First section covering 600sqm no problem. Second section 250sqm bubbly and rough
We sanded down a mezzanine floor last year and coated it with the oil based CFP, over 600 sqm, no problem, one coat, very smooth.
Did a floor expansion and new area only 250sqm, CFP application, heaps of bubbles and whole floor is extremely rough, same floor material. I
Purchased in September 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for A$220.00.

It's not clear! It makes the floor look dreadful.
Their is a stain running through this and what happens when you apply it to a kitchen floor as I did all the woods come up in a dark tint, looks disgusting! I had the rep out to look at the product the liquid in the tin is a darkish oily looking liquid which is certainly not clear! Could not get my point across to the rep who still maintained their is not staining or tinting going on, despite the observations i pointed out to him.

Absolute crap. Crap customer service too.
I have used Cabot’s for years as a Carpenter but not again. Did a floor like I did a 100 times before. Sanded back to bare timber, vacuumed and washed. Mixed CFP and hardener, first coat went on perfect. 12hrs later second coat caused first to bubble. So re did the whole process again but waited 24hrs for recoat and it did it again. Called Cabot’s and it was all blamed on me. Definitely not a bad batch or they would’ve heard about it by now. Made it clear I urgently want a rep to come out and have a look at this-we ripped out the entire kitchen ...Read more
and had to finish the floor ASAP for installation. After emails useless emails asking more details- for their “chemist” they disappeared. Well I went through the whole process and used Feast Watson with great results. Very unhappy with Cabot’s and they have now lost a $20-30 000.00 a year client due to their own pathetic staff.

Stairs
I have used cabots oil cfp off and on over the years in my previous handyman business and recently did my internal hardwood stairs never a problem.
My internal stairs i applied three coats matt finish the third with a hardner.
Before i did the first coat i sanded and cleaned the stairs and resanded by hand every section of the stairs and thoroughly cleaned and wiped .I allways had a clean towel to sit on while applying the coats and allways had clean socks on so as to not transfer any oils etc from your body.
Left 12hours between coats .I u...Read more

It's all in the prep work
I went to cabots after trying the intergrain floor product and found it hard to apply. It came up a excellent. The key to this product is prep work. the floor has to be clean and then clean again. Later I found out a friend had used this and it had bubbled within months. They used the wool mop and said they probably didn't clean it as much as they should have. I on the other hand did it all by 100mm professional quality brush. It did take a while to apply but the results are excellent and people always comment. I sanded lightly after the first ...Read more
coat to remove any roughness, and I applied 3 coats. I also used the mix in hardener. I applied on pine floors. There are 2 part floor floor finishes available, but these are much better suited to the hardwoods as if there is any flex ( as there is with pine) it will crack.1 comment

Awful results. Waste of time and money.
I took a week of work to strip and coat a mahogany parquet floor. Product is impossible to apply without orange peeling and streaks despite being applied at correct temperature. Very annoyed. Now have to move the family out again to recoat floor. I would not recommend this product to anyone unless I didn't like them much.

Good stuff
I often use this stuff and it always gets a good result and is very tough. Should last 10 years if done correctly.
Ignore most of these negative reviews, typical weekenders not doing a good job and then blaming the product for the poor result they get. Preparation is key.

Total waste of time and money
Bought the oil based because it's meant to be more durable.. spent over a week doing our floors only to have it covered in scratches within the month.. scratch resistant shouldn't even be put on the product... It will cost me more than it's worth because now we have to redo our floors.

Tough and long lasting finish
I've used this oil based finish 3 times. First time was on a Jarrah floored house - the result was spectacular & it did a good job bringing out all the colours and grain of the timber. Didn't use the hardener which we were to regret a little bit later. Second time, with hardener on our current pine timber floored house and bamboo bench top. Looks fabulous & seriously, no scratches at all, even after 4 years now.
Only downside is the smell, which also hangs around for quite a few weeks.

Difficult to use
I much prefer Feast Watson Floorclear. Flows and self levels much, much, much better.
I will never use this Cabots product again, as it's grabby and won't flow well.
It lasts well yes but Feast Watson will give you a much better finish without the heartache.

The best floor product I've used
I had my hardwood floors professionally fine sanded 18 years ago. I then applied 3 coats of CFP floor oil based gloss with the hardener added. The passageway, dining room and lounge still look beautiful, The kitchen has some wear but it needs recoating as some cabinets have been moved. I think 18 years is fantastic value.
Reasonably quick to do and many years of pleasure.
Skintastic dripped on kitchen floor dissolved the coating overnight but hardly Cabot's fault.

No ideaasked
We did our lounge room we have a small house and it is in the middle of our home we have small kids and 2 Small dogs what is the absolute least amount of time we can move our furniture back and have the dogs inside if it’s more than 3 days is there a faster drying/ curing clear coat we could use we have just put a oil on the wood to stain to a darker colour

Leah P.Cabot's
Hi there,
Thanks for your question. For all of our flooring coatings, it is a 7 day curing process. This is the reason as to why we recommend waiting 7 days before replacing any furniture. As you will run the risk of damaging/indenting the coating if furniture is replaced before this time.
Unfortunately if you have used an Oil based stain, there is no other top coat you can apply that will give you a quicker dry time.
Please give us a call on 1800 011 006 so we can discuss this further with you.

Is sanding required between coats of CFP oil based?

We do recommend sanding in between coats using 240 grit sandpaper.
This will ensure you have the best possible finish!

Good morning,
Sometimes air bubbles can occur and dry in the coating if the can has been shaken prior to applying the coating, over working the coating when applying it to the flooring, or if the can has been stirred too vigorously.... Read more
Good news is with a little bit of work; this can be rectified. We recommend giving the flooring a sand to even out the air bubbles. This may require starting with a coarser grade sandpaper, before finishing with a fine grade sandpaper. Making sure to remove all sanding dust. Take care when stirring the can of CFP to ensure no air bubbles are introduced. If you see any air bubbles in the can, give it some time to stand to allow these air bubbles to dissipate. Then apply another one or two coats of the product. We would love to discuss this further with you.
