AstralPool RTX has been discontinued. See all AstralPool Robotic Pool Cleaners.
Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my experience with the astral pool RTX robotic pool cleaner.
I have a medium size pool and the RTX came with the house with we bought, alongside a zodiac mx8. Precious owners were smart. The RTX in summer when the pool is used by the family and the mx8 over the rest of the year with the large leaf canister making so much sense!
So the 2015 RTX model did not see much use, I can guarantee.
Last week it just stopped. No special flashing lights on the aqua smart, robot simply dead in the water. I do a visual c...
Read moreheck, nothing obvious, all parts are there, belts are ok etc... I look online for a simple t’shooting guide, nothing. Not many videos neither. Then I become suspicious since it’s a $aud 2000 beast. How can this be possible? So I start calling down the local astral resellers, they all tell me the same! Not worth even looking into a repair, all of them fail within a handful of years. And if I want to save the planet and reduce waste, then it will cost at least $400 for any of the motors and a few weeks since the poor robot has to go from pool shop to actual manufacturer repair labs and back. But wait, now Zodiac and AstralPool have merged, so best to buy the latest Zodiac robot, again $2,000 !!!Purchased in for $2,000.

I purchased this robot from PoolWerx and right from the start the cable kept tangling. My pool man told me he had seen many Astra robots and they all do the same thing. The cleaning filters are ridiculously designed. The treads perished even following all instruction for care. I paid $2530.00. I would never purchase another Astra again. I have since purchased a Zodia and its great. Light, easy to clean filter system, no tangle cable.
Purchased for $2,530.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and we’re so sorry that your experience did not match your expectations....
Read more Regarding your cable tangling issue, it sometimes happens when the unit is left in the pool for a few cycles, and/or you could have given the unit too much cable in the first place. We also suggest that after a cycle has finished, you should lay the cable straight on the ground and let it dry in the sun. This will allow the cable to forget the kink memory. We hope this helps and if you have any further issues please feel free to reach out to us via live chat support: 9am-5pm Mon to Fri: https://www.astralpool.com.au/service-my-product Regards, Fluidra Case Management Team- 2 reviews
I spent almost $2k on this product in 2015, in the 5 years that i owned it, it has been so many times to the repair shop that I swear that it knows its own way by now. Well this time its not coming out. I have spent almost as much fixing it as I spent buying it and now I have another $800.00 bill. It's badly designed and badly manufactured. Do not buy this cleaner!
Purchased in for $2,000.

My RTX started off working well. After about 6 months, it broke down. I had to take it to the service department in Seven Hills. They repaired it under warranty, but I had it back there no less than 3 times in the next 6 months. On one occasion, I had to wait 6 weeks for parts. On top of that, the cord gets tangled every time when it is working. The filter assembly is poorly designed and the (very) small plastic parts break easily. I have given up on it and am looking for something else.
Purchased in at Poolwerx for $1,800.

Purchased mine through Poolwerx. First repair (internal part dislodged) handled under warranty. Next repair (broken drive belt) cost (from memory) a couple of hundred dollars and current repair (replace failed control box with second hand unit) will also cost $200. Doesn't clean down to 2 microns as indicated; still have to manually clean pool of finer particles. My local Poolwerx store doesn't carry them anymore.
Purchased in at Poolwerx for $1,900.

Bought the RTX model in December 2016.
Very good at cleaning pool including picking up bottom dust and leaves. Easy to clean as well. Only problem after 3 years was the belts needed replacing due to general wear and tear. Cost only $70 and considering its regular use over the past 3 years I was very satisfied.
Purchased in for $1,500.

Bought an RTX cleaner 3 years ago already had motor and pump replaced 12 months ago. The unit has failed again outside warranty. Tried to contact the customer service line which is constantly busy on hold for 30 mins plus only to be fobbed off to a dealer which did not want to know about the unit. For the money you spendon the unit ($2k) it is absolute rubbish with questionable after service support. Parts are expensive to replace, ended up going to a independent dealer and buying a new Maytronics S200 unit. Stay away from this brand!!
Purchased in at Astralpool Australia for $2,000.

This product is appalling. No tangle cord is a myth and lies. The it tangled as soon as it hits the water meaning the use length and far reach areas of the pool don’t clean. I’m into my second astral pool cleaner as well after my non function first was replaced. Stick to Dolphin, I most defiantly will change!

Am on my 3rd RTX pool cleaner and if I could get my money back I would. They continually break down, are not reliable and very inconsistent in cleaning. Was recommended through the pool cleaning service.

This unit is just unreliable and so far mine has broken down three times. The first time it was fixed under warranty and it required an extensive range of parts. The last time the parts list was not as extensive and I had to pay to get it fixed. Now three months later its failed again.
This unit is a money pit and I'm certain much better alternatives are available because its hard to imagine anything less reliable.

Pool pump cost near three thousand dollars and only lasted two years. Was fobbed off by the manufacturer and aquatecniks with total disregard . I ended up buying an ONGA pump for $300 delivered and have been happy since. I would not recommend doing business with either companies as I feel l have been ripped off by both. Absolute rubbish.

Worked great initially however the quality of these products is terrible. My issues are consistent with other owner's feedback Cord tangles WHEN it works. Lasted about 9months. Would never buy this product again. For the price you would expect a longer life. Poor service, sub quality product. Very disappointed.

The control box indicator lights stopped working and it was not possible to tell what settings were selected. It was replaced under warranty but now some two months later the new control box has developed the same problem. I also have the unit set to clean only the bottom of the pool as when set to clean walls as well it frequently breaks the surface and sucks in air. Often times it fails to expel the air and floats around uselessly until the control box senses something is wrong and switches the unit off. I would not buy this product again.

Here's an update and all credit to Astral. The control box was again replaced under warranty some 6 months before the end of the 3 year warranty period. This failed to get the robot going so Astral h...
Read moreave now replaced both drive motors and the propellor drive motor within the robot itself (the 'smarts' are apparently inside the robot propellor drive unit not within the so-called Control unit). So I now have a practically new set up and I am happy to report that the new propellor drive motor is more powerful than the original one which has cured the breaking surface and injesting air problem. Interestingly, the technician who performed the work says Astral have now reduced the warranty period on new machines to 2 years.Questions & Answers

Also, the 2 cartridges (I assume you have the model with the 2 cartridges) are very hard to clean and there is a little plastic box in the cartridge where the dirt will always accumulate behind. Forget it. The whole design of this model was a failure, they abandoned the production after a small time.
