A Real Statement in Home Coffee Grinders
After purchasing a home coffee machine, it quickly became apparent that if I was serious about getting the best out of my new machine, I would need to be able to grind coffee beans. After my usual research, I chose the Breville BCG820BSS Coffee Grinder.
Breville have done their homework. The machine caters for all coffee types, espresso, filter, plunger (French press) and cold press. And in this capacity, the machine will take small to large group handles, a filter basket (from your filtered coffee machine), or an impressively designed airtigh...Read more
t jar that is included in the package. The group handles have an option of two cradles, magnetically held, depending on the size handle being used. There is a removeable bottom tray also held by a magnet. The hopper takes more beans than is required but would hold near to half a kilo. (I only dispense what I need for the day and keep the bulk sealed in its bag to maintain freshness.) The locking feature of the hopper ensures safety - the machine will not operate without it being locked in place. This protects access to the grinding burrs. When unlocked, the hopper may be removed without spilling any beans from the bottom. There is an air-tight lid which probably affords some contribution to maintaining bean freshness, and the lid also has a pull-ring to help remove the lid - a nice thought. The machine will allow activation by the group handle pressing a button at the back of the dispensing area. In dispensing ground coffee, I initially weighed the group handle before and after. A barista taught me that consistent weight is one step towards getting perfect coffee. Compared to many other grinders, the Breville is reasonably quiet. But don’t expect whisper quietness. Remember, we are grinding coffee beans.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent value for Money
Breville BCG820BSS Coffee Grinder
Well after two years down the track and using the Breville BCG820BSS every day I thought it was about time to put pen to paper and write down my thoughts about this product. The unit was well packed and complete with all fittings, easy to assemble the last couple of parts that are separated for packing purposes & in a short period of time I was able to attempt my first grind. The first thing I noticed was that there was no static electricity charge in the coffee grounds, and they fell neatly into the tamper ba...Read more
sket, this was a definite plus as far as I was concerned as my previous 2 machines saw ground coffee that seemed electrically charged from the grinding operation and as a result saw coffee grinds falling outside the tamper basket which meant that there was always a bit to clean up after grinding. Now don’t get me wrong my previous machine was a Sunbeam Café series machine (lower price range) and was excellent value for money and I would recommend it to anyone working on a lower budget, but it did have that static charge issue & to get the best out of it I did need to weigh my coffee grounds to get a consistent cup of coffee. Time and grind adjustments covered all types of coffee styles (drip to espresso) and I found I was able to find the ideal settings to make my brew in only a short number of attempts. The feature of being able to stop the grind part way through the process to enable you to level out the grounds in the tamper basket was a nice feature, although the ten second pause before the machine reset to start was a bit short to start with (I’d rather see a time of fifteen seconds on this setting) but after a short period of time one got used to this and adapted my style to suit this time frame. If I did take too long levelling the grounds in the basket the press and hold function of the Start/Pause/Cancel button enabled to manually grind the additional grounds required to fill your tamper basket. For those purchasing one of these units I will give a brief run down on how I adjust my machine to obtain a consistent cup of coffee. If making and espresso style coffee (single basket) start off with the unit set to around 12 to 14 on the grind size and around 13 seconds for the time setting, adjust the time so that the tamping basket is full to the correct level when tamped and when this is correct adjust the grind setting to look for that 25 to 30 second extraction time. You will find that when making minor adjustments to the grind setting you may also have to make small adjustments to the grind time (0.2 second or so) to keep the levels consistent. I have found over the years that different brands of coffee beans (they say a change is as good as a holiday) need different adjustments (both time & grind settings) to obtain a consistent cup. Also note that for a two-cup basket try a couple of clicks finer in grind and a good starting point is around the twenty second mark. For further information I always go to the manufacturers website prior to purchase & download a copy of the user manual. All in all I am very happy with my machine & feel it represents excellent value for money in its price range.

Dail your coffee grind
I bought an 820 and used it only for a week and the grinder failed. Breville replaced it without a problem and the second one has been grinding away for a month or two and I really like it. It has its own timer so you don't have to stand with your finger on the button while it grinds. I like the different settings for the grade of grind. I do find some ground coffee under the container when I use it but not a major problem. I haven't used the single or double grind feature. As I often have a second cup during the day I always use the container
Purchased in May 2021 at JB Hi-Fi for $195.00.

Excellent design
It offers settings for volume and fineness of coffee powder. The digital display is useful. The automatic start function is quite handy. The user interface is excellent. I bought it to replace my old Delonghi grinder that can’t make fine powder anymore. It is a pleasant surprise that the coffee is markedly better with this grinder.
Purchased in July 2021 at Bing Lee for $190.00.

