Where is the serial number and batch code located?

I had the same problem, i emailed the support and finally got it. The label/sticker is kind of under the product, you have to lift the coffee maker and look underneath. The batch code number is next to the PDC on the label and you need a flash light to see the heat imprinted code. With the serial, you can use the same code as the batch. Hope this helps.

I have had my machine for about 5 years now and I have been having issues with my BES870XL not keeping the shot volume program. I followed the programming via the manual and have also reset the machine and yet it pours more water than was set. Is there a known issue that a solution was found for this problem?

amount of water that pours out depends on how much coffee is used

if you do not grind the coffee fine enough, the resistance created by the coffee in the portafilter will be too minimal, and too much water will pass through......

Thanks for your replies but these are not issues related to my problem I have been using the same coffee. Same grind etc now all of a sudden the machine is not holding its shot volume no matter what. I have maintained/cleaned the machine according to the manufacturers specs in the booklet yet it now does not hold the programming for the amount of water pours as it originally did when I set it up. But thanks for trying to help.

I have just bought my BES870 - it cuts out as soon as it gains pressure. Is it just a faulty machine?

What do you mean when you say it cuts out? It sounds like a fault. The machines are set to go into sleep mode when powered up and not used. On some machines you can set this yourself, I am unsure whether your model has an adjustment. It seems like it just goes straight into slaap mode. Maybe there is a temp or pressure sensor that is cactus?

My Barista Express 2 shot button will start a cycle that takes twice as long as normal and produces half the expresso. Everything else functions normally, including the 1 shot button. Why is this?

Should my cleaning disk have a hole in the middle? Replacements seem to have it and Im hearing from people it needs the hole to let the steam out and mine doesnt have a hole and think it may be a manufacture defect.

My machine pump is running but coffee will not come out. Either blocked or not enough pressure?

A few years of using this machine, but never seen it block. What's the pressure gauge showing? If it goes high, you either have too much grind in the group handle, or you've tapped it down way too hard. Try with less amount of coffee and also try to see if finer / more coarse makes it any better.

I've noticed that using old beans (or many grocery bought ones) would require 2 cycles of extraction to work. First extraction usually won't work then the 2nd would (albeit producing bad coffee).

Try running the machine without any beans and see if water comes out. If so, then try using less grind first (like use single grind quantity but press double cup extraction). The pressure should be low and watery coffee would come out... If that's the case, then you might just be using too much coffee, tamped too much, too fine of grind, or combination of those.

Hi my breville express no longer seems to stop automatically and dumps heaps even on the loosest setting. I have been using manually to get around it. Any idea why this is happening?

Is this when grinding coffee or pouring a shot?

Occasionally my BES870 plays up (doesn't stop pouring a shot or every second shot stuffs up) and I find a clean and scale tends to 'reset' something and then it works fine.

My clean/descale light will not go out. I have followed the clean instructions and the descale instructions 4 times each over the last week, but nothing makes the light go out! This is my third machine, so I am a familiar owner, so I am starting to think it is a hard fault. Any suggestions?

This answer might be controversial. I have never used the clean, descale process. My machine is coming up 7 years and does 4+ cups a day. I change the water every day because it is a potential health hazard, (it stays warm for many hours). I alway flush the head befor setting the filter basket onto the group, I clean the grounds tray and clean and flush steam wand with each use. Every internal water passage is sealed and carries water and steam only. In this model, there is not much plumbing wise to go wrong.

Just bought this machine today. Set it up, looking forward to great coffee. Followed instructions to prepare machine (soaked and washed filter and parts; dried basket well). I turned on the machine, ground and filled the coffee basket for a double shot. Tamped it down and locked it into the machine. The pressure gauge never rose, so when the lights came on indicating it was ready, I tried it anyway. It ran for maybe 10 seconds than stopped. Water leaked all over my counter, down the cabinets, onto the floor. I shut it down and took off the water basket to make sure the filter was properly seated, then locked down the water container and tried again. Same thing happened. After cleaning up the mess for the second time, I emptied out the water and started packing up the pieces to return the machine. Any ideas on anything I might be doing wrong? Or is this just a faulty machine?

Can I ask how you went with this? Did you get an exchange?

Returned and bought a different, smaller, cheaper machine -- a pump-driven Delonghi -- which works well. Doesn't grind beans but makes great espresso drinks and takes far less room on the counter.

Give Breville a call, alternatively, take the washer you have to Bunnings and see if you can get the same size in nylon or perhaps Spotlight may have a similar material and you can replicate. Good luck.

Our BES870 is only 18 months old (6 months out of warranty) When we turn on the steam wand the steam is coming out of the the coffee extraction/group head area. We have emailed Breville who gave us names of businesses to fix it, however we live in rural qld and the closest place was 8 hours away so any tips or tricks to try and fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Guage not working properly. Any help?

G'Day Greg1 …. if you are talking about the pressure gauge on the machine, you need to vary the grind size and/or amount using the two controls for these parameters. There is a quick guide with the machine that outlines how to achieve this. It can be very frustrating. I suggest that once you find a brand of beans that you like, you stick to that brand … and try to keep a consistent level of beans in the grinders chute ... as even changing these will throw out the calibration.

Please help! I have no jam and no blinking lights, but the button for automatic or manual grind (down below) does nothing - I've had this about 5 months and never had one issue. This all started today. I tried to push it in with my finger and occasionally it will grind but then I can't get it to do it again. It's like its a bad connection behind the button - I live and purchased this in Mexico from Liverpool (a department store). Please help!
