I have purchased a 9 cup by mistake as my old one was actually a 6 cup. I am wondering if I could still use it with less water and coffee - or should I get another.

I also saw a comment that how the coffe is packed makes a difference to the coffee what is recommended please?

Hi Henry, I have an Avanti Art Deco 6 cup and all good here. I would suggest that you contact McIvers Tea and Coffee Merchants in Melbourne who sell Avanti and are good people to deal with. You could send them an email, find the address at mcivers.melbourne or phone 03 93298911. As an alternative you could look at the Ilsa Slancio coffee maker which I believe is the same as the Avanti. If you go to espressozone.com or go to caffebianchi.com.au both companies sell Ilsa coffe makers and parts including funnels. You could contact them and ask if the parts in the Ilsa are interchangeable with the Avanti. As a last possible solution you would need to know the dimensions of the Avanti funnel and then see if one of the Bialetti Stainless Steel funnels are the same size and would fit the avanti.Bialetti parts are more readily available than the avanti. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good Luck.

I have a new 13 cup avanti espresso maker and are having problems with it, for instance no matter how low or high the heat the coffee will spit out of the funnel and alway leaves 1/2 of the water in the bottom reservoir regardless of how long I leave it on the heat. All the youtube videos I have watched show the coffee dribbling out of the funnel, unfortunately this is definitely not the case with my coffee maker HELP!

Hi Jenny, I have a 6 cup avanti and initially thought the water left in the bottom reservoir was an issue. However after more research I discovered that the water left over was a deliberate design feature and eliminates the possibility of the avanti boiling dry. You should make sure you fill the bottom chamber to just below the pressure release valve that is on the side of the chamber. Insert the coffee basket and make sure no water appears in the bottom of the basket. If water appears you need to empty some water from the bottom chamber. Fill the coffee basket with the desired amount of ground coffee attach the top of the pot and set on the stove. I always put hot tap water ( we are on tank water so chemical additives are not an issue ) in the bottom chamber as it is best not to let the coffee sit too long before brewing starts. When the pot starts to gurgle, bubble, make noises then the coffee is ready. You do not need to continue brewing, boiling etc after the gurgling bubbling etc starts. Do not get concerned about left over water it is designed to have left over water. Once you have a full pot made you should pour out the coffee into a container that you can put on some scales to see the weight to make sure you are getting the 13 cups. One gram of weight is the same as one ml of water. Hope this is of some help.

Cheers TerryB

Hi Rosemarie, You may find what you need at coffeecompany.com.au They have a Brass Steel Safety Valve for $4.50. This is a universal valve and should fit the avanti however I would suggest a quick phone call to confirm before purchasing. Hope this helps.

Using an Avanti and Bialetti stainless steel coffee percolator on an induction cooktop. Tried various heat settings and coffee tastes burnt/bitter. Used same coffee and percolator on gas tasted fine. How can I achieve same taste from my induction cooktop?

I have used the Avanti Art Deco 6 cup on an electric ceramic stovetop but not an induction. Worked fine on the electric ceramic with medium heat and hot water from the tap.In respect to the induction I would suggest a low heat as the induction is quick to heat and perhaps it is heating to a boil too quickly. To compensate for a low heat setting I would go for HOT water from the tap to compensate. I guess it is trial and error as in Low Heat but HOT tap Water or Medium/ High Heat with room temp tap water or somewhere in between. Having said all that Gas is the best when it comes to heat control. Hope this helps. Terry Butwell

I can only suggest using a lower setting and removing the pot before it boils dry - mine works fine on induction

Why does coffee from my Avanti stainless steel espresso maker have a strong metallic taste? Over several years I’ve tried different brands of coffees & tried cleaning it in different ways (& I often boil plain water through it, without any coffee, as a way of cleaning it). It’s not a burnt taste – I’ve never let it boil dry, and after I've made and drank the coffee, I've always found some water is still in the bottom section. I thought when I upgraded from a cheap aluminium version of this Avanti product (definitely not cheap!) the coffee would be much better in taste & quality! I'm not writing this just to complain or vent, I seriously want to know the answer, find out if others also have this problem, if there is a solution, & warn others if there is no solution! I'm not even particularly fussy about coffee in general usually, as long as it's strong (plenty of caffeine kick), but this metallic taste is much too overwhelmingly obvious & horrible to be able to ignore!

