Purchased after old toaster died. Seems to be working fine for us at the moment. Could have better labeling on the buttons, had to read the instructions to understand what all the colours mean on the buttons. The lifter could go up a little higher as we have burnt our fingers trying to get the toast out. But on the whole it is going well.

My kitchen has many Breville products, The Bakery Boss Mixer (gorgeous, see my review) The coffee machine, Their milk frother and now their toaster. My previous toaster was also Breville and I really wanted to replace it. I don't know the model number but it was a much loved member of my benchtop family. The new Breville does all the same things the old one did but the previous model had a more stylish shape, was more sturdy and the slots were longer which meant four slices of toast fitted more easily. I could not find a better toaster than the...
Read more Breville BTA635 four slice toaster. It's disappointing to go backwards in quality and to see the better toaster (my old one) is discontinued. I would happily have paid more to get my old one back. (It wasn't very old, maybe 4 years) So until Breville find out there are pleanty of people willing to pay for top quality and design and price is not really an issue, I'll put up with this new toaster. Ho hum.- Date Purchased
The toasting was never even and so I had to keep flipping the bread over. The Lift and Look was not as high as I would have expected. Mine only had a life of 4 years and I only used it on Sundays. It looks pretty and suited my decor but unfortunately didn't deliver.

Like an evil queen: beautiful on the outside, terrible on the inside
gorgeous cherry colour, all the buttons work but:
*it doesn't toast bread evenly (uncooked bits etc) even with the lift and look function.
*the strength or "doneness" lever doesn't work properly. I can only toast it on the weakest setting and even then I have to watch it like a hawk to make sure it doesn't burn-sometimes it needs more cooking, other times it sets off my alarm.
The warranty was only for one year and of course the problems started after that time. I would not recommend this product to others. Very disappointing.

shortly after we started using this it became erratic with its toasting, popping up before it was finished, then overtoasting and during the next time. What happened became a complete lottery. Then it started blowing the fuse and we gave up. It was a big mistake. Who has time to take this rubbish back and do battle with the shop. I just bought another one, but definitely not Breville.

Unfortunately this toaster hasn't worked properly from day one! Even on the highest setting the toast pops up after a few seconds, or halfway through toasting! It has now begun tripping the power! I should have taken it straight back but I put up with the problems. A costly mistake. This toaster is not fit for purpose. It may look great but looks can be deceiving! Don't be fooled.

Purchased the Breville BTA720 toaster from Myer in February 2016 based on its stylish appearance and the previous good reputation Breville had over may years ago. Took it home and on the first use the toaster leaver would not stay down and it took five attempts make it work. The toaster cooked different breads evenly which was a blessing however on occasions during the past 12 months it would repeat the fault experienced on day one causing me a lot of frustration. In March 2017 the toaster failed completely with the toaster leaver unable to ...

In terms of performance this toaster did not deliver and I warn people not to buy this toaster and to take note of the numerous poor reviews on this website. I did not expect it to last that duration but longer than 13 months I expected. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY- Date Purchased

Purchased a year ago and exactly the same problem as previous reviews. Have to try a number of times to keep toast down. Now all LED on push buttons have turned off and won't come back on. Breville have been around long enough to design a simple toaster. Please don't wast your money on this product.

I have to admit I checked the reviews here before purchasing this toaster. Having done so I had my chair and whip at the ready when I first turned it on just in case this appliance decided to turn on me causing grievous bodily harm and even worse poorly cooked toast.
I decided to go with a Breville despite the reviews because a housemate had an older Breville unit and they moved out taking it with them. It worked well and presented no issues and would have been 2 or 3 years old.
I have now had my new toaster for a couple of months and...
Read more it has worked flawlessly. I put the slider to midway or just a little less making minor adjustments based on the type of bread. Crumpets and muffins have likewise been cooked flawlessly. It is just a toaster so I'm not going to get too excited but it does its job well and it is very easy to live with. I thought I would add my experience because I think the reviews here are not altogether representative. Those people that genuinely got a dodgy unit have my sympathies but it is not representative of my experience with this toaster and generally with Breville appliances of which I have a few and are excellent. *Update: Over a year of usage and I haven't burnt myself or the house or the toast.- Date Purchased

After a few months we noticed that the lever was not staying down and the toaster popped during the cycle. Put up with it form months until we could not take any more. Totally frustrated. Contacted Breville. Got the ok to return to shop. Exchanged for a different toaster. So far so good. Thank you Breville for your understanding. Pity as it's a nice looking toaster.

