Easy
Very easy to use with a bright and informative lcd display. It makes great ice cream and is far better than using those freeze bowls that often make runny ice cream. Several handy features including fast cool down and keep cool. I love it, there are simple recipes and all are very good.
Stylish, easy to use, many options.
High price but worth it

Simply the best
Purchased this unit today at Good Guys for $340 and made the best vanilla icecream with no hassle. Was originally looking at the ones where you freeze the bowl but have limited space in my freezer and with this you don't have to wait. Will also make frozen yogurt and sorbet. Easy to clean and looks good on benchtop.
Easy to use has automatic setting as well as manual settings.
Heavy and expensive

The best ice-cream / gelato maker I've used.
I've owned a number of ice-cream/gelato makers in the past but this is by far the best I've seen on the market and it can be had for a price of much less capable machines. The interface is remarkably advanced and user-friendly for a home machine. The fit and brushed stainless finish is absolutely top class and control buttons are machined alloy with backlit indicators and blue LCD. In short, the Breville looks good, makes great ice-cream, works like a The Smart Scoop has a number of neat features including pre-cooling mode while you are still preparing the mixture, an air-tight clear lid that aids cooling and stops ice condensing on the bowl while it's pre-cooling. When the mix has reached the preset consistency (sorbet, frozen yoghurt, gelato or ice-cream) the machine can keep the mix at that consistency with the 'keep cool' mode after the cycle finishes. As the batter is freezing, the machine updates you with the current temperature and the elapsed time which is handy. I've made a few batches of ice-cream and gelato so far and found it a really brilliant machine - so wanted to let everyone know having tried some others - if you're looking for a machine - this is the better choice. One point - you may have a hard time securing one - I had mine on order for 3 months, as there seems to be a shortage of sorts on this machine. I found some cheap prices online around $320 as compared to RRP of $400, so went into Bing Lee in Haymarket (Sydney) and asked if they could match and to my surprise they could. Just that I had to wait 3 months! Hopefully availability is better now, but just letting you know to strike up a deal wherever you buy since you can do much better than the RRP. The only thing which I was questioning was the rotary dial for mixture control feeling a bit loose, I think it's the design of the dial but other than that I haven't had any issues with using the machine. Some history. My first machine was a cheap $25 K-Mart job with a freezer bowl, which was really not very good on any front. I then had the kitchen-aid Freezer bowl set which was ok IF you freeze it for a long time at the coldest setting and it wasn't a hot day. The morot was obviously seriously powerful, but you can only make one batch a day and I have no freezer room to keep it frozen and handy anymore. The next one was a 'real' ice-cream maker, a Sunbeam Gelateria, which had it's own freezer built in but the motor, interface and usability was poor compared to the Smart Scoop. It requires you to put a salt water mix between the machine and the bowl to aid heat transfer and the paddle always gave up before it should have (see the reviews). I seriously have trouble with the fact this Sunbeam Gelateria model is still available, un-changed, years later, while the Breville Smart Scoop can be had for the same price! You would be silly to not buy the Smart Scoop. Strong paddle motor, quite operation, great stainless steel finish, quality interface and controls loose feeling mixture control knob1 comment
I went through 2 Sunbeams both with the paddle getting stuck 1/2 way through batches!!! Was hoping this is not the case with the Breville as i'm a bit hesitant to buy another ice cream maker now.

Easy to use
I use the product at least 3 times per week and try different flavours. It's easy to use and the quick mix ice cream is made from scratch in under an hour,
Have also tried frozen yogurt and gelato with amazing results.
Easy to clean too and would highly recommend this product.
Easy to use with great results.
A bit heavy to lift in and out of the cupboard.

Ice Cream on Tap
I was pleastantly surprised with this purchase.
You can buy manual ice cream makers (freeze the bowl type) quite cheaply.
I was more interested in the real deal with the built in compressor but was a little weary because they are quite expensive.
After extensive internet research and review reading of many brands, I decided on the Smart Scoop from Breville based pretty much on a single review video on the Breville Food Thinkers site by a restuarant - Gelato Messina in Darlinghurst NSW.
They obviously don't use this machine to make all their product, but it must have worked well enough for them to use it with their receipe.

Bought mine today. Very excited and made The angaliase according tl instructions. 3 1/2 hours later still waiting for ice cream. Cannot understand where I went wrong and very frustrated at this point. Think I will call the customer service tomorrow.
If its not getting cold then you could have a faulty compressor. If its cold but not setting then I'd double check the recipe.

hello ..my problem is that i start my machine on a ice cream setting and starts to churn then in 15 secs it says remove paddle ready,It looks like it skips the timing process in both manual and auto as indictor line just moves straight up to desired setting of Gelato,ice cream, frozen yogurt, it seems to by passing the process.

Help I have obviously spilled mix down the middle some hope and have had my machine in storeage just opened it and it smelled so I checked it and looks like some has gone down into the rotating part please how do I get in there to clean it ? Do I have to take the whole case off ?