Clumpy grinds - awful grinder
Bought the dynamic duo and spent about a week trying to get a decent grind out of this grinder. The clumping and channeling the grinder caused was appalling. So much so I took the grinder back (particularly as it was making strange noises). I got another which wasn’t much better which I sold on eBay in disgust! My 9 year old sunbeam grinder out performed this every time. Now happy with a proper grinder (macap).
Purchased in February 2021.

A Perfect Grinder
Purchased together with a BES840...this grinds the beans perfectly, & the BES pours the perfect cup.
It is extremely simple to operate, takes up minimal real estate, looks good and is easy to clean.
The ease with which one can alter both the dose and the grind is a major point.
Breville did a fantastic job with this machine.

What a great combo package!
Most of the time when buying a coffee machine you only get the coffee maker itself and have to buy a grinder. The grinder with the coffee machine is optional but it's available with or without. I recommend getting it as it dose a great job saving time having to get a blender out

Great grinder but be careful
Great grinder, extremely easy to clean. However, it does take time to master the skill of knowing the exact coarse or fine levels for the coffee. Every coffee is different so do not get angry when your coffee is running too fast. The coffee machine used is also Breville and it is also brilliant. Makes me feel like I have a cafe at home.

So easy
This coffee grinder is so easy to use. Easy to read display. Good instruction book, with table setting out grind settings for different brewing methods, i.e. Espresso, percolator, plunger, etc. Can grind direct to coffee filter basket or supplied container. Jagged it on special at Myers and couldn't be happier.

Awesome grinder
I've had this grounder now for a year and I love it. It grinds both very finely and very coarse - so it's great for whichever coffee you prefer really. It doesn't make a lot of noise and it grinds the coffee quick. Highly recommended - I couldn't live without it now.

Great workhorse
The digital settings are easy to use, I normally use it for pourover and aeropress but produces fine enough coffee for espresso and cleaning is real easy. It even has ability to tighten the burrs if they loosen to produce finer grind. Good entry level grinder without hurting the pocket.

Great for all types of coffee beans
We bought this to use along side with out coffee machine as we love fresh ground coffee and this small device is a great addition and grinds beans down to almost perfect shaves of coffee and ample to use. The samples that came with it was also good to try but ran out super fast!

Great!
This is a really good coffee machine, the 3 star review is because it doesn’t leave room for large cups to be put under it.
Also the grinder is very very noisy at 3 am in the morning. But that’s probably as I am the only 9ne up at that time.

Dependable and consistent results.
This machine is used in conjunction with my Breville Duo Temp Pro espresso machine (see seperate review and is a perfect match.)
It has an easy to read display that tells you the selected grind size (chosen by turning a knob on right side), the length of the grind in seconds and the number of shots/cups chosen. The machine will adjust the time of grind according to the number of shots/ cups chosen. It took me about 3 grinds to dial in the amount and size of grind I reqd (for MY perfect esspresso coffee with the beans I us,) so is very easy to ...Read more

Great coffee
Makes great fresh coffee and does not take too long. It is nice and quiet so doesn’t wake everyone up I first thing in the morning. It is fairly easy to clean as long as you clean it more or less straight away. I would not recommend leaving it until the end of the day.

Very happy with this grinder
I was looking for a machine to make decent coffee at home because I was sick of the awful taste of Nespresso. Initially I purchased this grinder after reading reviews on this website and used an AeroPress.
The grinder is as good as the reviews suggest and has performed well over the past year I have owned it.
6 months after purchasing I happened to come across the Sunbeam EM700 coffee machine on sale and online reviews were very positive so I took the plunge.
This Breville grinder paired with the above mentioned coffee machine and some good quality coffee beans from my local cafe, this makes a fantastic cup of coffee!

New World Of Coffee
I just love this grinder. A funny thing to say maybe but if you love coffee and I do, this baby opens up a whole new world of choice to you.
I was a mere drinker of supermarket ground coffee until I bought this. That meant a whole new world of bespoke beans grinders and coffee flavours opened up to me.
You pour the beans in the big hopper on top and and then it seems a little overwhelming with choices at first because this baby has an almost endless array of custom settings (600 grind choices) but once you are in the swing of daily use, it...Read more

As good as the hype
always wanted a barista style coffee machine but waited until black friday sales to pull the trigger on this set. Absolutely love it. Grinder and machine both super easy to use, clean and maintain but my favourite would have be the steam wand. hubby doesn't drink coffee so i use it to make his hot chocolates - comes out beautifully. thick, velvety and creamy. Steam jet is powerful, and the dual boiler means i can extract my coffee and steam milk at the same time! highly recommended
