I have started my 8 week old on aptamil gold reflux he is pooping 4-5 times a day and it’s yellow pasty poo. Is this normal he’s been on it for a couple days now.

Aptamil

Hi Jay, The thickener in the formula is a fibre so it can add bulk to the poos. Things should settle down in a few days as baby's gut gets used to the formula. If you need any further help please call us at the Nutricia Careline 1800438500 Cheers Sue

3.5 month old baby born with nasal regurgitation and kept in nicu for a month. Baby has been on Aptamil reflux for 2.5 months the nasal regurgitation is still happening but no where near as bad as it was on other brands.my concern is she has runny mustard/ yellow poos after or during every feed. Is this considered normal? I’m changing her upto 10 times a day. A lot of the times she looks like she’s struggling to poo but and pushing and vocal about it… is this normal ? Confused ftm

Hi Medusa, poos can be runnier and larger volumes when using the Aptamil Reflux formula but that does sound a bit excessive! Please call us on 1800 438 500 so we can ask some more questions to help you further- kind regards, Hilary

Hi there,

I’ve been using the Colic & Constipation formula for a month or so with my now 3 month old who was only doing number 2s every 4-5 days and in pain, and this formula helped keep him regular but he seems to vomit a lot after each bottle and continues to vomit until his next feed. This happens almost every bottle (occasionally we get lucky) we tried the Reflux formula which seems to help him keep it down more but it blocks him up more and his having a lot of trouble getting it out of the bottle teat.. we moved up a teat and it was a little better but still not great.. they don’t offer a vari flow teat for these bottles.
Is there a different option for us to try? We can’t seem to get it right. Or do you have any other suggestions?

Hi, my baby is 4.5 months old. We've been transitioning him from karicare to aptamil for reflux for the past 3 days (2 scoops of old, 1 of the new in 150ml). His spilling has subsided drastically, but he has a lot of gas and I can tell he is in a lot of pain before the gas is able to work its way out. Is this to be expected? Is there anything we can do or does this indicate the formula doesn't agree with him? Thank you for your help.

Hi, my baby is now 12 weeks old and he is on Aptamil gold from birth. He has mild reflux but Aptamil reflux is too thick for him. Can I mix 1scoop Aptamil gold with 2 scoop Aptamil reflux for 150ml??

Can I mix the two??

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Aisha, yes that is fine as they are both the same scoop to water ratio. Just make sure you use the scoops that come in each can. Make sure you also change the teat up a size if need be as well, so he can drink more easily. Cheers Sue Nutricia Careline.

Hi, my baby is 6 months and we have been advised to use aptamil anti reflux. At the beginning my baby loved it. We were over the moon. Although, We have been using it for over 2months now and for about 3 weeks have been experiencing multiple diarrhoea’s a day. About 4/5 explosion, yellow, pasty poos. Waking up in the middle of the night with a huge poo.

The vomiting had stopped but again, recently has started up again.

My baby seems to be very happy in the day time but wondering what I should do, I feel like it’s too many poos.

Hi Bee, This might be an indication that baby has an allergy to cows milk with the diarrhoea and vomiting return. Can you please contact us at the Nutricia Careline so we can talk this through further ph 1800438500

My daughter is 7 weeks old. We were using another formula and we changed it to Aptamil reflux. Now she has diarrhoea ( pooping 7 times a day) is this normal or should we go back to our old formula?.

Hin'e Campbell ·

Hi Aroshini, how long has your daughter been on the formula for?

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Aroshini, Aptamil Reflux does contain fibre due to the thickening agent added. Fibre can affect bowel motions and diarrhoea can result. There are some options for you, and it would be best to contact us at Careline so we can assist with individual advice. Please call 1800 438 500 or email [email protected] and one of our dietitians or nutritionists will be able to suggest some options for you. Warm regards, Caroline - Careline Nutritionist

My baby is on aptamil gold + reflux. She seems fine with no vomits or issues for weeks except really bad constipation and solid poops since starting this. Should we transition to another aptamil and/or can we mix another aptamil with the reflux one?

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Katerina, I'm so sorry regarding the delay in getting back to you- we've had a technical issue. I'm glad the Reflux formula is working well for your baby in terms of the vomits but baby should not have solid poos on this formula. Does baby have any other symptoms like rashes, congestion, poor growth, blood or mucous in poos? There will be other and better options available for your baby so please call us at 1800 438 500 so we can help you further, kind regards Hilary

Hi my son has been using aptimal reflux since 4 weeks he is now 9months old eating 3 soils meal during the day and drink 3 bottles.i feel he is doing alot better due to now introducing solids. Question can I swap now to normal formular or do I have to gradually change .....

