I have a 2011 C4 Exclusive E HDI semi automatic. Love the car, everything about it suits our family needs perfectly and for long runs I've never been more comfortable in any car I've owned before. Now a problem has arisen. The stereo has lost it's voice. The central screen is working, the radio etc come on and display what's playing but no sound at all. I am not technically minded at all and do not want to fiddle for fear of making things worse.
Does anyone have any idea of what this could be. It's the Denon system with the big old sub-woofer in the boot?

Sorry, can't help but does your car have an on board diagnosis system? If not a mechanic or mechanically minded friend could use a multi meter type unit to plug into your cars electrical system and diagnose the fault. It should not be too expensive.
Sounds like a software problem.

Hello i have a 2007 c4 auto and its goes very well but sometimes when i slow down to stop and but the break on to stop it gives me a jerk like I'm towing a trailer and it's pushed the back of the car. Sort of like it's going out of gear then back in with a jerk. I have had RACV look at it and they couldn't find anything neither can my machanic. Is it normal for these cars to do that sometimes.

Hi,
I have a C4 Exclusive from 2011. I would like to disassemble the original rear mirror in order to attach a camera mirror. I need to disassemble the plastic cover that is near the front windshield. I went to the local Citroen garage, but they didn't know how to do it. These are two plastic covers that needs to be separated. How is it best to be done without making any damage?

Well at 42,000 km you have obviously broken your car in
as the engine wears in it will be drinking more petrol
yet any other thing I can say is maybe you're getting caught in a lot of traffic jams in the city which increases your fuel consumption.

it's a 6-year-old car? do you think that it should operate like you just drove it out of the showroom?
You will come to the realisation that Citroens are crap
you are out of warranty, and on your own, the people who sold you this car are despicable and these French cars are a joke
we Aussies look to foreign-made cars for some type of self actualisation and prestige which doesn't exist.
What to do with your banger?
Leave it parked outside a supermarket with the keys in the ignition, and hopefully someone will take it off your hands, and you can claim it on your insurance.
More than likely it will sit in the car park for several days and some nice socially minded person will contact you and let you know they found the car.
These cars stick to you like mud, and unfortunately they are a millstone around your neck
put all this down to experience and go to a Buddhist retreat

Firstly, I strongly disagree with the comments made above by 'boru' in regards to this comment "French cars are a joke we Aussies look to foreign-made cars for some type of self actualisation and prestige which doesn't exist" which is totally ridiculous and untrue, because Citroen is like a Holden in France!!! I've owned and been driving the Citroen C4's series 1 and 2 since 2006 and I've very rarely had any problems! Secondly, I've got a 2012 C4 Exclusive eHDi/6spd EGS and I've done over 250,000 km's with these vehicle and I've never ever had your problems (and I do have GPS and all the sensors) with and in my vehicles.

I strongly recommend that 'You Don't Try to Fix These Problems Yourself" I would suggest that you take this vehicle to either a Citroen dealer (highly recommended) and/or to an auto electrician, that has either a LEXIA 3, i970 iCarsoft or the TOAD multi diagnostic system so that he/they can diagnose your problem, these vehicles are computer controlled and you cant just diagnose then without this tool, as this tool has to be plugged into the OBD2 plug (that is under the Air Con controls) and this tool will diagnose and give you all the error codes. This is how modern vehicles are ALL diagnosed and there is no magic button that you press to fix them.

Hi Steve thanks for your tips. I don’t plan on leaving the car at the supermarket and nor will I join a Buddhist retreat. We are planning to take it to an auto electrician. All the best

Steve

On my 2012 Citroen C4 Exclusive eHDi EGS 6spd the 'Eco' mode can be turned off by a button on the dash, I've got no idea how it's done on the C3 but, I presume that its the same? In saying this, I don't think that the 'Eco' mode being on (as it can be turned off) has anything to do with your vehicle not being able to be started. Your problem could be related to many things e.g. battery power and alternator being faulty and not charging your battery, starter motor that could be faulty and many other electrical wiring, plugs etc matters, which are some of the main culprits of your problem. Do you have any battery power? Is the vehicles battery power, completely dead? Is the starter motor kicking over? And if it does, the starter motor could be faulty etc all these things could affect the starting of your vehicle. If you are a DIY person and are mechanically literate then, you could purchase a C3 'Citroen iCarsoft i970 Multi System Diagnostic Tool'.

You can see this tool at this web site:
http://www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/citroen_code_readers_189130-z=563759&p=64215.cfm#content_item_64215

And you can also buy the eManualOnline workshop manual that has also the electrical circuitry diagrams and their positioning for the Citroen C3 from this site:
https://www.emanualonline.com/Cars/Citroen/C3.htm

The iCarsoft i970 diagnostic tool is specifically designed to analyse your vehicles computer and will tell you, all the faults of your vehicle and will specifically tell you the exact problem(s) that could be related to your starting problems. This is how the Citroen dealers diagnose these problems and use a more complicated factory computerised diagnostic tool. You also, have not specifically stated the exact related problem(s) of your fault, as just saying that the 'Citroen C3, it is in mod eco, I can not start my car' is very vague and not descriptive enough so, please can you be more specific, as there are allot of variables to your problem that could affect the starting of your vehicle. Hope this helps!

