Purchased in March 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for A$90.00.

Hi John,

Unfortunately we do not have a recommended coating system for compressed concrete decking.
I suggest to reach out to the manufacturer of the product and see their recommended coating system.

If you would like to discuss this further, or need any advice on an up-coming project, give our Help & Advice team a call on 1800 011 006. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST.

Deck & Exterior Stain Oil Based

Hi I have a deck that’s been painted with a oil base it takes to long to dry . It needs painted again so is it ok to use a water base this time as it won’t take as long to dry.

Hi Vee,

You certainly can move on to use a water based coating if you wish. Just follow the preparation steps below;

Clean with Cabot's Deck Clean following label instructions, then allow timber to fully dry.
Test if the surface is ready for coating by sprinkling water on the timber. It the water beads on the surface, repeat the application of Cabot's Deck Clean - or allow the timber to be weather for a little longer.
If water is absorbed into timber, it is ready for coating. For a more transparent look, sand timber back to bare then clean with Cabot's Deck Clean before coating.

If you have any other questions, give us a call on 1800 011 006. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST.

Deck & Exterior Stain

Hi, I have used Cabots deck stain water based for my weathered timber deck. 2 coats applied under good weather conditions. Would like to know how soon can I walk on it and how long would it generally have a tackiness. Thanks

Hi Vis,

Thanks for your question.
The Water based Deck and Exterior Stain can be walked on a minimum of 8 hours after the final coat.
However, taking the cooler weather into consideration - you may want to add a few extra hours on to this as our quoted dry times are based on temperatures of 25 degrees with 50% humidity.

The decking can retain some tackiness, and this can be common when the weather is particularly cooler or water - when moisture gets trapped in between the coating, this is when the coating can retain some tackiness.
Generally though, after about 7 days when the coating is fully cured, the moisture will evaporate and the tackiness should go away.
If you are finding that the coating is still tacky after 7 days or if you have any other questions, please give us a call on 1800 011 006 so we can discuss this further with you.
Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST.

Cheers - Team Cabot's.
