Hi we have the 17e system now approx 15 years old, these past 2 weeks it has not ignited at times when drawing hot water, i have turned the power off, plus gas & water then on again and it make a buzz and all is well for a while the it goes again. I have pulled the cover of an noticed a earth leakage device located in the bottom left hand corner of the unit ? there are 2 buttons on this device are they re-set buttons??? as i am surmising that perhaps i am getting some earth leakage and the unit maybe cutting out, it seems to start again after i have pushed these buttons.

No that’s just if it floods so you don’t die.
Replace the whole unit with a non bosche product. It’s the control panel I believe and I’ll save you 500 bucks to call a plumber by telling you get a new one as he will. They’re just crap and all expiring about this year or last or next. Rinnai builders models look good value

You can buy spare parts of me inlc new flame rod and ignition plug if u want

Definately appears to be the earth leakage unit is defunct is it viable to replace this part or best to consider buying a new unit considering its at least 13 to 15 years old

I was doing so, till it stopped working! The bottle is still half full and the pressure seems fine, will be pulling it apart and checking for blockages this weekend.

We have the Highflow 17e Natural Gas hot water system.
Over the past year or so it has been shutting off - ie in the middle of a shower. We have had service people around and they cannot figure out the issue. I have also spoken to one or two who specialise in these systems - also no idea. Basically they tell us that it would be cheaper and easier (for them more likely!) to just replace the whole system.
It works fine for most of the time - and problem free for months on end. Then suddenly - as is the case now (May 2020) - it shuts off just about every shower; and often several times.
What we are doing is switching the mains power off for a few seconds; then on again and it seems to 'reboot' the control system - or whatever!
We do not have the control unit for this system.
It is a constant annoyance. Does anyone know about this issue - what is actually wrong. Is there a fix??
Typically at this time - when we are homebound, jobless, no money, winter approaching - these things happen.
Its probably 7-8 years old.

Clean the inlet filter regularly especially after rainfall if you have water tanks clean the mesh filter with a toothbrush and detergent flush the valve.
Check your Davey pump pressure regularly too it will be the problem if not the other two. The hws unit needs a bit more pressure than the pump runs at min setting. Weather fluctuations affect it at times
Thus usually all happens at once ..
Check your gas supply isn’t near empty also.

Not a plumber, just been dealing with the same thing as everybody enough that I’m almost a specialist now

Thanks for the reply.
We are running on natural gas mains supply; and mains water.
Problem is still occurring.
Definitely a fault with the electronic system.
Pretty much resigned ourselves to replace with a Rinnai system.

Electronic Highflow 17e

Hello

I have a Bosch Highflow 17e.

Recently I have noticed that the red light on the remote controller thermostat unit is turning on and off while I am using the hot water (e.g. having a shower and the red light remains mostly on, moreso flashes of the red light going off).

I have also noticed temperature fluctuations more often duirng showers.

Because the weather has been hot in Adelaide I have recently reduced the temperate setting on the remote controller thermostat from about 41 to 37.

This morning, however, the red light was disappearing more often. It eventually came back on.

Do you have any suggestions?

Kind regards

Tony

I’m renting a house with one of these units. I’ve never had gas hot water before and I knew it had its problems, as my daughter has been on gas hot water for years. This is ridiculous, we get hot water but trying to adjust it is unreal. You get it right and then it totally cuts out and no hot water at all. Turn off the water and start all over again as there is no hope of trying to remix it most of the time. The amount of water that’s going down the drain is unreal. Sorely disappointed. Before I contact the real estate I’d like to know can this problem be fixed or am I stuck with this reoccurring problem.

We have exactly the same problem. Reading the other reviews it appears this is a common problem. Also reading the reviews on here, don’t expect an answer but instead to be told to ring their customer service number where they will then recommend a service agent with gas plumbers having a general minimum charge of $300. Either way your stuffed!

Thanks, I’ll put it to the real estate and ask if the landlord is willing to have it looked at.

Bosch Hot Water & Heating
Robert B.Bosch Hot Water & Heating

Hi Julie, the inlet water filter is located on the underside of the unit on the cold water inlet. Then you'll need to close the water supply valve, open a hot water outlet to release pressure, Take the water drain valve and water filter out of the inlet and clean with a brush under running water. Once done, replace this and close the drain plugs. Close all hot water fixtures and open the water supply valve and check that the water doesn't leak.

