Water leak
I bought my Bosch 26E NG in May 2012 and it has worked well until now when it recently sprung a leak in the copper pipe on the top LHS. A plumber tried lagging the pipe but it is still leaking. He thinks it could be fixed through welding but is concerned at the proximity of the water leak to the electrics. Is this fixable?
Purchased in May 2021 for A$963.63.

Great system
Hi. Excellent system. Mist people complain about the performance of this system. I had problems with water not hot enough or cutting out frequently. I called my plumber and he found that the pipe going into the system was too small (15mm). So when i turned on my gas cooktop or ducted gas heating, it would cut out the hot water system. Requires minimum of 20mm to operate correctly. All i can say to those people complaining is, get your plumber to check the pipework going into the hot water system and any other gas appliance you have. You may have same problem as I did.

Terrible! Get a Rinnai instead!
Ever since installation a couple of months ago, this unit has not been dependable. Water + gas available but unit does not fire up as it should. I was told it's a software issue... I run a guesthouse and I can't have an unit I can't depend on.
I have insisted to my plumber that I want this unit OUT and a Rinnai IN. My previous unit lasted for 15 years before needing to be replaced!

Turns off in winter when the temperature outside is low
It worked good the first couple of years and just before the expiry of the warranty it started turning off and the water wouldn't flow at all. We called Bosch and they said to call the plumber and do a maintenance. We did a maintenance in autumn but when winter came it stopped working again, this time the water running but no hot water at all. It can start again after turning on and off for 10 times but Leaving the children by themselves in the shower to run outside in the rain to switch it off and on again is a big risk. Not happy at all with ...Read more
this system. It was annoying that Bosch didn't care and told us to call our plumber, I think there is a problem with this hot water system and they need to offer replacement with different model. It was still under warranty and I think when we bought it there was mentioned that there is a 10 year warranty on some parts, what a joke.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Bosch Hot Water 26 Continuous Flow unit.

Unreliable
I purchased Bosch for its name for reliability and not by price and when I first installed this product it ran without any issues for about 14 months, then it would shut down and not supply water hot or cold. I found pressing the resett button inside it would function again for anywhere between 1 to 3 months. Then it started to fail on a more frequent basis untill finally it would not reset at all. With nothing to lose I disconnected it from the mains, unplugged all the connectors one by one and sprayed with contact cleaner (not normal CRC but...Read more
CRC Lectraclean 2018) and worked them in and out to clean them before plugging them back together. I reconnected the power pressed reset and the unit functioned again without fault for about 6 months, when it failed again, at this point I repeated the proceedure and we are at month 3 without a failure. The problem seems to be worse in the winter months so it looks like poor design in the plug and socket department. It is apparently designed to operate outside and my unit is in a protected corner of the house.1 comment
Update
Bosch water died again today so it made it 3 1/2 months worked after reset. but it's a drag, hey Bosch how about a service bulletin or a schematic then I could fix it properly

Absolutely terrible product
Only moved into our house in March and we have had nothing but endless problems with hot water cutting in and out and also when swapping the gas bottles. Followed the manufacturers instructions by turning the water and gas off and on numerous times, with no luck. How Bosch ever got these products past quality control is beyond me! I'm off to purchase a Rinaii!

Failed just outside of warranty
The Bosch 26e replaced a faithful 20-year-old electric Vulcan freeloader. This hot water service gets very little use as it's basically used to run a shower once a day. The Bosch 26e has had the occasional hiccup from the word go. I was always able to reset it and get it going again. However this time the Bosch 26e continues to run hot and cold. It cuts in then cuts out. No matter how many times I reset it. Bosch also recommends that the unit get serviced at least every 2 years which adds to further expense (plumbers are very expensive). As thi...Read more
s unit is just over three years old and appears to be an ongoing fault not with just myself but other customers as well, Bosch should have recalled this product. Instead you are directed to call a plumber and pay the cost. Hot water services are something that should last at least 10 years not 3. In my opinion this product is not fit for the purpose it was designed for. As this is a rather expensive product to replace I'm really disappointed. I suggest buyer beware!!Similar opinion? Good so far will update in a year
New house with small cylinder cupboard and insufficient roof space so we opted for gas. Whole installation cost about 20 percent more than a 180l cylinder. Hooked up to mains pressure which ours is particularly high pressure for some reason. So far so good I don't have any electronic temperature control units and I get consistent hot water without fluctuations even when water is used at another source. Still have to figure out running costs and I have a suspicion it will be slightly higher than electric but I will update later. Did I mention it...Read more

Takes 30 plus seconds to become hot!
I'm not sure what the issue is but it takes 30 plus seconds from when the tap is turned on for the water to become hot. is there something simple that can be tried to rectify this? Could this have something to do with installation? This is a new built extension for Kitchen and bathrooms.

