Great performance suv tyre - but maybe not the best allrounder?
Used these for their full life and come away with mixed feelings on them. They are an expensive premium tyre that I think suit a performance SUV that isn't too hard on its tyres but does compromise in other areas.
Tyre Life - I got almost 60 000km on my X3 with 90% road (mostly highway),10% gravel driving with regular pressure checks and would count that as good, but not great for this car. If you have a heavy and less balanced SUV or 4WD, and are mainly concerned about tyre life then this maybe isn't the tyre for you. Also had a few punctures...Read more
, including a mysterious sidewall puncture on road which could not be repaired, so would not count these as a serious durable off-road tyre. Performance - This is where these tyres shined - outstanding. Never had a traction issue or felt less than secure in any condition - dry, wet, cornering or breaking. At times even surprised at the short breaking distances and cornering traction. Overall balance a bit understeery but safe, rolling resistance was very low. Offroad - As a 10% off-road tyre it handled the job well with good traction on loose surfaces such as gravel, grass and sand. Must say that grip dropped away markedly once the tread had mostly gone. Comfort & Noise - As a performance tyre these were not the most comfortable or quiet tyres you can get. Fine on very smooth roads, but a bit loud and harsh on the typical Australian tarmac. Dropping pressures a little helped the ride a bit but they also became noisier as the tread wore down.Purchased in August 2021 at JAX Tyres for $260.00.

They are are great tyre
I have just done 35’000 kms on my overland with the continentals and they look as if they will doo at least another 35’000. Considering most of the time has been towing, this is excellent,, I tried nitto grapplers on the last jeep which were noisy and did not do any better. Just love the handling and the quietness of these tyres. I would go for them again even though I do some off road.
Purchased in March 2021 at Lilydale jeep.

So bloody disappointed!
These tyres are not at all durable. I bought a brand new Land Rover Discovery 4 & they came with it. The car is not even 2 years old & the right rear tyre has chipped on the edge already. I have to now spend $600 to get this 1 tyre or $2500 to get 5. This is not expected when you buy a car this expensive. Unbelievable!!!!

Excellent sports tyre for our SUV
I'm surprised by some of the reviews here. This is a performance style tyre for SUV and similar vehicles. If your vehicle is performance oriented this is an excellent tyre choice.
It's road biased towards dry weather grip/road holding. That means compromising off road abilities buts it's fine for dirt roads.
Given its a grippy tyre with softer compound it means you get increased road grip but sacrifice some wear and longevity. As such this tyre will wear more quickly than a hard compound, deep threaded off road biased tyre. If your after...Read more
a road tyre that doesn't understeer or squeal with tons of Tarmac grip this is the tyre for you. If your after a long wearing off road tyre then buy something else. I wouldn't suggest fitting these to a proper 4wd that does track or bush work.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great tyre.
Original tyres on Freelander2 front scrubbed out at 20000 klms due to dodgy wheel alignment.
Just replaced all tyres and the rear originals had 70000 klms.
Great handling tyre, good in the wet, quiet and pretty good off road.
Price wise they compare with most other decent brand tyre.

Short life - Baffled! Noisy! 295/40 R21 Profile (update)
Good tyres when NEW as per specs!
Conclusion: sticky tyres = short life, especially in Australia roads and weather conditions especially summer BUT to only lasted 30,000km?! Baffled!
I don't drive hard on my 21" and the Mercedes GL350 diesel does NOT let you drive hard around corners although when needed, it is capable, so too with accelerating. Tyres were rotated and aligned annually.
Yes 80% city driving thus may be contributing to the excessive work (stress) on the tyres @ 2.6ton + 4 passengers. But less than 30,000km?! I...Read more
had Pirelli on previous car and that too did not last long and that had 50/50 city and country driving and vehicle 1/2 the side and weight?! My other MB Estate is also fitted with Continental and that too, rear set of tyres, @ 25,000km required replacement (front sets are perfect still). With that car, replaced with Michelin 3rd generation A/S 3 (after great review fitted against vehicles of similar specs) and so far, held it's tread! Perhaps MB needs to source something else more appropriate for GL series (cf ML series). Not faulting Continental but questioning the profile matching to the type of vehicle.Similar opinion? Great on xc90
Oem tyre has lasted 60000 km on Volvo XC90 (still going). Quiet and grippy. They do good job on the predominantly front wheel drive 2.2t xc90. Rotated best wheels to front every 15000km and run at 35 to 38 psi. We probably could get another 10k if we had an aligment done last service. 420 treadwear rating and AA grip is hard to match. not used off road.
good wear, good grip
a bit pricey, but ok considering life.