Bought this toaster for a few reasons, unfortunately none of the reasons actually exist (false advertising). It is supposedly a "Lift & Look Pro" and the picture on the box shows how high you can lift it up to look at your toast and easily grab it - HUGE LIE. We have to use a plastic spoon to get the toast out even when you have completely lifted the lever and although it hasn't cooked the toast (on the max 5) you still end up burning your fingers on the top of the toaster trying to get your toast out. Every now and again (everyday though) the toaster pops up after 10secs even though you've put it on maximum 5. When you pay this much for a toaster you expect quality in performance not just looks.

Toast keeps popping up after sometimes just a second or two, sometimes half way through. Second one I've had, now more than 12 months old so no return I guess. Don't buy this model. Either get something cheaper or get a better model (I've used the mechanised Breville toaster and it works great).

This is a terrible toaster. Pops up randomly so need to watch it when cooking toast. Either burns the toast or comes out under done. Bought frim Dick Smith which has since closed down and when i called Breville they weren interested. Will never by a Breville again! Shame on them.

The toast finished beep did not work so I took it back to Myer. The second one did not beep and had the toast popping up prematurely. Returned it and got my old one back. Rang Breville and was told to take it back again. Chances of getting one that works? After 3 trips to Myer and the fact that they had sold out I asked them what to do - take it back and get a refund was the response. I asked them if they could test one and send it out to me - impossible as they have no testing facilities. Breville contacted the National Sales Manager and told me to get a refund. Clearly Breville are not interested in providing any customer service.

Terrible, save your money buy another brand and buy something cheaper.
Has never been right, pops up randomly all the time, whatever setting you use, toast is always either underdone or burnt and you have to stand beside it all the time to keep pushing it down again. You would think a toaster couldn't be that hard. terrible toaster don't buy.

Not only did it do a terrible job toasting (top raw / bottom burnt) but after a few months just randomly pops up whenever it wants - have to stand watch! Took it back to the store and thankfully David Jones allowed a refund rather than a replacement as by these other reviews it doesnt appear to be a once off issue.

We got this through our reward points but we have not been happy with it. The toast cooks quite unevenly and the timing seems to vary making it very hard to get an accurate cook. Our theory is that if you cancel the cooking time, the next time it only cooks for whatever time was remaining when you cancelled it. Very annoying. I think we will end up buying a new toaster.

This model has a SERIOUS design flaw - premature pop!
This toaster is unable to reliably complete a single cook. Purchased one a couple years back, and it was great for the first year, but 2 months out of warranty it would randomly prematurely pop. Extended warranty replacement, new one has the SAME ISSUE, only 2 days old! Never Again!

Unfortunately this toaster although cooks toast well takes forever to cook it. I put the toast in then go off and do things rather than stand around waiting. Would I buy another 1, not in a heart beat. I gave away my old 4 slice toaster as we didn't need something that big and downgraded to a 2 slice but also downgraded our quality. It almost appears the toaster is not functioning properly but if you adjust the setting it still takes a long time or doesn't cook it enough.

Bought this toaster and had problems with toast coming up early, returned to the place of purchase and they replaced. A few weeks after, the replacement toaster started doing the same thing and I'm now considering throwing it in the rubbish!
Have many Breville products and this one has left a poor impression as to the quality of the brand.

Toaster keeps popping up, it takes several attempts to have the bread stay down to toast. Toasts unevenly, now after 9 months of patience and persistence the toaster button is now jammed. We really liked the sleek lines and shape of the toaster, but we have been very disappointed in this product. Spend your money somewhere else.

Hi Breville Team, I did just that and purchased the Breville Smart Toast, which everyone in our home is loving. I submitted incorrectly too, I actually had the Breville 4 slice "Bit More" not the lift and look. Thanks again. Vans.
I bought this toaster from Harvey Norman 3 weeks ago. I decided to spend more than I usually would on a toaster because the description sounded so good.
This toaster dries out the toast (regardless of the setting) to the point that it is biscuit like. The elements work sporadically. Especially when we use frozen bread, it produces terrible results.
It IS a good looking toaster, but considering it functions so poorly, that pales into insignificance.
Harvey Norman is kindly accepting our return and I will be purchasing a different brand. Unfortunately I no longer trust any Breville toaster.

I am in my 50s so I have bought a lot and used a lot of toasters over the years and this is one is well worth the money. It toasts the bread evenly to the setting you set. It actually toasts crumpets perfectly when crumpet mode is selected (I must say the first toaster with crumpet mode that actually does this consistently) and the fruit bread is toasted perfectly also without burning when this mode is selected. Same applies to the frozen mode. Just to top it off the little bit more feature does just that. Just a tip that isn't spelt put ...
Read morethat clearly in the instructions - all those feature buttons and modes should be selected before the toast/crumpet or fruit bread is pushed down - it doesn't appear to work if they are already depressed into the toaster. Also the progress light feature is quite helpful when multi tasking.- Date Purchased
