Not a good toaster
I bought one of these toasters when they first came out, wasnt cheap but worked really well. I recently replaced it with the same model and am very disappointed with it, it doesn't toast like the first one did, if you turn it up too high it burns the bread but doesn't toast on the lower settings. Wont be buying another one.
Purchased in April 2021 for $168.00.

Like it and have bought twice but also broken twice
Highly recommend when you buy it buy the extended warranty. I am on the second one I've purchased however I've had 3 altogether as one was replaced under warranty. The first one the element went in the right hand side. The second one (free warranty replacement) the button on the right (the side I use most failed) - I must admit I've pressed that button 3000 times. The third one the element has gone again. I will probably buy again but would like a product that lasts a long time not just 3-5 years. Next time longest extended warranty I can get and I won't lose the receipt.

two replacements in 16 months. Rubbish.
Don't bother. First replacement was 9 months after purchase. Stopped working all together. Second replacement was 7 months later - only one side would toast. Great when it worked but poor quality and wholly unreliable. Buy any toaster but this one. Couldn't be worse.
Purchased in February 2021 at Peter's of Kensington for $150.00.

Warranty expires and the toaster expires with it!
When we purchased this toaster it was exactly what we wanted! For 12 months it worked like a charm- We are a family of 5 and we used it regularly. Within 6 weeks of the warranty expiring (12 months) the toaster handle won’t hold down. In order to use the toaster, you have to stand with it (while in use) and hold the handle down in place for it to toast! I would NOT recommend this toaster- it’s not with the price tag!
Purchased in April 2021 at Myer for $119.00.

Even toasting and fits large sourdough slices
This toaster is stylish and has a lot of handy features, including a 'little bit more' function for when you don't want to re-start the process. There is also a progress bar that shows you how far along in the cooking process you are. Overall though, our favourite feature of this toaster is the even heating. Plus it is the perfect size for larger bits of bread (or 4 standard size).

Faulty Product
Toasts for five or ten seconds and then pops up regardless of applied setting. You need to stand near the toaster and keep pushing it down to collect your burnt toast. Waste of money and would recommend avoiding this product at all costs. Totally ripped off by Breville. Will not be purchasing Breville in the future.

Expensive Landfill
Well, I reckon it's been just over a year since I was last on the toaster purchasing roundabout and after much deliberating I decided to shell out the cash (around $150 from memory) for the 4 slice version of this overpriced hunk of junk. It was ok (as in it effectively toasted bits of bread) for a couple of months, literally a couple of months before it started to decide that about 15 seconds was long enough to complete it's designed task more often than not and pop up. You could push is down and up it would come again, unsurprisingly not the ...Read more
least bit toasted. It would work sometimes but the frequency with which it would successfully toast diminished until a couple of months ago when operating it will now trip my powerboard safety switch. Given the amount of similarly themed reviews and and complete lack of response from the company responsible it seems that my experience if far from isolated. They clearly could not care less. Buy Australian they say... No chance I'll be making that mistake again, not if it is manufactured by Breville. So, probably a month or so out of warranty and into the landfill it will go. I get the impression I should just be glad it didn't toast my entire house by setting it on fire. If I can prevent one person from purchasing a Breville product resulting one more faulty appliance in the ground I'll take that as my good deed for the day.Similar opinion? 13 Months old Big spark and died !
Worked fine for the first few months then started burning toast on same low setting every now and then. Eventually, just after a year, flashed a big spark and cut off power in the house.

Do yourself a favour and DO NOT BUY a Breville.

Undocumented feature: Random toasting time.
No matter what time you select the toaster makes it’s own decision.
Awesome potential however product toast timer doesn’t work.
Burns or under cooks on a whim.
POS - Don’t buy it.
Terrible after sales services. Sent multiple email with no response.
The irony is we had the same problem with an earlier Breville two slice toaster and bought this expecting it would fix the problem.

Does not work for long- just pops up all the time without toasting
Worked great for a very short while - then inconsistent browning no matter what setting or bread/crumpet you used didn't make a difference --> and then After about 18 months use it consistently pops ups less than a few seconds after pressing the start lever - obviously not browning the bread at all. We have persisted with it by holding the lever manually down but now can't put up with it any longer and looking for an alternative that will actually cook toast and crumpets as it states it will, Not a big ask. After reading these reviews it looks...Read more
like a common problem. Would definitely NOT recommend this toaster or buy it again. Very disappointed as wanted a long slice toaster that had a crumpet option but wanted one that worked - not this one. Purchased from Myer - unfortunately didn't keep receipt (thought 'what could go wrong with a toaster) or would have returned it a few months after purchaseSimilar opinion? Absolutely the best toaster
This is one of the best toasters I have ever purchased. The ability to cook 4 slices at once saves time and effort. I just love the crumpet function which cooks crumpets mainly on one side only too perfection. The look and list makes it easy to see if the toast needs abit more time and makes it easier to remove from the toaster when done