Try buying organic expresso coffee beans...no bitterness, burnt or metallic taste...just a smooth ride!

I worked out that the taste is much improved (without changing the type or brand of coffee I use) when I put the heat on my gas stove at the lowest possible setting, rather than trying to boil the water faster on a higher heat.
P.S. It would be good if the coffee maker came with instructions in the box. It seems strangely negligent that it doesn't.

Just been given a 2 cup? Avanti coffee maker, no instructions? How do you use it? No idea ? Have only had large electric coffee machines. What is the small round filter like cap on top part of machine for? Do I put water in bottom part, does the coffee come up to the top part when it boils?

The best thing to do is to view a utube demonstration of the method. There are lots available and I found them useful when I first was given mine. One thing no one mentions though, is that you musn't fill the basket to the rim with coffee or tamp it down as you would do with your other coffee machine. The coffee should be loose in the basket as it has to expand when the water rises through it. If it's too full, you will get weak coffee. Good luck, I think it makes great coffee.

Turn yr stove down. You should get used to the popping noise when the reservoir is filling up and when it stops you need to take off the stove .

I have a new 10 cup Avanti coffee maker. The brew seems very weak, in spite of using maximum grounds. Upon investigation, the filter cap appears to be coming loose and is bending. I'm wondering if I have done something incorrectly?

The coffee should be packed loosely and not quite fill the holder. The coffee will expand when the water passes through it. I don't know if you have used too much coffee and that's caused your problem.

I eventually found a source of replacement gaskets at Quattro Formaggi Deli in Chatswood Chase in Sydney. They do not keep spares for specific models, just a big box of assorted sizes. After a bit of trial and error we found one that fitted and my Avanti is back in business.

Is anyone else upset to find that the grounds holder is Aluminium?... It's a very unhealthy metal when heated.

They don't mention anything about Aluminium in the specifications, only 18/10 stainless steel.

hi Diana,
mine is stainless (just not shiny) like the pot itself and you could mistake it for aluminium. mine is also magnetic-try a fridge magnet on yours, if it sticks it definitely is not aluminium.

please let us know what you find

Hi Albert,
Wow, great tip on the magnet. I don't have the best magnet but noted a small amount of resistance - same on the S/S pot.
I'm actually very relieved, its a gorgeous design but I was contemplating ditching it.......
Thanks for your help, now I can go back to thoroughly enjoying my morning coffee !!

You could try replacing the rubber band around the filter. I haven't had the problem, so I'm only guessing that that might help. I use a regular grind in the stovetop coffee maker and it works well.

I noticed that one reviewer has commented that this item does not work on induction. I was surprised to read this because the Alessi product that is also made from 18/10 stainless is advertised as being suitable for induction. Does anyone else have any experience re this?

I use mine on an induction cooktop, but I use a 'diffuser' that sits between the cooktop and the pot. This is because the footprint of the 4 cup version is too small for my cooktop to register, even on the smallest cooktop circle. 6 cup version works fine without the diffuser. I'm not sure however if that's the case with all induction cookers.

I have the 10-cup and it works on my induction cooktop. A magnet sticks to it, and I purchased from David Jones and they called Avanti for me from the store before I purchased as they weren't sure if it worked on induction and the answer was that, yes, it does. And it does! :)

Last time I bought a replacement rubber ring for a coffee maker was in a coffee shop in Lismore, NSW, in the year 2000. Seeing as I was able to buy one in a country town back then, I've assumed it would be even easier to find one in a city or online!