If you need further assistance, please get in contact with us at 1300 30 70 37 any time between 7:30AM and 6PM (AEDT) on a weekday.

Hi Lory, thank you for your question. Could you please clarify which controller it is that you have so that we can better assist you? The model number should be listed on the controller itself and will begin with YPR.

Lory

No problem it's YPRM66XB

Bosch Hot Water & Heating
Robert B.Bosch Hot Water & Heating

The volume setting on the controller is linked to the Bath Fill Alarm. Clicking this button activates the water fill alarm and sets the volume for the bath fill alarm.

To set the Bath Alarm Volume, turn on the controller, press the Volume button and adjust the water volume using the Up & Down arrows. Then turn on the hot water tap and the water heater will sound an alarm when the selected volume has been delivered so you know when to turn off the tap. To switch the alarm off, you then press the Volume button again.

I have a rental unit that had a Bosch instant flow hot water service. In June 2014, it was playing up and the plumbing company called to inspect it said that it was irrepairable, and replaced it with a Bosch 17e unit.
Just 5 years later this unit is intermittently cutting out. The same plumbing company were again called, and claim that the "electronics" were "playing up". Claimed that it would be "too costly to repair".
Am I just very unlucky? Or is my professionally advice perhaps a little dodgy?

Hi Alan, we're sorry to hear about the difficulties that you are experiencing with your unit. If your unit is struggling to light, you may need to get the unit serviced which we recommend at intervals not exceeding 2 years. Please contact with us at 1300 30 70 37 any time between 7:30AM to 6PM (AEST) on a weekday, and we will assist you with getting in touch with an approved Bosch service agent.

Hi again. No, nothing like struggling to light. Water heats, but several minutes into a shower it runs cold - "intermittently cutting out". Is this normal after 5 years? Some other reviews have hinted at a similar problem. Not sure if from new or after some time.
Can an approved Bosch service agent promise to fix this relatively new unit for a reasonable price? I've already paid over $100 to a company who says they can't. They want over $1,000 to sell me a new Bosch unit! Do I really need to replace a 2012 model unit so soon?

So, no answer to this means what? I should be buying a different brand of HWS? Very disappointing!

Hi, we recently bought a house with a Bosch hHghflow 17e unit which works well.
The irritating thing is, every time after using hot water, it starts beeping for a few seconds in a row, that it stops. we dont know if this some kind of alarm or what it is meant to be? I hope you can help!
Thank you very muchFrank

Bosch Hot Water & Heating
Robert B.Bosch Hot Water & Heating

Hi Frank, thank you for your question, we're sorry to hear that you are experiencing irritation from the beeping of the unit. The beeping noise indications that the unit is operating properly, and results from a design that moves the water valve into set position for next usage and ensures that the water temperature is stable. Unfortunately the beeping is a part of the design. We appreciate your feedback and will take this into consideration.

Hi I have a 17e in a remote location in Tasmania. The water is cold 5 deg
I took the unit out of the box put it on the wall put gas and water into it !! It works great but uses heaps a gas 2 people in the shack going through 9kg bottle a week?
Is this normal?

1 answer
Bosch Hot Water & Heating
Robert B.Bosch Hot Water & Heating

Hi George, thanks for your question. Your gas usage will depend on your hot water usage though we do recommend investing in a larger 45kg bottle. A 45kg LPG bottle is the typical size for home usage and will contain about 2268mj of energy. A smaller bottle such as the 9kg one will be considerably less at one fifth of the 45kg bottle. This specific hot water unit will consume about 135mj/hour. Elgas has a fantastic blog post based on your question: https://www.elgas.com.au/blog/375-how-long-do-45kg-gas-bottles-last. It explores the usage of a 45kg LPG bottle but based on their numbers, a comparable unit (16L/min 124MJ) using a 9kg bottle, will last you 10.4 days if you are using it for 20mins/day (and 7 days if you are using hot water for 30 mins/day). Again, we strongly recommend investing in a 45kg bottle due to extra convenience and comfort. If you have any follow-up questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at 1300 30 70 37 . We're available from 7:30am to 6:00pm (AEST) Monday to Friday.
