Breville used to the the premium bread maker Manufacturer
This is our second Breville bread maker, the first being a BBM400 on which the baking element failed after being used after being in the cupboard a year or two. We were able to mix and knead the dough but had to remove it to bake in the gas oven as when the baking cycle started the BBM400 blew the switchboard breaker.
The new BBM 800 is week old and has baked 3 good loaves using the Lauke Premixes. The paddle has been extremely difficult to remove as the bread mix residue sets rock hard, cementing the paddle socket to the pan spindle.

the end we resorted to soaking overnight in water in while the pan stood upright. We thoroughly cleaned the paddle an lightly coated the assembly in olive oil before making the next loaf with our own mix. When the loaf was removed at the end of the cycle the paddle was embedded in and baked into the base of the loaf. A paddle that is either jammed on to the point where it's not easily removed, or falls off half way through the mixing process, is not fit for purpose. This is a design fault if ever I saw one. The Breville BMM800 going back for replacement or a refund.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent product
Our first one decided to play up, but only after several years and a LOT of use. Checked out all the others but this is still the best one on the market as far as we are concerned. We do find that spraying the pan with spray oil helps to stop any bits sticking to the sides and leaving the main loaf.

Collapsible paddle
I too have had problems with the collapsible paddle seizing up. My solution is to boil the paddle for 10 minutes with 1 tbsp of white vinegar and 1 tsp of bicarb and water just to cover. I use this machine at least 3 times a week and not had any other problems.

12 months old, barely used in those 12 months, and it totally stopped working
Bought it to replace a previous Breville Breadmaker that gave us years of good use. Bought this as it looked like the old model with just a new casing, Had it for 12 months and made less than a dozen loaves and it's totally stopped working. No lights, no nothing, Dead as a doorknob. Would not buy another Breville. Tried but can't get through to Breville

reliable and does the job well
We purchased this machine a few years ago now (in blind faith really) to replace a previous breville machine we had for over 10 years. It's used at least weekly for bread. retractable paddle does require some intricate cleaning at times but it does usually get through about a dozen loafs before you have to pull it completely apart for cleaning, you can use the non retractable paddle if it's a problem. it roasts coffee beans well and have used for pizza/scone dough as well. Can't comment on Jam function as we've only tried once which was fine. H...Read more
aven't had any issue to comment on customer support, we did request a second tin as our previous bread maker wore the tin out after 5 or so years but we haven't had to use it yet, from memory it was shipped within about a fortnight with no issues.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

So far very happy with my breadmaker - sharing my first custom receipe
This breadmaker is a replacement for the old breadmaker (Ultimate Baker's Oven Model BB420) which I had for about 10 years, baking at least one loaf every week. What I like about the new Custom Loaf Pro BB800 is the satin finish and the lid with a handle. So much better than the old style. It also is kneading better which makes me think that due to age the old breadmaker probably was not kneading properly anymore.
Settings:
I programmed a custom setting after the first loaf because I felt the wholemeal setting did not bake the bread to our ...Read more

Three faults. I am sad, but I will return mine.
Living some 250 KM out of Melbourne, I have had three problems. 1)Back of menu light stopped working 2) The paddle, which is quite useless as it still leaves a hole in the bread sticks in position at all times, despite cleaning and soaking paddle thoroughly 3) the fruit and nut dispenser stopped working, despite loud clicking noises....As there are no service agents in Wangaratta I will return it as absolutely unreliable when cooking and the costs of sending it back is prohibitive...Has Brevile thoroughly tested these things in the field? I doubt it. The bread, It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what results you're going to get...

Just wonderful. Does everything it says it will.
First time I used it I was really tired. Realised too late that I'd picked up the wrong measuring spoon. Pressed the start button anyway. The result was a great loaf. This machine is so forgiving. The loaves are beautifully shaped with a lovely texture. I've also made jam and marmalade and pizza dough. I grind my own wheat to make 100% wholemeal flour. This is the machine to make the most of my lovely soft wholemeal flour. Can't wait to try my medieval beer barley bread recipe. The recipes in the manual are tempting, too.

ently sponge it out. For bread and jam this good I'm prepared to buy a new pan every year or so.I've now been using it at last twice a week for a year. It's still fine. No problems with the pan. My beer barley bread turned out fine.

Easy to use bread machine - Love the fresh bread
I bought this second hand off Gumtree. It works great.
I love the fresh bread these things make and also make pizza dough in the breadmaker quite regularly. You can even use it to cook Chili con carne or similar heat and stir type meals .
I use the lauke German mix which is oh so tasty. Breadmix takes the hassle out of assembling all the ingredients into a 2 minute job at about $1 worth of ingredients per loaf.
You can do you own sour dough if inclined. Hot cross buns are yum too.
Good points:

Very limited lifespan
I bought this machine 3 years ago and used it around 2 to 3 times a month. After around 2 and a half years, during a cycle the machine would switch off itself or the power would flicker at a very rapid rate. This problem use to go away by completely switching off the machine and re-starting again. However, now it has completely stopped working. I called Breville customer support and sent them a video of the problem as well. They said that as it is outside the 2 years warranty period they are unable to fix it. Given the price tag, the machine does not seem durable enough to last more that a couple of years.

