope on it. Can actually boil the water in the summer it is that good. We are building a new house and will certainly have another one installed. Have Friend in Coffs with one and it works beautifully as well. A neighbour across the road has an East facing unit and it also works fine and was installed by the same guy as ours. UPDATE The one way valve that stops backfeeding at night got some calcification on it which prevented it from closing and so cooled the water in the tank overnight. Replaced it for $11 and fixed the problem. Also had to replace the tempering valve on the house. However that wasn't associated with the Apricus system. I have fitted a temperature gauge in the spare outlet in the top part of the hot water tank and so know exactly how hot our water is. Bought it on line for $14 and it screwed right in. So I keep the controller temp reading the roof tank temp and so know if any difference due to backfeeding, etc.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Seems OK now after several attempts to get it right.
Had a 215L tank with 22 tube collector fitted to our house in Brisbane March 2015. Roof is perfectly positioned - N 2 deg E. However, from the outset the system failed to heat the water to any extent despite good periods of sun. After installation, three visits by (different) plumbers sent by Apricus, the last of whom was here for over an hour whilst on the phone to the Apricus "guru", it has finally started to produce hot water in some sort of quantity. But it is rapidly approaching summer here - 29 deg and full sun in Brisbane now so if wa...Read more
ter was not hot the system would be down the tip! Had a Hills system previously that seriously out-performed this one (would give good hot water even on cloudy days) but Hills system is no longer available. I am reserving judgment on how good the system is until weather cools down again - at least Apricus are only too aware of the problems we have had if the system fails to heat the water when it is cooler. May I add that I have been experimenting with its performance with the electric booster switched off to see how it goes. The previous Hills system only ever needed the booster switch on for a max of 7-10 days a year. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The biggest disappointment has been that Apricus have always sent a sub-contract plumber out to look at it. In the circumstances, wouldn't it have been a good idea for Apricus themselves to attend?3 comments

Labour warranty only 12 months insufficient to cover when faulty tank needs replacing
Tank leaking and been replaced after almost 4 years from installing but now I will now be out of pocket for the plumber and electrician, probably over $600 to install the replacement tank and re-connect to power. What is the point of the warranty not covering labour when labour is necessary to put the replacement for the faulty tank in and it is not my fault? Bought the system in good faith that it would help with saving energy...

No good - and Apricus could not care less
After spending thousands of dollars on a product I expect it to last more than 4 years. Now incurring huge costs because of equipment fail - even tho the adverts plaster 15 yr warranty everywhere most parts are not covered more than 12 months.
Do NOT recommend this product to anyone

Absolute waste of money
Was recommended to us by plumber when our old off peak died. Had a gasket leak on one side of the water pump then the gasket went on the other side of the pump. Finally a crack opened up in the pump housing. Now the solar controller has failed. Each failure has resulted in astronomical water and electricity bills (the electric booster unit was working full time each fault) as they occurred while we were away travelling. Water and electricity bills have been compared from the times that it was working to when not working and we are out of pock...Read more
et over $4000 since we bought it. Might take it up with fair trading. It was the most expensive system available and actually it is not very good when it is working. Maybe it has never worked properly. The Solastat controller was the last thing to fail and when the plumber phoned them to get a part for it they told him they did not use these anymore and good luck finding parts. When I contacted them once they told me they would send someone out to fix. The repairer phoned to arrange a time but this was over three weeks after I had the repair done, otherwise another huge electricity/water bill. I think APricUs is actually three words joined together. Apart from the issues above and the fact that this sometimes solar but mostly high rate electric irrigation system has probably devalued my home by $50,000, it has been a good system. I would highly recommend it to all the staff at Apricus.1 comment

I have had exactly the same experience as Ian Bryant. Lots of visits from so called experts, lots of money spent (new tank, numerous controllers, new pumps, NEW PLUMBING, lagging, reinstalling tubes, sensors, thermostat) but it is still nearly useless. It has been over 6 years of frustration.

Product not working and no support from apricus
Installed our apricus system in November 2014 on the basis that it was supposed to be so superior to alternative solar systems. Initially we were very happy with the system and all seemed well, until, we received our first electricity bill. Our electricity consumption increased by 50% in the first three months after we installed the apricus system.
We switched off the electric back up off to see of the solar tubes worked. The solar tubes are not able to heat the water even on cloudless days. We cannot go more than 2 days without the electric ...Read more

Great for the first 4 years....
We had no problems with our system for the first four years and we were delighted with it. But now we are scratching our heads as to why the pump doesn't work. We have replaced the controller unit and the check valve, and still the pump refuses to circulate the water. We are now facing the fourth visit from a plumber. Too much expense.

Performs wonderfully in frosty Armidale
We had an Apricus installed just before winter in Armidale, Australia's highest city. The installer, Rohan in Coff's Harbour, was really nice and helpful. Above all he was honest - we bought PV too, but he didn't want to upsell us to make an extra buck, he recommended we only get what we will consume ourselves.
We have been really impressed by the Apricus performance in cold weather. We have had frosts here constantly over the past few months. The Apricus gets the temperature up to above 45 degrees on sunny days, so we don't need to boost. ...Read more

Good system, once the bugs are sorted by a good installer
In chilly Hobart we have a 40 tube, 315l system that is working wonderfully well. Happy to endorse Electrical One as installers, who rapidly sorted out a teething problem with a controller unit. We've gone from 8kw/day on hot water to less than 1kw/day. Early days yet, but very happy so far.
Efficient system overall, with wonderfully insulated tank.
Controller units a valuable feature, but difficult to use for novices.

people should read the warranty carefully ....some parts have have limited life
generally the system is good ..however.. my experience with this system the pump and the controller have both broken down and instead of saving money it has cost me money...the warranty is only valid for one year for some parts.....read the warranty carefully ...one would think that with the main hardware having a 10 year warranty it should be for the whole system...read the warranty or you might get cought like i did
when it is working...the water is hot
keeps on breaking down and needs new parts that arnt covered under warranty after 1 year

After freeing some calcification from the tempering value in order to restore pressure - which was successfully completed - water now runs from the over flow (PRTV) pipe. To save water and power, I have turned off the inlet tap and electricity to the tank - meaning there is no hot water. What can I do to return the system to proper operation, please? Thanks.

It is normal for the ECV, or if one isn’t installed, the PTRV,to dribble water each day as the water heats up and expands. The volume water can be anywhere from a few cups to as much as 10L depending on the system pressure and temperature rise. (for 50L heated, 1L can dribble). Solar hot water system may relief more pressure as the temperature can get much hotter than an electric boosted tank. Restore to normal operation by reversing your turn off actions.
Thank you for the reply, but as I wrote, "water runs from the...pipe", so much so that there is not enough pressure building in the tank to allow forceful water from house HW taps. I had a punt and replaced the PTRV. That has worked.
Before inserting the new valve I pulled up the handle and noticed that a mechanism within the valve was shifted. Doing the same to the old valve produced no effect.
I can only assume that the old PTRV had failed, and was in a continued "open" position which allowed water to constantly run out of the tank when the inlet tap was 'on' which created pressure within the tank.
I am not a plumber, so if my thought process if wrong, please respond so I can have my thinking straightened in case this incident repeats in the future. Thank you once again. Stay safe.