Tip for mixing formula do as directed on tin I have had no issues what so ever . U need boild room temp water for it to work or it will go lumpy.... mix well and then heat up . In bottle warmer.
If you try to do the other way it will not work I use Tommy tepee and go up a teat size because it is thicker... and you won't have an issue.

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Vanessa, most babies do outgrow their reflux from about 8 to 9 months old. You can now move to a normal formula. If you do it gradually, your little one will get used to the different texture of the normal formula slowly. If you would like detailed information on how to do this, please contact us at Careline at 1800 438 500 or email [email protected].

I stated my son on aptamil gold + reflux about 2.5weeks ago. He'd previously been breastfed with reflux issues on willbys and omeprazole, but my milk supply has dropped below needs so transitioned to formula. My son is still vomiting but it's improving but he's become extremely constipated and screaming in pain. I haven't seen anyone say this formula constipated their baby but the opposite, could it be an intolerance and something?

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Priscilla, Aptamil Reflux contains plant fibre and this can sometimes lead to constipation in some babies. Please contact Careline at 1800 438 500 or email [email protected] and one of our dietitians or nutritionists will be able to discuss further options with you as there are other solutions that might work. Intolerance is possible but we would need some more information which is best discussed with us directly. Warm regards, Caroline - Careline Nutritionist

Hi there my daughter is throwing up alot of milk can i mix aptamil reflux with aptamil gold+ half N half or use a little bit of the aptimal reflux with aptimal gold + so, that it's not too thickened?

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Varsha, yes you can certainly mix the Aptamil Gold with the Reflux in whatever ratio suits your baby to get the right consistency- this is easy as they both have a 1 scoop to 50mls of water ratio. Another option is to use your Aptamil Gold+ and thicken it with Aptamil Feed Thickener- that way you can adjust the thickness to suit your baby. With this product, you can use parts of scoops. Please call us on 1800 438 500 if you need more help with this option. Kind regards, Hilary

Currently having a lot of trouble with this formula it won’t come out of the bottle at all. I’m using fast flow teats as well from tommee tippee

I use this formula with my son since he was about 1-2 months old, we use Avent colic and natural flow and bottles teats number 2 he gets it just fine

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Kiri, if your baby is still struggling to drink the thicker milk, you could try a variable flow teat that has a slit/X cut/Y cut in it- this will certainly help. Another option is to use a standard cow's milk formula and thicken it yourself using the Aptamil Feed Thickener- this way you can add as much or as little as your baby needs and you can control the thickness. Please call us at 1800 438 500 if you would like to chat more about this option. Kind regards, Hilary

What’s the best way to prepare this formula to stop it from getting so thick and blocking the teat before bub has finished feeding? I am using a fast flow teat and it’s still blocking towards the end.

Aptamil
Aptamil ·

Hi Taylah, the Aptamil Reflux is meant to get thick to help with reflux and we recommend using the next teat size up or using a variable flow teat that has a slit or a 'Y' or 'T' cut to allow you to adjust the flow. If you are doing that already and still having difficulty, please contact us at Careline on 1800 438 500 or email [email protected] and we'll be able to assist you further. Hi Molly, the Aptamil Reflux can be used for pre-term babies once they have reached full term for their corrected age. Please follow the advice of your paediatrician. It says in the tin that the formula is suitable for newborns. My son is 3 weeks old and I am at my wits end changing and cleaning vomit ridden bassinet sheets and sleeping bags.

The formula will not work with newborn teats so we tried a variable teat as recommended. They are all way too fast so how do we use this formula for a newborn baby?

Alexis Platt
Alexis Platt ·

We use to pre mix first and left for 10-15mins before have bubs her formula on the variable teats as was way to fast
It thickens up after 5 mins
Give it a try :)

Hi,

I’ve had my nearly 7 week old on Aptamil AR for nearly 3 weeks now due to reflux. It has been fantastic for the reflux, we only leak very slightly after bottles now but within the first few days of starting she was constipated and then we went to bright yellow (almost fluro yellow) explosive diarrhoea for about 5-6 days. It was a moose consistency as well and it just kept coming! After the 6 days everything went back to normal regarding her poop but we have just recently tried giving her a larger bottle 200ml instead of 150ml for her night feed which we have only done for about 3 nights and she’s back to the diarrhoea again and it just keeps coming when she’s going! She’s not in any distress or discomfort and is taking her bottles perfectly but I’m just wondering how long this is likely to last going back and forth with poo changes?

Aptamil ·

Hi C_Wilson, we would recommend that you contact us directly on our Careline so we can ask you a few more questions about your baby's feeding routine. Generally babies may have digestive and stool changes when changing or increasing their formula but it does settle over time. Our contact number is 1800 438 500. We look forward to hearing from you soon! Kind Regards, Nutricia Careline.
