Can you use it WITHOUT the frothing discs to just heat milk?

No, you need to use one of the discs. If you don't want frothy milk, the Latte disc would be the one to use. There is no heavy froth when using that one. I use it to heat milk for my cereal ... using the latte disc.

My milk frother does not turn on again. I have checked different power outlets around the house. and apparently the power is not the problem but the machine itself. This is been happening randomly. I would appreciate if you could help me. Thanks

Hi Maria, I sympathise. We are on our third Breville BMF600 frother. The first two refused to work after a year or so;, responding with 3 beeps when powered on. One possible explanation is the internal safety cutout being too sensitive, thinking it's got moisture inside. Not heard from Breville though. They seem to ignore product design faults and concentrate more on packaging.

I love this machine & highly recommend it, have never had any problems. With your issue, I'd contact Breville - give them the chance to remedy the situation before you blast their product. If they respond appropriately, that's good. They said in the past "Please give us the opportunity to correct the situation by contacting our dedicated customer care team at 1300 139 798 (M-F, 8am-5pm) or at [email protected]
PS. When not being used, I turn it off at the power, that might be an advantage.

Have you changed your brand of milk? Try storing your container in the frig and make sure the milk is nice and cold before adding it

Thanks milk the same straight out of fridge. I feel that something is wrong with the disc. But can’t see anything. Could there be an issue with how the jug sits on cradle??

Mmm, not sure. Mine is amazing. Have you checked what temperature you have the dial set to?

Shaz

Dial is always on as hot as it will go, i have tried different temps too to try & get it working but it doesn't make a difference. I agree, it's amazing if u get it on a day it works. Thx for ur reply

Sally

Mine does this too ... and will take ages for it to 'cool down' after it has stopped midway heating the milk. I have noticed that if there's any condensation on the outside of the jug (if you've put chilled milk in it and not turned it on immediately) thats a guarantee that it either wont start, or will turn off too soon.

Could let people know that non frothing problem also could be the milk itself. I had trouble and was given a new machine by retailer. It didn't froth either. I was using Dairyfarmers milk. I went and bought some Noco milk and it frothed beautifully. But nobody had suggested I try a different milk

what is the minimum and maximum amounts of milk that i can use for heating and frothing. I have read that the minimum is too much for 1 cup.

The min & max is shown on the side. It is not suited to doing 1 small latte b/c you'd waste milk. This machine is great for making 2-5 lattes. If only making 1 coffee, I use the microwave & warm up the milk for 45 secs.

Hi Kaz, it does take a little while..maybe around 4mins.

I haven't timed it but It takes about 2 mins per cup to heat. Microwaves take about 90 secs but need to be watched. They are time based and not heat based so milk can still be burned.

Check that the disk is turning, it can get stopped easily. Put some water in and see what it does. Coffee shops use steam to froth the milk.

Is it under warranty? I have been using mine for over a year and did not have this problem. It only stops when it reaches the desired temperature settings for me it is 70

If it makes a "rrrr" sound like its trying to spin, empty your milk/liquid into your cup, take the spinner disc off and then click it back on. Make sure you hear the click because if its not on properly it wont work.

Light soya milk not good for frothing?

2 answers
Possum

I don't know, but years ago when I used soya milk for "health" reasons it nearly crippled me with arthritis and I suspect it was the reason my thyroid stopped working properly, so I wouldn't touch soya milk with a barge pole. Other "healthy" nut milks have a nasty ingredient called carrageenan. If you really need to avoid milk, best get used to black coffee, and still get all the health benefits of the coffee discovered in the past few years. Ice cold skim milk froths well in a milk shake maker, and then you heat it in the microwave, but I much prefer the taste of normal milk in the breville. Skim milk has a higher glycemic index, so if it's weight you're interested in, you're better off with normal milk.

not sure about light soya milk but cafes use bonsoy to make their lattes as it apparently makes good froth. hope this helps :)

Does anyone find that the machine is quite noisy during operation? I purchased one today and tried it out and its awfully noisy for something brand new.

Hi loz

It's definitely louder than an aeroccino but it's not silent. The noise sounds more like the frother attachment spinning. The noise doesn't seem unusually loud and i take it as more of a sign that it's in operation so i know it's running. To me it sounds normal.

I have owned this for about 2 years. I never get the amount of froth that is shown in all the videos. What is the best milk fat persentage to use? We usually purchase 1% milk.

Hi Bob. I have tried pretty much every type of milk and I think I get a pretty awesome froth. I use Paul Zymil full cream milk at 70 degrees, with the latte frothing disc (the smooth one). It's also important to pour it as soon as it beeps, so that the milk and and froth don't separate.
Milk I've tried: Pauls Full Cream, Paul Trim, Pauls Skim, Coles Full Cream, Pauls Low Fat Zymil, A1 Full cream, Aldi Lactose free.

I'm not sure why Pauls Zymil works the best, and I got a "Sciency" trying to find out what type of milk the froth so good. As you can see I tried multiple Lactose free varieties and it wasn't that. I tried multiple Full Cream and Trim (Low Fat and Skim are useless for a nice thick froth in my opinion). You'd think using Full Cream milk wouldn't be so good for your waist-line but because it froths up so well I find I use less milk than if I use any other variery, resulting in less over-all calories, for a better tasting Latte.

Give it a go and let me know what you think.

Kat
Kat

I agree with Robs response. I use paul Zymil low fat milk too and that has given me froth even when using the latte disc. I haven't had to use the frothing disc yet. I used full cream milk and definitely don't get the same amount of froth. Maybe it's the brand of milk but zymil low fat is the way to go.

Hi Bob, until our machine died(see my review) we used Auldi long life skim milk, with the frothing disc, the milk was cold straight from the fridge, 1 cup of milk would froth & fill the container. Temp would be set 60 - 70 deg

Assuming you've put the disc in completely? Maybe the plastic disc is a bit worn and now just that little bit too loose?