Your problem could be with the 'Heater Control Unit' which is controlled by a cable that must be faulty, the cable controls this system and is a part of the heating system. Have it checked by a Citroen dealer as the whole system is very complex and it cannot be serviced by yourself. I’ve got the complete workshop manual for the Citroen C4 and it’s a very complex system and cannot be diagnosed to one specific thing as there are many complex parts to this systems and cannot be pointed to one specific thing. For example, there are many components to this system which are as follows: AIR CONDITIONED COMPRESSOR, AIR OUTLET, AIR PULLER-AIR ENTRY-MODULE-REDUCER, CONDENSER, EVAPORATOR, FREON TUBE, HEATER AND WATER HOSES, HEATER CONTROL, HEATER DETAIL and REGULATOR HOUSING AND PROBES which are the components of this system. I suggest that you have it diagnosed by a Citroen dealer as it cannot be specifically pointed to one thing and it should be diagnosed by your Citroen dealer. Hope this helps you, cheers.

Hi, I bought a second hand 2008 Citroen C4 1.6 HDi recently, 2 months now. Im having a new troubles with it:
I had battery failure week ago, car didn't start. So I had replaced the battery. Since then the stereo isn't working. I can only connect my phone via bluetooth but its only for calls. I can see power is coming to the stereo but in its menu the music section is grayed out. Can anyone please advice what to do?

Try to take the stereo fuse out and replug it back so, it reboots it. The fuse is in the glovebox. This is not a fault with the stereo unit. As the Bluetooth is goverened by the stereo unit, this will fix that too. Try also to pair your bluetooth as that could solve your bluetooth problems.

Have you checked that the radiator is not leaking and/or one of its cores is not stone damaged? Check all the cores of the radiator and/or the hoses that link into the engine, also, check the water pump that its functioning properly and there is no leakage coming from the gasket (look carefully with a torch at the left side of the engine (as you look at the engine from the front). Also, check if there is any water leakage apparent (overnight) on the ground where you have parked your vehicle? There are allot of variables, hoses and hose clamps that could be leaking and/or have deteriorated in the cooling system in your C4's system also, which could be the cause(s) of your problem and that is why you should have it checked by a Citroen dealer, who has all the equipment, like pressure testers and he has much more expertise to find this problem(s) quicker.

When should a timing belt be changed in our C4 Picasso Diesel which has done 130kms?

2 answers
Charlie
Charlie

In accordance with Citroen France under bad conditions 180 -190 000 kilometres. Under good conditions (well maintained car) 240 000 kilometres.
For some reason Citroen Australia services recommend/suggest 120 000 kilometres. Keep in mind the way you drive has a bearing ie Hard acceleration will wear belt earlier, this tends to stretch the belt/chain. (A few things to consider). If you change a belt/Chain earlier good if you want to keep car for longer period?

Steve
Steve

I've got a C4 Mk2 2012 e-HDi and the recommended 'timing belt' change is 100,000 Km. I don't know where people get 240k or 180-190-k, its not correct. If you have 130k's on your timing belt, get it replaced asap as it could snap. One other thing that you could do, is inspect the timing belt yourself and see if the belt has cracks or has a dried rubber look to it, if it has, get the timing belt replaced, urgently!!! The cost for timing belt only is about $575 and $1000 for timing belt and water pump, this is at a Citroen dealer.

C4 Mk.2 (2011-2018)

We bought a 2011 Citroen C4 and within 7 weeks of purchase we took it to a European specialist for service. Within two weeks of service the radiator kept emptying over night. Took it back to the same mechanic once alerts started appearing and discoverd radiator cap was cracked and popped off. New cap was supplied and coolant refilled. Next day drove to Gold Coast and car alerts came up saying to stop car, engine fault, get service. Daughter ignored because when she slowed down alerts disappeared and since we just had it at mechanics it had to be fine. Car went into idle and whole engine overheated and died. Had whole engine replaced. Everything under honey New except for gearbox. Three days after pickibg it up from new mechanic the exact same thing happened. No coolant same alerts but this time stopped immediately so engine wouldn't overheat. Mechanic is perplexed as to why this would happen. Any ideas?

After about 18 months from new my C4 began intermittently running as if it was overheating. The thermostat seemed to be unreliable. It would kick in with a cool engine, and then stay running long after switching the engine off. Eventually I had the thermostat replaced and for four months all was fine. Now it has started the same symptoms again though with no indication the engine is over heating, It even starts running after driving a mile or so. How come with a brand new replacement? Could something else be triggering this?

Yeah it also could be the radiator in which case a radiator specialist might be able to help you or perhaps the thermostat had wrecked up again or it could even be a electrical problem in which case a hyandai Australia workshop or a auto electrician shop might be able to help you further
