Update:
There's no option for me to directly respond to the Cabots rep. so I'm leaving a second review.
I spent 3 hours sanding off this disgusting product. I though readers might want to see what a nasty result you'll get with this product.
I love how the Cabots rep took pains to explain why their product stains wood so badly and somehow believes that because this info in barried online in their website that the product is not falsely labeled and thus grossly misleading. Way to avoid responsibility and dodge the facts. Won't be buying or recommending any Cabots products in the future!
Purchased in November 2021.

Gross orange colour
Glad I used this product on a test area before using it on my project. Turned my light toned hardwood yellow orange. Nothing like my intention when buying their ‘New natural’ clear oil. Nothing clear about it. Has a very very distinct orange colour. Annoyed I spent money on it as I’ll never have a use for turning wood this colour. I feel like this product is misleading in its marketing.
Purchased in January 2021 for A$40.00.

Oils ain't oils
This popular product is really more like an acryllic varnish. It coats the timber rather than "oils" it.
The brochure states "Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil Water Based is a highly durable, low odour exterior oil. It is designed to provide exceptional durability to garden furniture, BBQ
trolleys and benches and lasts longer than traditional garden furniture oils. Garden Furniture Oil Water Based's advanced dual technology allows natural oils
to penetrate and nourish the timber, then creates a durable acrylic barrier for a beautiful natural fi...Read more
nish." The amount of penetrating oil is not stated but it appears to be a very small proportion of the product such that calling it "oil" is somewhat euphemistic. Being a coating, it lasts quite well, but once deterioration occurs it needs to be sanded off before recoat, unlike true oils which need minimal recoat preparation but perhaps more often.

Hi Ken,
Get some warm water with a mild detergent, use a non abrasive cloth, and with a little bit of elbow grease the Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil should come off.
Cheers!

This product is not a clear oil - it is lightly pigmented. The light pigment is designed to enhance the natural colour of the timber - but due to the light pigment, it can make blonder timbers have that orange or yellow tone. The reason we do not have clear oils in the Cabot's range, is due to the pigment/colour being the component of the oil which provides the protection from Australia’s harsh UV. Screening out UV helps to protect the timber surface, and prevent degradation. A clear & colourless oil would provide no protection against UV degradation. No protection from UV will mean the timber will go grey within months and begin to degrade. The longer a coating can screen out UV, the longer it will hold onto its water protection and wear resistance. If you would like to give us a call on 1800 011 006, we would like to help find you a suitable coating for your timber project. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST. Cheers - Team Cabot's