Never again...
Same problem as most people here; Unit gets around 6-7 years old and starts cutting out intermittently and controller is flashing.
Bosch's authorised service agent WHO CHARGES LIKE A WOUNDED BULL come out and basically tell me it's the board and a new one is worth half the price of a new unit (way to go), then charges me $250 for the privilege.
Now I get to buy a whole new unit <6.5 years after brand new install as well as pay the service agent who achieved nothing.
I won't be buying again.

Really happy so far!
We purchased the Bosch 26e 50 degrees model when Bosch offered the cash back deal, we decided on the 50 degree model as we have a young child and were concerned about scalding when the little tiger plays with the taps. We also have Bosch water heating in our property in the UK and their reliability is second to none so had no hesitation in purchasing it. I am really not sure why it has such negative reviews, we have had absolutely no issues with it. Ours was fitted very close to the bathroom so we get decent and constant hot water within second...Read more
s. It's a little slow to get to the kitchen but the plumber set this expectation before installation so no complaints there. We still get great hot water in the shower even when the wife is doing the washing up. The only real regret I have is not purchasing the 60 degree Celsius model with the bathroom controller. Whilst 50 degrees is great for the bathroom, it is not really hot enough to remove stubborn grease from pots and pans. Still, we are very happy with our purchase and would not hesitate to recommend it. Just ensure you get a decent, honest plumber to fit it as the tap water flow rate plays a massive part in ensuring constant hot water.1 comment

Too cold or too hot. No perfect showers
Got a 26e in a 2 yr old house. When trying to get some warm water, you will need to turn the tap of the sink or shower to fully hot then slowly work your way towards warm. Once at warm, it will stay for a few seconds then disappear. The last own did not rectify this issue and thus it is out of warranty. Got a plumber to have a look. He says the shower flow rate triggers the hot water. He removed the flow resisting mechanism in the shower head. The water came out faster and we were able to get warm water on warm setting for a day, then the old p...Read more
roblem came back. This is the first time we've used a gas system so we thought maybe this is just the way it is. Didn't make sense to use how we can get hot water and not warm and figured it has nothing to do with the flow rate. Maybe its just the way the gas systems are. A few years later, we have a baby. This issue wasn't too bad in the beginning as we just bathed her in a tub so it was not too hard to mix hot and cold to get that perfect temp. The issue is now that shes older and able to stand and be showered, the water temp is too hot or too cold. A friend of mine had the same system and had the same issues. He told me he contacted Bosch who gave him instructions to rectify this issue. I tried to call Bosch myself explaining my situation. Got a rude customer service lady from the Philippines and basically said sorry out of warranty, nothing she can do about it. Need to get a Bosch technician to service the system. The technicians costs $125 for the first 15 mins! $25 thereafter. It does include labour and parts but it does not guarantee it will be fixed. They won't even come to check if it can be fixed first! Pretty frustrated and annoyed with this unit. Definitely won't be recommending Bosch to anyone.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hot & cold water in showers
i have a bosch 26 which performs extremely well, I suggest you remove your water savers that located in your shower heads, they can be removed with a small flat blade screw driver. This is a common problem with all instantaneous hot water heaters as they are all designed to work at certain flow rates

