It does the job, likely to long laster than decking oil

    published

I have a treated pine deck over which I applied Cabot's Aquadeck decking oil. Only in hindsight did I realise that this water based decking oil is less suitable for lightly pigmented timber such as treated pine, and the result was a stark "orange" coloured stained deck. I gradually got used to the colour, but after a year I decided to paint over it using an outdoor paint. I used Cabot's timbercolour deck and exterior paint, and painted the deck "mission brown". Colourwise, it looks much more acceptable, even though you can no longer see the timber grooves. At the moment, i am happy with the result.

    Hey.
I made an outdoor dance stage using compressed fibro sheets & used builders bog to help smooth the gaps & fill the screw holes so it was a seemless floor to avoid catching on joins while dancing/sliding. My cabots decking paint, (which looks amazing) for some reason after a day has got a wet look & slight tacky/sticky feeling over all places the bog is on.
The bog was done the day before painting & completely sanded the next day and was complete solid & dry.
May i ask what has caused the paint to do this and any suggestion to fix this problem?

It is now day 7 after painting. The deck paint surface is still sticky and slippery. Not good for a deck. The temperature is cooler but no rain so I will give it another 2 days. I too think that we should be warned about complete drying time. Any suggestions as to how to help the slipperyness. This needs to be fixed as it is a real safety issue.

Possibly look into surfactant leaching.. i just found that to be my issue with mine being sticky.. when hosed it off a soapy like foam came up... solution is letting it weather naturally (if its outside deck)

Just annoying that the product does Not perform as purposed. Expensive paint and substandard performance with such a long during time. Would have been better to use normal paint and a handful of sand as in days of old. Thank you for your suggestion.

Allan dong you said it filled in the groves, if the timber had groves it was put on upside down, the groves go on the bottom to stop water getting raped and rotting you deck

    Hi John,

The Timbercolour Deck and Exterior Paint is a fully opaque paint that will hide the timber's natural grain.
But it will not hide or "fill" the grooves in the timber.
