Should know the difference between Folate and Folic acid!
The name of the product says folate but the ingredients says folic acid! No good! There is a big difference in the way it is absorbed. in fact this is dangerous for people with MTHFR. Terrible should be removed from the shelves for mislabeling. Shame on you blackmores you should know more about supplements than this.

Natural Folate
The difference between natural folate and synthetic folic acid? Recent studies that show alarm bells about the negative effects of folic acid, and companies who don't know the difference and call it one or the other when it is not.
Will Blackmores now use only genuine natural folate in all its products?
Folic Acid Side Effects
Folic acid is a synthetic B vitamin found in supplements and fortified foods. Curiously, mainstream media and government agencies use the term synonymously with folate, the natural form of multiple B vitamins comm...Read more
only referred to as “vitamin B9.” This has led the entire nation to believe that folic acid is a naturally occurring vitamin (which it isn’t), and that it’s healthy to supplement with (which it isn’t). Unlike natural folates (which are directly metabolized by the small intestines), folic acid requires the assistance of a specific enzyme named “dihydrofolate reductase”, which is relatively rare in the body.

Not recommended
I have gotten quite used to taking other vitamins/medication in a capsule, caplet or tabsule type format that I was really surprised to find that these are the old powdery tablet type. This makes them extremely difficult to swallow. They get stuck in your mouth or throat more often than not, which is very unpleasant. I definitely do not recommend these for anyone who has difficulty swallowing tablets, and don't even try to take them when your have a cold or flu or any type of throat inflammation! I will definitely try another brand next time.

Folic acid not folate
I agree with MM below who wrote she was in a hurry and picked up Blackmores FOLATE but subsequently discovered it is act silly folic acid. I did the same. After taking it for two days I checked the label and it says Folic Acid. My doctor told me take folate not folic acid as the former is natural and the latter synthetic and I have some sort of gene mutation which means she would like me to take the natural form so as not to harm my baby. I bought two bottles too that I now have to throw out. My fault for not checking the super small print but still annoying that the big letters on the front say FOLATE.

It's NOT Folate
I picked it up in a hurry without checking the ingredients, silly me. Why does it have folate on the label when it is actually folic acid? Two very different things. Deceiving.

Excellent
I bought this as it is a trusted brand, my last pregnancy was a "surprise" so i didn't get the recommended 4 week prior to conception doses of folic acid, so this time around we planned a little better and took the supplement and conceived after 5 weeks of trying. Will go onto use Blackmores preg and breastfeeding tabs.
Not too expensive, a convenient dose of Folic acid that most women can't achieve in their day to day diet
nothing, does its job of preparing you for carrying a new life (well, upping your folate levels anyway!)

Excellent
I used this supplement before pregnancy as advised by the doctor and then went to the Blackmores multivitamin once pregnant (as advised by doctor) which contains folate so this supplement is no longer required.
Supplement for folate only. Trusted brand, and yes the pretty pink packaging of blackmores might suck you in. Avaialble at supermarkets.
you probably wont use the whole pack as you end up switching to the pregnancy vitamin, but can't be helped, but you end up wasting most of the bottle. There are cheaper brands out there but I used only blackmores products whilst I was pregnant.

Excellent
Perfect to take when trying to conceive a baby and for the first trimester, not that much more than the generic or other brands. It's great peace of mind to take a quality brand supplement
Provides a good level of folate and a quality trustworthy brand, pink bottle is nice

t. Its 100 microgramme less in a tablet than the Blackmores but its pointless me taking more FA than I need because too much is not good for you. Ive benefited way too much on a Berocca a day so Ive decided not to take the Blackmores tablet.
