Ethical, problem free, simple
I made the switch from MTAA Super to Australian Ethical around 3 years ago and have been impressed with the simplicity & accessibility of my account, details, investment preferences - everything. It's been an easy, uncomplicated process and a move I'm sincerely glad I made!

Good investment Bad fee structure
I love that this fund has ethical investments - BUT be wary of the fees from this fund. Far higher than most. Also the Exit fee is way too high so make sure you have a look BEFORE you switch.

Great returns and I can sleep at night
I invested in Australian Ethical because I didn't want my money supporting dirty industry or trading a compromised future for my child for wealth growth. What surprised me was just how well my super is now working for me. I was expecting a compromise on my returns for investing ethically but actually they are out doing my employees default fund. Happy on all counts.

Happy investor
I've been an investor in Australian Ethical managed Funds since 2008 for my kids and couldn't be happier. Performance is comparable/better than other funds, and it's good to know my investments aren't killing the planet.

Very satisfied
My previous Super company claimed to invest ethically, yet on further research I was investor in Goldman Sachs, Pepsi Cola etc & they were not prepared to supply info on who the other companies might be. I changed over to Ethical Super & have been very impressed. They are innovative, informative & I have been impressed by the returns. At Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2014, John Hewson spoke, & pointed out that Australian Super Funds were dangerously over invested in the fossil fuel industry, & a risk to Aussies Superannuation investments. Current Stock market scenario seems to be proving his point..

Misconceived ethics
In refusing to countenance support for nuclear energy and uranium mining, this firm is part of the climate problem. Attempts to engage them in re-examination of this issue revealed disturbing ignorance of pertinent data. That's not what I consider 'ethical'.

our assessment of the relevant issues through consideration of additional information and perspectives. We find that in most cases differences of opinion do not arise because of any fundamental disagreement about whether people, animals and the environment are important. Rather we find that people will sometimes strike a different balance between competing interests where those interests come into conflict. In other cases the differences arise because it can be hard to predict the future positive and negative impacts of a particular activity. We agree with you that climate change is a critical issue. Australian Ethical is committed to a clean energy future and we believe emissions must be reduced dramatically and without delay. However, in the case of nuclear energy we don’t invest in the sector for a number of reasons:Yes, that's what you said last time. As I pointed out then, each of those points can be shown to be grossly exaggerated and the viability of renewable energy alternatives is incredibly risky and unpro... Read more

I have super with AE and I'm now considering putting money into one of the AE managed funds. So far I like the approach AE takes. The fees are pretty high though. How can you justify this?

Hi Jimbobaloobop,
It's always nice to hear that one of our Super members is considering one of our Managed Funds as well! We're glad you like our ethical approach to investing - and you would already be aware of our competitive performance returns.
Fees are about many things, including the level of engagement of the fund managers, and a matter of scale. Australian Ethical has a particularly high level of engagement, because of both our ethical screening, and our active investment style. Despite this, since 2013 we’ve more than halved our fees. It’s just one of the ways that as we grow, we’re making sure to share the benefits with our investors. You might also be interested to know that we are one of the best valued ethical investment funds in Australia when you take into account what our product offers. You may also find that other ‘ethical funds’ may not offer a comprehensive ethical screening process, for example only screening certain negative industries, or best of industry.
You may be interested in some of our wholesale funds, which offer the funds at a substantially reduced fee. You can find more information on our wholesale funds here: https://www.australianethical.com.au/managed-funds/fees/.
You can find more on the performance of our managed funds here: https://www.australianethical.com.au/managed-funds/performance-and-returns/
If you want to discuss our investment options, don't hesitate to call us on 1800 021 227.