Disappointed
I expected a whole lot more from a brand that is used on "luxury" cars. In fact, I got less life from these than the Bridgestone OEMs!
It should be noted that these were fitted to the wife's 2008 Mazda CX-7 (Luxury, AWD), and even by the service rep at our most recent service, "the CX-7s are very heavy on tyres". He said the anticipated life on a CX-7 is 25-30,000km. I managed to squeeze close to 35,000 out of the OEMs, but the Contis lasted barely 20,000. We drive on-road all the time, don't throw the car around corners (given we have ...Read more
two kids under 4), and the tyres are rotated and balanced regularly. When the tyres were new, I was certainly pleased with the road noise levels and grip / handling, but as Ian S said, overall you don't get what you pay for. Thankfully I got an excellent price at the time, otherwise I'd be even more critical! The new tyres are Cooper CTS Touring, we'll see how they last. Quiet, good grip Poor wearingSimilar opinion? Terrible and expensive tyre
I am a serial Range Rover owner and have tried most major brands in over 30 years. When my new 08 TTDV8 Vogue arrived it had Conti UHPs. Initially I though good grip, quiet and handled gravel and bitumen well. One day I went to cross a hilly wet grassy paddock and no amount of technology could replace good old fashioned wheelspin but the RR's ABS just over-rode any right foot. The tyres were useless.
I ended up pulling myself out with a 700 cc diesel Gator! I don't throw this car around corners but do get moving. Well literally the sh...Read more
oulders peeled off in chunks. Looked like a rat had chewer the shoulders off. Despite constantly checking pressures and repeated trips back to the dealer for balance and alignment, literally these tyres were buggered by 14000 klms. "What do you expect? It's a heavy car! they said. This is my 5th RR and I don't thrash them and managed and squeezed just 20000 out of them by moving the worst ones to the opposite corners. I went back to the old faithful Pirelli Scorpion Zeros which offer a similar quiet ride and a little better off road at half the price. I've done 8000 already and would guesstimate they will get me closer to 40000. DO not buy those Conti UHPs. They are without doubt the worst wearing tyres I have ever had in 31 years diverse motoring. Where are these tyres made?

Hi. Continental tyres are based in Hanover Germany. I cant see anything on the tyres as to where they are made. They may be made in China but I'm only guessing. If they are to me that's no issue on the basis the quality control and assurance standards will be set by Continental. These are grippy tyres - just watch the wear rate being a softer compound.
Hi,
I just bought some Conti Cross Contact AT and there made in South Africa, stamped on the side wall.
Okay just got the crosscontact uhp 295.45 R20..made in the Czech Republic..

Hi I am about to replace my Continentals with Pirellis. I have a never been used spare I'd be interested in selling in 20" and would do you a better than dealer price to place it. Email [email protected] or 0412 754416 if you'd like it. If it is any use to you two of the 4 coming off the car still have decent tread. No stress I'll advertise on ebay or Gumtree. Regards Ian S.
Hi Grant I replied yesterday. I am just changing my Vogue onto new Pirellis all round. I'll do all 5 wheels. The Conticontact spare has never been out of the back or on the car and is brand new. I'll let you have it for $100 off the best price you can get from anywhere if you wish to take it from me. I don't know where you are located but I could put on Greyhound freight for you pretty economically. if I don't hear from you in a day or two will be putting it on Gumtree. All the best Ian S.
Hi ian
I have 21" on my Merc so they won't fit anyway thanks for the reply
For what you pay they are not the best wearing tyre for such a heavy vehicle but not much choice when you buy these cars.
You have a nice car in the Vogue,
Cheers
Grant