Rubbish product, Rubbish after care service. Indicative of current Australian Standards!!!
We have owned our ($129) 4 slice toaster for approx. 21 months...used it barely 18 months. Its never been great, with the lever stretched to maximum darkness for toasting and the bread is still blonde. However, we pursued with the rubbish toaster as the next day, it would have to be adjusted to 2 and it will burn the bread. We just went with it. Not sure what the Crumpet function does...appears to be no different to other functions. Then, just 2 weeks ago, the toaster pops the bread up every 2 seconds with the cancel button flashing. Almost...Read more
like the product is possessed, the cancel button flashes and beeps even when turned off at the mains! The toaster is regularly cleaned out, in theory, it should not have just STOPPED working. Of course, its out of replacement warranty, but still under STATUTORY WARRANTY (2 years people....the big companies won't tell you that and will not honour it!). When contacting Breville, they acknowledged my email (at least) BUT offered a replacement for $75 with free delivery....WTH??? As I wasn't keen on even receiving a response, I went to KMART, spent $35, am anticipating this toaster will last me 12 months, in which case, I can go and buy another one and still be out in front financially than taking up the 'dud' offer from Breville to pay $75 for a piece of crap. When I conveyed this to the 'Ask Us' CSO, the reply I got was "Thank you for your reply" Regards...[name removed] Bravo Breville. Another useless Australian company with another useless Australian appliance.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Breville burns Its bridges with this lemon.
Bought this 4 slicer for $80 at the final days of Dick Smith, and thought it was a bargain. What a mistake. Got about 12 months of performance out of it before it started to inconsistently cook the toast, prematurely eject toast and refuse to stay down on occasion. Finally refused to start today and it promptly got binned after about 20 months of inconsistent use. I just want to point out that the electric toaster was invented in 1893 and that after 125 years Breville still can't work out how to make one work for consumers. I would have given them the benefit of the doubt except all of the negative reviews on this product show this to be the standard, not the exception.

Fantastic toaster. LOVE IT. So flexible.
Best toaster that we have ever had. Buy the 4 slice option was the best idea. We can do crumpets, pancakes, focassia, bread rolls and standard roast too. The pre-defined options to reheat (“a bit more”), defrost (“frozen”), and specifically toast “crumpets or fruit bread” come in handy. You can also cancel toast with one click if you think its’s burning. One of my favourite Breville products! Worth the extra investment. It has a pull-out base tray for cleaning which is better than most toasters but unfortunately the entire base is not removable...Read more

A great toaster!
We purchased the toaster a couple of weeks ago and so far we are very happy! It toasts very evenly and we love the features! Our only two complaints are that the stainless on the outside looks a little bit bumpy on the edges (obviously can’t be helped because it is stainless) and also that it would be nice if the toaster was a little bit deeper. Other than that - it’s great! We went from the Breville four slice Smart Toaster to this one, and are much happier with the size and weight - it’s so much easier to store!

Another shameful yet expensive product from Breville
An inconsistent toaster that is not worth your top dollar. The bread is so dry and the degree it toasts the bread on the same setting varies so wildly. I go to my parents home, throw some bread into their $15 Kmart toaster and the bread comes out wonderfully. Been having toast nearly every day for 30 years and this is by far the driest toast ever.

Don't buy this product.
This is the worst toaster I've ever had. The toast gets stuck, doesn't cook, then all the lights flash and I have to turn it off, so I never have hot cooked toast when I want it. Then I somehow have to try and get the bread out of the slots with the arms jammed shut. Appalling. What a rip off at $130.00. It's going on the garbage collection pile and I will never buy a Breville appliance again.I should have returned it a long time ago but it was a gift.

Looks good, doesn't work!
As other reviewers have noted, this toaster has some sort of fault that causes it to pop up a few seconds after pressing the lever down. This usually happens a few times before you can get it to stay down and it always pops up just as you walk away! Very frustrating.
Never consistent, burns sometimes, cooks only one side other times?!
We have several other Breville appliances which we are happy with, this toaster is not one of them.
Edit: We had several other Breville appliances we were happy with! Bought a kettle at the same time as toaster and now that has started playing up, starts to boil, stops, starts again, stops! Can't boil more than two cups of water. Hoping our Breville coffee machine doesn't break down now!

Hold onto your receipt
I like the size of this toaster for toasting larger slices of bread but was concerned about the reviews. Decided to try by buying from a nearby retailer and kept the receipt and warrently card in a safe place. It toasted well for the first month but not long after it started popping up after a few seconds on some occasions. Didn’t even make it to 3 months before the leaver would not stay down at all. Took it back to the retailer and got a refund. Will give another brand a go.

Breville 4 slice toaster
I recently purchased our Breville 4 slice toaster and now it is not toasting properly. I normally love all of Breville's products but this one hasn't come up to standard. I have to put it on 4 or 5 for it to brown, and sometimes I have to start it all over again toasting.

I have a Breville toaster bta730 - it’s our second one- it is constantly beeping and pops up seconds after pushing it down- I’ve cleaned out the crumb tray and gently turned it upside down- still no change... any tips?
1 answer
Just make sure you push it down firmly so that it locks in properly.
If you find this doesn't help if it is in the 12 month warranty see if you can get a new one under warranty.
JulzTasked
I decided to clean crumbs from my BTA730 model and tipped it upside down and now it no longer locks in place! Is this a repair job or can I 'fix' myself?
1 answer
Call Breville, tell them the unit is faulty or take back to store and get a refund. This model is a lemon.
Geoffasked
Just bought the BTA730 and it continually pops up when toast is pushed down. Does this on all settings, not impressed with this operation. After reading many reviews on this product, it seems like a lot of other people are having the same problem as me. Any solutions as replacement doesn't seem to be the answer?

I would first get it replaced under warranty, you never know the next one might not be a dud. But if it is then you can explore your consumer rights having taken the first step :)
In the first instance take it back to the place of purchase, I had no issues with exchanging my toaster. Having said that the replacement was even worse. Emailing Breville will just get you a standard reply, "Please be advised our products meet Australian Design Regulations and Breville has stringent quality control procedures in place" My request for another model met with a reply "speak to Myer to see what they can do!", no accountability from Breville at all. I now steer well clear of anything Breville. Had they have been more supportive I would think otherwise.