Hot & Cold
Very impressed with the size and performance of my new 26e Highflow, my old Bosch Water Wizard 780 performing for 20 years plus with one part replace. It finally ended dramatically with high pressure leak and hissing, a 3 inch split where the pipe is attached to the heat exchanger. Hence my allegiance to Bosch replacing it the 26e. From 17 to 26 litres is like upgrading your 4 cylinder car to a V6. My next step is to install temperature controllers.
Now on the cold side of the experience. After investigating the web on what units were availa...Read more
ble, I contacted a major Energy provider for a replacement. It was a Saturday so any installation would be on the Monday. After settling on the 26e, I was told a site inspection would need to be done and it could cost up to $2000. I answered questions regarding distance from meter (3M tick), gas pipe diameter (25mm tick), outdoor power point (tick). I turned of gas and water at the unit and Meters. Removed the old heater, painted the wall, so all was ready for the "installer". He turned up proceeded to install the new unit, I gave him a new ball cock (had one) for the water as the old one was not shutting off completely, I did this only after he said it would $60 extra. Straight forward install, gas line first (straight line), water line required 2 elbows soldered and hot out pipe bent up to outlet. Power, just plugged it in. Very neat job, he was reluctant to talk during the hour on the job, understandable. The invoice was produced with just a final total of $1940 after my $60 discount voucher. Now I was happy to be able have a hot shower after 2 days. As I put my trust in this Major company that I have used for over 40 years for Gas and Electricity that they would be fair in their pricing. But I started to wonder how much the hot water unit actually cost. Check the web it is around $900, so $1100 for one hour of work, with $60 off. Not happy I rang the provider, explained the above, they advised the minimum charge is $1400 and would investigate. They rang back and advise the installer reduced my master card charge down to $1650, still over the top. That is still $650 for an hour of effort and I had uninstalled the old unit. I asked what the installer explanation was, but was fobbed off with "hand free call, noisy, in a hurry". I resigned myself to the fact I should have demanded the installer give me a quote like he was suppose to do. So happy with the product and wrote this for you in the process of buying to be diligent.6 comments

Hot water cuts in and out
We moved into a house with a Bosch 26e Highflow system earlier this year and noticed that during a shower, the hot water cuts in and out constantly. We have two bathrooms and it was happening in both showers. I was extremely worried as having a reliable and efficient shower is very important to my daily well-being. During the winter, it didn't happen to me as I have super hot showers when it's cold but as the weather has warmed up again and I'm using less hot water, it's started happening again. ot on full blast, little bit of cold, hot on a half turn, more cold etc. and nothing works. I do not need to be standing in the shower dripping wet turning taps on and off for ten minutes while I'm trying to get ready for work or alternatively boiling and freezing as the water struggles to maintain temperature. Is there a quick fix for this issue? I don't know when the heating unit was installed and I doubt it's still under warranty. Excellent
Excellent Heater, consistent hot water supply, looks compact and sharp. However, this unit will not work in a blackout as opposed to hydros. The unit is also compatible with temperature control panel, however I did not install that. When other people use hot water at the same time, there is fluctuation and drop in pressure however.

Does not meet customer expectation
We have just installed a new Bosch 26e hot water unit and we are not happy with it's performance. The shower running cold after a few minutes is a big problem. I do not have a water saver shower rose and the unit cuts out after 2-3 minutes. You turn on the hot tap...wait a few minutes and the water comes out hot. After a few minutes of running or if you adjust the cold of hot slightly the unit cut out and goes into "cool down" mode. In the meantime you stand in a cold shower and wait for it to come back on again. I hear a lot about shower he...Read more
ad etc causing the problem. Yes, it could be that the unit does not function with a water saving head.....but why doesn't it? I think it is bad design and a fault in the software that controls the unit. It's detects a slight flow in hot water and it goes into panic mode ... shut down and cool down and then come back on...un-acceptable. There are many complains on this problem but it would seem that Bosch is not taking this problem seriously. The heater is not managing the heat correctly. The burner comes on too strong when you first open the tap then it overheats. The controller detect "overheat" and shuts down the unit (for about 5 minutes). I'm seriously thinking about ripping out the unit and returning it to Bosch. When it works well....it heats water! The unit is "temperamental" and does not meet the customer's need2 comments

the temperature more and your shower will never turn cold! The continuous water heater works but is temperamental... your plumbing has to be a certain standard, you must not use water saving device in your shower rose (a certain flow is required to turn the heater on)... also be prepared for a hefty bill if the unit should need a service or parts etc. The "computer" that runs this type of unit is expensive and not all hot water service guys can work on it! If you have no space for a storage tank, then you have no choice and you have to accept a compromise. Some people learn after a while how to work with this heater. You have to open the tap a certain amount and you should not adjust the hot down whilst you are showering... It is rather a pain using the hot water in the kitchen if you are constantly turning the hot water on and off. When you turn off the hot water, the unit goes into "cool down mode" and you have wait a few minutes before the unit is ready to heat again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
