The Bakery Boss BEM825

Can anyone tell me the weight of the glass bowl please? - I have a disability in which my hands are affected and I'm not able to head into a store to check it out. (Due to having a compromised immune system my drs are making me stay put in the house other than for medical/hospital appts, so I'm not likely to be able to get to a store any time soon to get a feel for it until the COVID-19 concerns ease up.) The glass bowl is my main hesitation so far in buying the newer model (BEM823) online right now as I've only used stainless steel bowls so far. And can you purchase a stainless steel bowl separately that works well with all the whisk, beater, etc attachments and what is the bowl's capacity and does it have a handle? I've read that with the BEM825 there were issues with tool attachments, etc not working well in the second stainless steel bowl. Many thanks!!

Hi PF - the glass bowl is very heavy and does take a bit of hand / wrist strength to lift. It does have a handle but I still think you may struggle - naturally it needs to be robust for beaters whizzing around in it so is made of thick glass. Wishing you all the best & hope you stay well in this uncertain climate - kind regards Kaye.

The bowl will be more than 2kg. My kitchen scales only go to 2kg and it’s got the error on it to say that it’s too heavy for measure.

Hi Kaye and Madeline. Thank you so much for your replies - very helpful info! Thanks Kaye for the well wishes. Wow, I hope your scale still works, Madeline. I guess I'm scrapping The Bakery Boss off my shortlist, which is a shame as I really liked it's overall features that would help with lessening the burden on some of the other aspects of my disability and chronic illnesses as well....if only the scraper pro twin hadn't been discontinued. I guess it's down to the Kenwood Chef Senser / Senser XL and KitchenAid Artisan. I'd prefer the Kenwood but I think the KitchenAid bowl will be easier to handle....Shall think on it for a few days. Thanks again, and I hope that you and your families are also able to remain well throughout this ongoing COVID uncertainty. Cheers, Priya :-)

Is there a small bowl and whisk compatible with the Ben 825bal to whisk cream and small amounts.

No. This machine's whisk does not reach the bottom of the bowl at all, so only larger amounts can be worked with. I couldn't whisk 4 egg whites for a pavlova. Breville's response - use a hand whisk.

Whats the difference between BEM 823 and 825? Is it just two bowls versus one or are they different machines?

They are exactly the same machine and you are correct that the only difference is the 2 bowls. I opted for the 825 to get the 2 bowls and can say I rarely use the glass bowl due to its size. The metal one is more convenient for my normal day to day baking. Haven’t had any of the issues with the metal bowl re disparity of distance between whisk and bottom of the bowl. Perfect mixer. You can easily purchase an additional bowl if needed from nearest breville factory outlet. They fit both machines.

Mr T.Breville

BEM800 Bowls are compatible with the BEM823 & 825, however all accessories have been optimized for use with the BEM823/825 Glass Bowl. Please also note BEM800 Accessories cannot be fitted to a BEM823/825.

Firstly I would like to comment that the Bakery Boss is brilliant using the glass bowl. However the smaller, stainless bowl, as has been stated many times above, sits around 1.5cm too low for the mixing attachments to work. I did read the response above from Breville regarding the machine needing to be looked at by the service agent but as the machine works well currently with the glass bowl any adjustment would then create an issue with the glass bowl.
Even though the machine works really well I have been disappointed as the smaller stainless bowl was the deciding factor that lead me to choose this machine. Just wondering if Breville are working on a fix?

Hi Bonnie. I don't know if Breville is working on a fix for stainless steel bowl issues. I use the glass bowl and just use the stainless bowl for mixing dry ingredients to add to whatever I am making in glass bowl. . I have just purchased the Freeze and Mix bowl to go with Bakery Boss, The stainless steel bowl is good for chilling ice cream mixture before it goes into the Freeze and Mix bowl. Cheers!

I too have resorted to just using the glass bowl which is fine except that I find it very heavy to hold up with one hand to pour and scrape cake batters into a baking tin. Anything that can be lifted out like bread dough or pizza dough is easy but holding up the glass bowl for any period of time I find difficult, especially with a heavy mix like a fruit cake. It is a very big bowl for those small jobs such as whipping a few egg whites or a small batch of icing and personally I would find the convenience of a second smaller bowl (that works in the machine) an asset. It is such a shame that a machine that works so well should be sold with such an obvious fault as one of the bowls being completely the wrong size to work effectively with the mixer.

You are right Franki, the machine works without it but I would have bought a different machine had I known the small stainless bowl was just going to hold ingredients and the only mixer that worked with it was me and my wooden spoon. :)

Gemma.U what machine did you have previously? I'm about to purchase one of these and i'm curious about the noise. Was it noisey in general or only when you added ingredients, or certain recipes? Thanks :-)

My previous machine which I had for over 10 years Breville BEM 410 and it was still working when I gave it away. I now have the Breville The Bakery Boss and find it absolutely wonderful I cannot understand why so many people have problems with kitchen appliances I am still using my Sunbeam quantum Bread machine more than 10 years old and in fact used it yesterday still working perfectly Best of luck

Hi. I purchased the Bakery Boss a few weeks ago can't express how happy it makes me. It is not noisy. It purrs! I call it my Lamborghini of appliances. Every thing it is designed for it does well. The controls and light are wonderful. Don't get those on the Kitchenaid! And it's beautiful!

Has anyone made ciabatta using the BEM825? I've just bought one and am a little worried that it isn't a strong enough motor to mix at the higher speed that's required. It seemed to struggle a bit so I ended up turning it off.

See page 3 of the Instruction Book. Do not operate heavy loads for more than 3 minutes.Maximum dough this machine can mix is 1000g flour plus 635g water for 7 minutes. tThe 825 is designed for fast easy mixing not prolong use at high speeds.

What is the weight of the BEM825?. I have seen a video review of the 820 (I think) and while I like the look of it I am worried by the way the head moves so much even at medium/low speed. Is the 825 heavier? What improvements have been made??

Hello julesb, I don't think I can answer your question. I have the bakery Boss BEM825 Sour Cherry. I have had it for a few months now and find it absolutely beautiful to use, no vibration or head movement. I suggest you contact Breville customer Service Centre PH.1300139798. Perhaps a visit to a large retailer and get the Salesperson to go through the finer details of both machines with you. Cheers
