Best Value by Far
We have had an annual policy for many years with Columbus, and even had a small claim which went through seamlessly, so of course when we wanted a policy to cover a 4 month holiday, Columbus was our first stop. Of course we checked others, but Columbus was the best by far.

Excellent price & cover
Columbus Direct online site was easy to navigate and cost & coverage offered were very good. They cover pre-existing conditions (at an extra cost.. but necessary for us) & natural disasters. We have now changed from our 'regular' Travel Insurance Provider to Columbus Direct. Have not made any claims, but have had to call their Sydney office and they were very helpful, answered questions etc etc. .. and no long on-hold queue :-) Only downside was that it only operates Mon-Fri 9-5

Perfect for my needs
I like it for that fact its offered for non resident. Value for money. Easy to understand the policy. Took out twice and like the loyalty discount offered. Love it!!!

Very helpful staff
I have been a member now for 2 years but have yet to make a claim so not sure how good they are until that time.
The policy has everything I wanted with the usual restrictions as other policies.
So far so good
recommended but read the small print.

Essential for Travelling
Competitive pricing for a high level of coverage. Have had an annual premium policy for a number of years. Very simple process to arrange for a policy. Excellent customer service.

Wouldn't leave the country without it!
Have decided it is too risky to continue to rely on credit card insurance given there are so many loopholes in most policies that make claiming and receiving a benefit too risky. The Columbus policy is clear on what is covered and when and gives you the option to drop coverage or pay for coverage for existing medical conditions up front. i opted to pay up front for a couple of minor health things that i take medication for. A couple of hundred dollars well spent if something were to happen and it hadn't been declared up front to the credit card based insurers. Hoping I'll never have to make a claim but confident that Columbus will come through if I do.

Staff are amazing
It pays to call and not purchase online as I was unaware that if your cruising to PNG you must put Asia not PNG as you wouldn’t be covered for cruise

Good travel insurance at a good price

Would Hate To Die
As with all people travelling overseas, we took out a travel insurance policy. It was easily set up and details provided and premium taken.
Then we went off, it was supposed to be just a holiday - but legislation changed and we turned it into a honeymoon. Very exciting that we could finally marry, so off to the US we headed.
Thats when we get to the US and it is COLD. Not just cold, FREEZING. Just freezing. Average temperature in Washington DC and New York was 0. Not the weather we are quite used to in Melbourne.

usband - who normally embraces the cold (he grew up in Ballarat) got sick. Not just a little man flu - he ended up being diagnosed with Influenza-B. Yes full blown flu and you know, it was killing people around Australia in 2017, but that was irrelevant. So the last week we travelled to Vegas as per our itinerary. This is where his symptoms first appeared, it wasn't anything special but 24-36 hours in I had need to ring the Emergency Assistance line as we could not regulate his temperature. I had really no idea what to do, this was the first time I had ever seen him sick in the 5 years we had been together. So I ring the Assistance line (in the UK) and that was the start of the ordeal. Useless, what a joke - couldn't assist me at all. He wasn't in a position to move, but you know I thought they may have a contact locally? But no, just ring someone. Excellent value for money
After examining many different policies, I found that Columbus Direct was the best value for money. The rental car excess was adequately covered and the policy did not discriminate regarding my age.

They are still processing a simple claim 5 months later
We were travelling Canada and I called the company the day after we had all of our ski and snowboard gear and our savings for the end of the season stolen and we were told they would send me information through email on how to claim for this and I had to ring up a second time to receive the actual form to fill out and find out what we needed to send through to them. We were told we needed to send proof of purchase for the items and the form but were not specific that this all had to be in hard-copy so we originally scanned all of this and sent ...Read more
it online but after a week found out that we had to send it by mail. After doing this we called up to find out how long the claim would take to process once they received this form and all of the receipts for the gear and we were told it would be completely processed within 5 working days of being received. What a load of bull that was since it is now 5 months later and the claim is still being processed. This has completely ruined our season since I had to end my employment as a ski instructor early due to not having any equipment and could not enjoy the last month of free skiing because we could not afford to buy all new gear. My boyfriend also had to end his employment early since he was working on the mountain aswell and we were both living off those wages and could not afford to buy all new equipment. Since the end of April when we sent the claim through they have asked for more information from us 3 times, the first time was a month after we originally sent through the claim. We had to cut our holiday short since we could not afford to stay there as long as we had planned without the money we had saved and since we had to stop working early. We have also now returned to Australia and were unable to enjoy the ski season here even since we haven't received any compensation yet and again could not afford to buy all new gear especially here in Australia where everything snow related is much more expensive. So many times we have contacted them and not received any reply and I actually called them once and was told that they were supposed to call me for more information but it no one was on top of it. It has been the worst organisation of processing this claim and I am faster at replying to their emails when this is their job and I have my own job working full time. Great Value
I have used Columbus Travel Insurance for my last three holidays as their policies are so much cheaper than anyone else. I cannot comment on the claim process as I have been fortunate enough to not need to make a claim.

Hi Jenni,
The price displayed on our online quotes is the total price for the number of travellers entered. So when requesting a quote for 2 people, the price displayed is the total price for both.
It’s worth noting that our policy cover limits and excesses apply per person. For Annual Multi-trip policies each adult is considered separately insured, and so you don’t have to be on the same trip for cover to apply.

I have insured with you in the past. I am now 60yrs old with diabetes Type 1 and multiple sclerosis, with no admissions to hospital for more than 30 yrs. Can I still be covered if I wish to take out a policy?

I have previously had a policy with you. Now I have reached 60yrs, with both Type 1 diabetes & MS am I able to purchase travel insurance? I have not been in hospital for more than 30yrs & am well.
