Heartbreaking result.

published

Ruined. 4 weekends I slaved, sanding and restoring my 50 year old cypress pine floor. I chose all water based materials and all from Cabots. One coat of walnut stain, beautiful. Easy to apply, consistent result, very happy. One coat of CFP made it look like crap-on-a-stick. I was elated. The second looks like crap-on-a-stick. It is cloudy, streaky, and I'm devastated. It was easy to apply, and went down consistently, but it has left the floor looking like cheap recycled laminate.
@cabots: don't respond, you have nothing to say to me. You've ruined my backbreaking work. I have to start again, using Feast Watson products.

White cloudy spots on our floorboards

published

Disappointed with this product. White cloudy patches formed on our floorboards. Used the walnut stain as the base. Had to resand and apply stain to get rid of patches. Will be using a different product to gloss them. Very disappointed at the time and money spent. Wish I read reviews before purchasing this tin.

Total waste of time and money

published

Bought the oil based because it's meant to be more durable.. spent over a week doing our floors only to have it covered in scratches within the month.. scratch resistant shouldn't even be put on the product... It will cost me more than it's worth because now we have to redo our floors.

Great product

We had an old house re stumped the floors were patched with Virgin floorboards from the bedroom. So some of the boards had an old two pack coating. We know because it was the devil to remove. The water based CFP went on very easily alight hand sand before the last coat and it has come up brilliantly considering the age of the Baltic Pine and the couple of duffers using it.

Tough and long lasting finish

published

I've used this oil based finish 3 times. First time was on a Jarrah floored house - the result was spectacular & it did a good job bringing out all the colours and grain of the timber. Didn't use the hardener which we were to regret a little bit later. Second time, with hardener on our current pine timber floored house and bamboo bench top. Looks fabulous & seriously, no scratches at all, even after 4 years now.

Only downside is the smell, which also hangs around for quite a few weeks.

Difficult to use

I much prefer Feast Watson Floorclear. Flows and self levels much, much, much better.
I will never use this Cabots product again, as it's grabby and won't flow well.
It lasts well yes but Feast Watson will give you a much better finish without the heartache.

The best floor product I've used

published

I had my hardwood floors professionally fine sanded 18 years ago. I then applied 3 coats of CFP floor oil based gloss with the hardener added. The passageway, dining room and lounge still look beautiful, The kitchen has some wear but it needs recoating as some cabinets have been moved. I think 18 years is fantastic value.
Reasonably quick to do and many years of pleasure.
Skintastic dripped on kitchen floor dissolved the coating overnight but hardly Cabot's fault.

Does its job!

published

Bought this at bunnings and chose it over the oil-based version as it doesn't require sanding. I applied two coats and so far so good. The product has dried well after 12 hours and the coating has adhered well to the unsanded cork surface. Would use product again, if just to strengthen the surface. It looks milky coming out from the can but after drying, it's all clear. For what I paid for, happy with the end result.

Edit: After almost 3 years now, I must say that the product hasn't aged well. In areas with heavy traffic, you could clearly see that the coating has worn off. Also scratches quite easily. Only use for a low traffic area.
economical solution to protecting the floor, easy to use.
deep marks or scratches would still be visible

CFP Floor Oil Based

We did our lounge room we have a small house and it is in the middle of our home we have small kids and 2 Small dogs what is the absolute least amount of time we can move our furniture back and have the dogs inside if it’s more than 3 days is there a faster drying/ curing clear coat we could use we have just put a oil on the wood to stain to a darker colour

Hi there,

Thanks for your question. For all of our flooring coatings, it is a 7 day curing process. This is the reason as to why we recommend waiting 7 days before replacing any furniture. As you will run the risk of damaging/indenting the coating if furniture is replaced before this time.

Unfortunately if you have used an Oil based stain, there is no other top coat you can apply that will give you a quicker dry time.

Please give us a call on 1800 011 006 so we can discuss this further with you.
Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST.

Thanks, Team Cabot's

CFP Floor Oil Based

Is sanding required between coats of CFP oil based?

Leah P.Cabot's

Hi Max,

We do recommend sanding in between coats using 240 grit sandpaper.
This will ensure you have the best possible finish!