Not up to scratch
I've had a few Breville bread makers and this is the worst. The others were good and simply wore out. The mixing process is not vigorous enough and leaves unmixed lumps of dough around the sides. The recipes seem to require more water than stated and my particular machine's light baking setting is too dark, resulting in dry, overcooked bread which is most unappetising. The paddle's retractable feature is unnecessary as it leaves a deep hole anyway and is a nuisance to clean properly with a little brush, etc. Otherwise it sticks. Already, the co...Read more
ating on the paddle is coming off, which means it has ended up in the bread. I contacted Breville about the overcooked "light" setting not long after purchasing and sent a photo but was fobbed off. I've given this machine my best shot but I would not recommend this product.1 comment

Terrible unless you like eating bricks
I was thoroughly disappointed with this product. I bought it last week and have had problems with it not mixing properly, and there seems to be some issues with it sealing and heating properly. I made sure it was not an issue with my ingredients and used fresh flour, yeast etc. I've had bread makers before and have churned out loaves of delicious soft fluffy bread but it's not happening with this. Myer have said I can return it and exchange for another type. Thank you Myer.

Never have to buy Bread again
I have had my Breville Bread maker for two months now and I absolutely love it. I make
4-5 loaves a week and have also tried brioche which was delicious. The only thing I have a problem with is the bread has a hole on the bottom where the paddle is. So I presume the paddle doesn't collapse at the end of mixing.
I love to wake up to the smell of fresh bread.

Best. Bread maker. Ever.
My old breadmaker died and I had just bought new bread flour so that gave me the impetus to hunt for a new machine. Bought this breville bread maker as I have plenty of breville equipment and I like the quality of their gear. It's a terrifically brilliant machine. So easy to use, and perfect bread every single time. Get one- you'll love it.

Great product pity about the warranty
This bread maker has been great for making bread for the last year my only problem is with the warranty. The collapsible paddle on mine just fell apart and when I rang to get a replacement breville told me it is not covered by warranty as it isn't a major component of the machine. Considering you can't make bread without the paddle I would consider this a major component.

By far the best so far
I have been making bread for over 10 years now and finally got sick of the kneading paddle being stuck in the centre of the loaf so I went looking for a kneading paddle that would not do this and found that the Breville Custom Loaf was the only one around. Not only does this work really well but the I am finding the other features such as the customisation and the delayed start as indispensable. Before going to bed just set the number of hours and minutes before you would like it to be ready and in the morning you wake to the wonderful a...Read more

have come up with a solution that works flawlessly for me. It may be an inconvenience for some, but what you do is. 1. Calculate the time for when rise 3 will begin, in my case it is 1:35 (you can get this from the manual) 2.Set a timer for 1:35 - when it goes off, wait for the Breville to begin rise 3 knock-down. (this lasts for about 10 seconds)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Performance of my BBM600
I used this machine for over 4 years without failure making 5 loafs a week with not a problem at all.
The folding paddle is cleaned and washed with a tooth brush and warm water this works well for me
Yes indeed it shows wear and tear so does a new car, if you don't like make your bread in the oven.
Good luck

Great while it worked!
I got this machine for Mothers Day last year and within three months the element stopped baking. I took it back to the store to get a replacement and again within another five months my bread started to become flat and dense, half the size it had been. I changed my yeast, bought new flour and still no luck. I have just returned it to the store and replaced it for a different brand and my bread is fluffy again.

Great Machines needs improving
I am happy with this Machine. The 3 faults it does have 1.The paddle go so hard its hard to use. 2. Wash mine very careful but the pan is starting to peel, I have 2 of them and both the same. 3. Do not wash the bottom of the pan in water that rust after awhile, nor do I set for hours in advance as the water starts to go through the bottom. Remember most things are made in china now days. If breville were to improve on that I believe they would have the best machine on the market.

How do I get the crust to brown?
1 answer
You have a custom pro machine. It is programmable. Read your book. Your programme selection dial can be turned anticlockwise and here you can start your very own set of programs. Select all the parameters that are in the program that you like that you are happy with, change just one at a time. Perhaps raise the baking temp 4- 5 degrees, or extend the baking time 5-10 minutes. But don’t do both at the one time.

I am getting a - - - H message. The machine has not been used for little over a week and has not been used intensively. Even put it in a room with a/c (live in a hot weather). Yet still get the message and can’t get it to work. Any help?

How do you get a decent colour on the top of the loaf? Mine always comes pale and looking uncooked.
