Poor customer service

published

I have an Astral RT Robotic Pool cleaner which was purchased from a pool builder on 14th June 2017 but not commissioned until March 2018 as my new build home was under construction. The robot simply stopped working this month.
After taking the robot to an authorised Astral dealer I was told that Astral would not service the robot as it was out of warranty. This in itself is questionable as the robot was only used for a little less than 3 years.
This robot was an expensive purchase and I expected many years of trouble free use. Sadly it seems that you must amortise the cost over the warranty period as Astral will not support after this time. Very poor.

Purchased in June 2017.

Disgraceful Design

published

I purchased this robot from PoolWerx and right from the start the cable kept tangling. My pool man told me he had seen many Astra robots and they all do the same thing. The cleaning filters are ridiculously designed. The treads perished even following all instruction for care. I paid $2530.00. I would never purchase another Astra again. I have since purchased a Zodia and its great. Light, easy to clean filter system, no tangle cable.

Purchased for $2,530.

Very Poor Quality Motors

published

I have had 2 RT robot cleaners, the first one being replaced by Astral for no cost. The current one was supplied to me on 30/06/2017. On 3/9/18 both motors had to be replaced. On 9/4/2019 the drive motor was replaced again under warranty. This robot has again stopped working. Out of warranty by 7 months. I know what it costs to pay for another motor. The quality of these motors are disgusting. Each year, one or both motors stop. I have sent an email without any reply.....don't bother ringing them.....you will be on hold for 30 mins or longer. Will never buy from this company again. Dolphin is where I will go.

5 year old and now in the bin

published

I spent almost $2k on this product in 2015, in the 5 years that i owned it, it has been so many times to the repair shop that I swear that it knows its own way by now. Well this time its not coming out. I have spent almost as much fixing it as I spent buying it and now I have another $800.00 bill. It's badly designed and badly manufactured. Do not buy this cleaner!

Purchased in September 2015 for $2,000.

LEMON!!! Buy something else

published

My RTX started off working well. After about 6 months, it broke down. I had to take it to the service department in Seven Hills. They repaired it under warranty, but I had it back there no less than 3 times in the next 6 months. On one occasion, I had to wait 6 weeks for parts. On top of that, the cord gets tangled every time when it is working. The filter assembly is poorly designed and the (very) small plastic parts break easily. I have given up on it and am looking for something else.

Purchased in September 2018 at Poolwerx for $1,800.

The right to repair: which brands are making it easier for you to fix their products?

The right to repair movement in Australia is calling for companies to make it easier for their products to be repaired. Here are some electronics and appliance manufacturers who are starting to listen and make it more feasible for consumers to repair, rather than replace, their items.

Don't waste your money

published

Purchased mine through Poolwerx. First repair (internal part dislodged) handled under warranty. Next repair (broken drive belt) cost (from memory) a couple of hundred dollars and current repair (replace failed control box with second hand unit) will also cost $200. Doesn't clean down to 2 microns as indicated; still have to manually clean pool of finer particles. My local Poolwerx store doesn't carry them anymore.

Purchased in September 2017 at Poolwerx for $1,900.

Good pool cleaner

published

Bought the RTX model in December 2016.
Very good at cleaning pool including picking up bottom dust and leaves. Easy to clean as well. Only problem after 3 years was the belts needed replacing due to general wear and tear. Cost only $70 and considering its regular use over the past 3 years I was very satisfied.

Purchased in December 2016 for $1,500.

Have had my Astral now for five years, had the original cord replaced to a non tangle cord.

our RT robot collects all the sand from the beach, leaves and small bits of balloons.
Safe to run while the grandchildren are in the pool playing, they just go over the top and love the water bubbles hitting them in the belly. S nice to not worry about any hose being pulled out of the skimmer box and air going to the pump.

Purchased in October 2014 for $1,296.

Disappointing

published

Purchased an Rb robotic cleaner Oct 2015 for $1900. Right from the beginning the cord tangle up and was a nightmare to straighten. Just out of warranty I spent $600 on repairs and 6 weeks later the motor went. Quote to repair was ridiculous. A really disappointing experience with Astral. About to buy a new robot and will never touch Astral again, mainly due to lack of helpful service.

Purchased in October 2015 for $1,900.

Unreliable for the price with poor backup

published

Bought an RTX cleaner 3 years ago already had motor and pump replaced 12 months ago. The unit has failed again outside warranty. Tried to contact the customer service line which is constantly busy on hold for 30 mins plus only to be fobbed off to a dealer which did not want to know about the unit. For the money you spendon the unit ($2k) it is absolute rubbish with questionable after service support. Parts are expensive to replace, ended up going to a independent dealer and buying a new Maytronics S200 unit. Stay away from this brand!!

This product is appalling. No tangle cord is a myth and lies. The it tangled as soon as it hits the water meaning the use length and far reach areas of the pool don’t clean. I’m into my second astral pool cleaner as well after my non function first was replaced. Stick to Dolphin, I most defiantly will change!

When using the rxt cleaner today dirt started coming out the top of the machine? Any ideas?

You mean past te spinning rotor ? That would mean that the particles are so small that they pass the filter. That is easily possible as the filter has very large pores and is really only meant for leaves. Also, the 2 cartridges (I assume you have the model with the 2 cartridges) are very hard to clean and there is a little plastic box in the cartridge where the dirt will always accumulate behind.
Forget it. The whole design of this model was a failure, they abandoned the production after a small time. People sometimes have to cut their losses and buy a decent, I mean non Astral Pool product, or start a fight with this company who will not answer you anyway.

I have had the RTX & RPX recommended by a dealer but after owning an Astral Max5 and having such a bad experience with the product, I am very wary of this manufacturers products. They are charging a premium price but I would like to know from anyone who has had one of these for a while to see if the have had any issues. Anyone?

I have an RT which worked well until the engine died. Problem is, there is no spare parts in Australia and therefore I've now been waiting for 6 weeks for spare parts to be shipped over from overseas. I rang a few times and each time I'm told that everything will be fixed in 2 weeks. So, it might work well but make sure you are aware of all the warranty issues if you have a problem with it.

Yes, issues and issues and issues. Shortly after I wrote my review up here, the robot stopped working as it should, and now only takes in an odd number of leaves. Expensive and useless, just like the Astral pumps and chlorinators.
