Have you tried the 'fuse'??? Power related issues should be firstly checked at the fuse and then diagnosed through the wiring.

C4 Mk.1 (2005-2011)

After about 18 months from new my C4 began intermittently running as if it was overheating. The thermostat seemed to be unreliable. It would kick in with a cool engine, and then stay running long after switching the engine off. Eventually I had the thermostat replaced and for four months all was fine. Now it has started the same symptoms again though with no indication the engine is over heating, It even starts running after driving a mile or so. How come with a brand new replacement? Could something else be triggering this?

Yeah it also could be the radiator in which case a radiator specialist might be able to help you or perhaps the thermostat had wrecked up again or it could even be a electrical problem in which case a hyandai Australia workshop or a auto electrician shop might be able to help you further

Hi K - First go for the simplest possible solution. Double check your installation of the new door lock/switch mechanism. Then cycle ALL your security systems. If this doesn't correct the problem. Try going through the computer reboot process (if you dont know what this is check on line - it involves a set sequence of shutting down the vehicle, disconnecting the battery, reconnection and time). New to this was wanting to comment on Dave B review, by blocking off the valve has it also helped with the sudden lose of power as well? A seriously considering doing this to mine! I've owned my citroen for 4 years and have only been able to drive it for a total of 12months, and that's not even consecutive months!

Hi, The answer is that no, it won't help with the sudden loss of power you get when the anti-pollution system does a burn. What removing the EGR valve and replacing it with a blank does is to stop the kangarooing and shuddering.
Since I wrote my last piece, the car ran well for about 3,000kms, then it got stuck in the "burn" mode. My wife and I had to drive what was a dangerous vehicle (as you will know!). It's now been repaired again. A "DPF" sensor wasn't working and this had apparently caused the sensor pipe and additive supply pipe to melt. All of these had to be replaced. As I've said previously, I'm out of pocket by thousands of dollars and whilst my latest Citroen mechanic seems to be able to fix things as they occur, I object to having to drive a dangerous vehicle and Citroen have not offered to help with cost of what seems to me to be a basic design problem.

It seems like you need to take the car to a Citroen Australia workshop or a mechanical repairs workshop to possibly help you

Dave B, Citroen dealers are very helpful and/or reasonable with problems like yours, even though they are out of warranty. Citroen want your business as they do mine. Don't take any vehicle to a so called European and/or Citroen expert. All the new Citroens have to have specialist equipment and diagnostic units to diagnose problems and to service them! I have owned the Citroen C4's since its come to Australia in 2006, I have owned the Mk1 which was a Exclusive-Auto-Petrol and Mk2 C4's which I'm driving at the moment and its a 2012-Exclusive-eHDi-EGR-Diesel. I've never ever had any major problems with any of them. The current C4 eHDi-EGR has 130,000Kms and its running like new. Yes the EGR 6sp is a very bad design and useless box but, I use the paddles and drive it in 'Manual" mode most of the time but, I have the choice of using the 'Auto' which makes it into a snail lol seriously, I've only had some niggling problems with a cracked windshield, that cracked for no apparent reason and a leaking air con internal hose, on the Mk1 which were all fixed/replaced under warranty by a Citroen dealer for free. I've never ever had any problems with the C4 Mk2 and its an exceptionally economical vehicle and does everything that is required of a city vehicle with exceptional touring abilities.

Steve

What model C4 have you got??? I had a windscreen crack with my C4 Mk1 2006 model Exclusive, it cracked (for no apparent reason) at the bottom on the passenger side. It was replaced by the dealer. But never had your problem after replacement. The white circles could be condensation (if you use the air con all the time) and the windscreen sealant wasn't done properly (or was faulty) when the new windscreen was installed. Have it checked by a windscreen specialist and either get it repaired or get advice. This could entail, taking the screen out and resealing it at a cost of $200.00 plus.

I am thinking about buying a second hand 2008 Citreon C4 Privaledge auto 5 door petrol with leather interiors and parking sensors. This is my first car purchase and am worried if anything happens the parts will be expensive to replace- is this still the case even if I get them changed at a Citroen dealer? The car is $6,500- Is it worth it or should I hold out for something like a Mitsubishi or Mazda?

Part prices are no dearer than Mazda, Volkmswagen etc. ebay from the UK for most things for even better value. I would still have it serviced at an independent European car specialist yet any mechanic could do the basic oil change etc. Do the timing belt every 4 years or 100,000km which ever comes first. Change the AL4 auto fluid every 50,000kms or 2years (plus brake fluid & radiator coolant) I've no issues in nearly 3 years since I bought mine 2nd hand. Most reliable car I've actially ever owned. Friends still comment on it's good looks & nice leather. I would buy another without hesitation.

Hi bee. I did find the parts to be more expensive, but not excessively so than the Japanese cars. It is more of a question of availability. I accidentally broke the rear wiper arm trying to remove and replace the blade with one I bought from eBay and when I went into Citroen in Prahran they said there wasn't a part in the entire country and I had to wait minimum 2 weeks for it to come from France via boat.

After the terrible experience I had taking mine to a small workshop I would strongly suggest that you only ever take it to a Citroen dealership. The brakes were quite expensive in my opinion ($920 for parts alone for all discs and pads) and $780 to replace the water pump and timing belt in my diesel.

It's up to you. They are very lovely cars. I sold mine 8 months ago and I still miss it.

Mine has been the most reliable car. Love the features and the style. Like any car ensure it has had all it services up to date plus get the transmission fluid changed every 80k even though they are meant to be sealed for life. Great buying second hand so well worth the enjoyment

I presume that when you say a '2005 C4' is a built in 2005 model? As the C4 was only released in Australia in 2006! The Mk1 C4 is a great vehicle if its a manual, if its an auto then you could have some 'clunking and banging' problems as the auto box is part swap off a Peugeot 306 box and they are a very noisy box. I owned a 2006 C4/Exclusive auto petrol 2.0 litre and I had gearbox 'clunking and banging' problems (under the drivers seat) that was very apparent and it felt like someone was booting me up my backside with it. This is a common problem with Citroens, their auto boxes are useless and are not a good option especially with the new EGS 6sp and you should only consider a manual box Citroen (if you can drive a manual) as they are the better option. I've done over 250,000kms with both the Mk1 and 2 C4's and they are a very economical and an excellent touring vehicle but, I suggest that a manual box option is better than an auto box option.

Hi
We love the fuel economy and comfort of the car, the only downside is it sometimes gets confused on gear changes in hilly terrain.
Easily compensated by driving in manual.
All together still very happy after 17000km's

jinandfonic
jinandfonic

No problem, like any car just insure it's been serviced on time with a major service completed at 100,000km including a renewal of the automatic gearbox fluid (expensive oil!) they are a strong & reliable car that's enjoyable to drive with handy hi-tech features. Enjoy your search.

DrBob737
DrBob737

When I use standard unleaded 91 octane fuel I get 7.6 litres/100km and when I go to a Freedom Independant petrol station and use their 98 Octane Premium fuel I get 6.5litres/100km. That is on 70% highway driving and I am a little heavy on the pedal cruising at 113km on a 110km highway Goldcoast. Easy in city traffic no speeding and /or charging off at the lights. I use the Premium most times now.
