Great until now!
I've used my machine once a week for months now and it's been great. Suddenly the whole top row of buttons won't work, and neither will the start button. There's nothing about this in troubleshooting.

Nno service
Breville always try to not fix or replace anything. I was given the run around and they were very rude. The attitude was if it is under warranty ok but if not happy with the design and issues too bad. I will never buy breville ever again.
if the product does not operate as it should you should be entitled to your money back, breville beleive they are above the law,, the worst ever service and attitude i ever experienced, they will not help you, be warned.

Auto Dial not working
I purchased this machine two weeks ago and have attempted to make frozen yoghurt on two occasions. The first attempt ran for 111 minutes when I decided to turn the machine off. It was still on cooling mode. The dial would not work softer to harder. You could just toggle between the different types of varieties. I called Breville for assistance and was asked to email them. This was a week ago and no reply. Today I called again with a response that I could take it to a service centre. The closest service centre to me is two hours away as I live in country Victoria. Needless to say I am quite disappointed with the result.

Auto Dial not working
This machine makes fantastic icecream. But now the auto dial does not work. Doing a factory reset doesn't resolve the situation. Reading through other reviews, this fault seems to be quite common

Great
I read the reviews on this product as I wanted a machine with a compressor so I didn't have to freeze the bowl. It works well and I now get to have icecream with less sugar, no preservatives and enjoy it. it's an easy to use machine but is very bulky.

More experience . . .
I've now leant more about pre-cooling. If you pre-cool the bucket without the mixture, you have two choices: take the bucket out of the machine to fill it, or leave it in the machine while you fill it. The manufacturer recommends not doing the latter, because you risk spilling mixture into the machine. I recommend not doing the latter, because any humidity in the air will result in condensation on the outside of the bucket; that will turn to ice when you put the bucket back in the machine, so you won't be able to get it out again. Solution: put the mixture into the bucket first, and pre-cool everything together.

Hi Michael, Thanks for your review. The reason why we don't suggest cooling the mixture in the bucket during pre-cool is that the paddle doesn't move in the pre-cool setting so the mixture may start t... Read more

into the unit while it is precooling so the bucket gets cold too. Once the unit tells me that it's ready I pull the bucket out (if I'm lazy I do pour it straight in but know if I spill it it is extra cleanup) then pour mixture into the bucket and pop the bucket back in. It only takes a few seconds. Hope this helps. Ps highly suggest the apple crumble ice cream and the salted caramel if you feel comfortable making a caramel!Similar opinion? Auto Dial not working
I'm having the same issue as a few users here, the auto dial has stopped working and is stuck on gelato. I can't get it to move up to ice cream mode, so I've had to go manual. Sounds like a common problem

Breville Customer service???
After calling the 'Customer Service Centre', it was felt that more could have been done to help.
After making a batch, the spindle inside the housing is covered. Is this a normal function or is the bowl not being inserted correctly? Who knows?
The poor agent on the phone certainly had no clue as all he could do was help with what was in the instruction booklet and with recipes.
Help. What a mess it makes.

Ice cream too hard
I made now 3 times a vanilla ice cream but found it too hard. Even if I take it out of the freezer 15 minutes beforehand, it is still not nice and creamy. I also tried to add some contreau, when the machine beeped to add something, but it still very hard. What do I do wrong?

Hi Ann, We're sorry you are not happy with the ice cream you are making. What recipe/ingredients are you using and which method?
I made the Basic Vanilla Ice cream from your book but used 2 tsp. vanilla extract and also I used Stevia sweetener which I added just before putting it in the ice cream maker, so may be it is because of that?
Naomi S.Breville
The stevia will affect the ice cream. All home made ice creams are harder naturally than store bought because they don't have air pumped into them and other 'things' and we normally say that leaving ... Read more

AUTO DIAL NOT WORKING
great machine for making ice cream very useful. However used it for like 3 times and the auto dial button stopped working. Tried to reset the machine to factory default. It did not let me change my hardness selection and stays in gelato mode only. Is the machine faulty or am I not operating it right?
quick and easy to make ice cream
Auto dial button for selecting hardness does not work. Used it for like 3 times perfect. However just tried making ice cream again and now I cant select the hardness. Did a defeaul factory reset my holding holp the keep cool button for 5secs. The dial still doesnt work after that.

This is one of those things that you see and immediately fall in love with but find it a little expensive at the time
My husband and I fell in love with this ice cram maker when we first saw it .... It's a little big but that didn't bother us at all .... It seemed expensive so we decided to wait for it to go on sale (which doesn't happen that often) .....
When it finally went on sale at Myers we went the very same day and bought it .... So far I have tried almost all of the ice cream recipes from the recipe book that comes with the machi...Read more

Great ice-cream maker
Love my Breville Smart Scoop. It makes fantastic ice-creams, gelatos, frozen yoghurts and sorbets. Have had great success with the recipes in the booklet that comes with it. Have also had fun trying out recipes from other sources and they've all worked perfectly. My only small complaint is that I have had ice-cream mixture seep inside the joins at one end of my paddle which I cannot get out. This means that my paddle has a slight 'off-milk' smell about it because I can't get the old mixture out from the inside of the paddle.
Great results, easy to use, good recipe booklet
Paddle design can allow mixture to seep in between the joins at the ends

This really is the perfect ice cream maker
Being lactose intolerant, ice cream is not something I get to indulge in very often. So after seeing this machine for sale by a major retailer, I did some research online to find out what this machine could do. Also, before buying the machine, I called breville to enquire about using lactose free cream and milk in the machine, the salesperson wasn't sure and spoke to someone in the test kitchen, and yes you can successfully use lactose free cream and milk in place of regular. So I went out and bought it! I've made so many different ice creams n...Read more
ow, some lactose free, some regular for the kids, I've also made gelato and frozen yoghurt. I've used recipes from the book that came with the machine and also searched ice cream recipes online, all very successful, and all barely made it to the freezer before disappearing! There is some prep work for certain ice creams/gelatos, which also require you to refrigerate the base for around 4 hours or so, before adding to the machine, but there are other recipes that are as easy as mixing up the ingredients and adding to the machine. The machine has a precool function, so no having to freeze the bowl beforehand or add salt to the machine. It has a keep cool function too so if you aren't ready to get the ice cream out when it's ready, you don't need to worry. It gives you the option to select your dessert, and three hardness options, it beeps to let you know when to add any mix ins and then beeps again once it's finished. Once you've started the machine, it takes less than 50 mins for your ice cream to be ready. I can't fault this machine, my only problem is I don't get to use it as often as I'd like to! Everything! can't fault itSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Quite a good machine.
I was very hesitant spending this amount of money on a machine that only makes ice cream. However we have used it several times now and it does do a fantastic job. The ice cream comes out a perfect consistency in around 45 mins. It's amazing how quickly it cools the mixture at the start and no need to worry about pre freezing bowls. Loads of fun making up your own creations with all natural ingredients. Cleanup is quite easy. The only complaint I have is that the 1L container is just not big enough and makes it hard to scoop out the finished product.
Easy, quick, great consistency. No pre freezing.
1L container is too small

terrific results
Wow, after having 2 previous ice cream makers, one being the old salt cooled 'great american' 30 yrs ago, this has been fabulous. Quick, so easy to use and such great consistency achieved in a short time. Gelato awesome! Have avoided recipes with eggs, however still getting beautiful creamy results. We did get off to a rocky start, as due to lack of stock in the store, we purchaced the display model which sadly did not freeze, just heated the bowl.. this was replaced and we were off!
easy to use, quiet machine

Ice Cream Supreme
I bought this product last week and I would have to say it is fantastic.
I like the Pre Cool mode which certainly speeds up the whole ice cream making process. Best of all you don't have to put an ice cream bowl in the freezer 12hrs before hand, you can decide that you need some ice cream or sorbet and within a few hours you can be eating a really nice dessert. The hardness selection is great and you can keep your dessert chilled for a few hours in the machine once it has been made. The machine has a great finish and complements other kitche...Read more
