Good allrounder

published

Tyres have been on the car for around 25000km's and show minimal wear. Fairly quiet tyre as well compared to previous Goodyear Eagle tyres although I got around 80000km's out of them. Having not owned a set of Continetal tyres before on any vehicle I wasnt sure what to expect but these tyres have been great so far. Recommended!.

Great tyres, worth the money!

published

After having some tyres that did not last 12 months, with the low kilometres I do, I was quite surprised. I spoke to JAX Tyres and the representative recommended Continental ContiSports for my car. Whilst they are slightly more expensive, you can't put a price on safety, and durability. I am so glad I made the change. I have since changed the Bridgestone's on my partners car to Continental tyres too. They have minimal road-noise, they have lasted a lot better than my previous tyres, and are good in the wet. I can't recommend them enough.

Excellent tyres! I’m on my second set!

published

These tyres came on our 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI... and after the first set wore out I replaced them with the same again. Although they wore a little quickly (first set I got 40,000kms from the fronts) they provide very good grip in the dry and wet and let go in a controlled manner when you push them hard. They’re quiet enough although next time I need tyres I think I’ll try something else just to see if a less blocky style pattern might run even a bit quieter. But they wore evenly across the whole tread pattern and the new set have been a little better maybe (maybe the oem tyres were a slightly different compound). And they were good value for money!! Got them online from a local tyre place for low $200’s per tyre from memory (in 17’s).

Great road tyre

published

Excellent all round performance road tyre. Quiet, and grippy. You will however notice you’ll need to turn your steering wheel further to initiate a turn due to the flexible sidewalls. Give good predictable feedback and traction during spirited driving. Don’t use these tyres on a track day however, as they will delaminate and you’ll destroy them in only 30 laps if your a quick driver.

Quiet Tyres

published

Yes very durable tyres, they are so quiet you do not hear them at all, plus we went to bob jane t mart & had nitrogen put in them in april last year, and although we go back every 3 months for a tyre pressure check.. Wow they have not needed to be topped up, I am so impressed, they are super quiet, I am tickled pink with these tyres & I would strongly recommend buying these tyres. Lexie xxx

Good grip

published

Had a flat tyre a couple months back and went to have it repaired. Was informed that my tyres were a little bold and was recommended to change the rears. Had several quotes and decided to go with Continentals as it gave good performance while being a good all rounder. Great tyre and reasonable price too.

great tyres

published

great tyres but they wear out a bit too soon, love the handling as they snug the road and handle very well in the wet. The tyres give a great smooth ride as they are a quality tyre, my only cons is that they wear out quicker than I expected. If they improve on the wear they would be the best tyre for sure.

(5P) Great for cornering in the dry

published

I have the ContiSport Contact 5P fitted to a 416bhp RWD vehicle.

The CSC 5P are HORRIBLE for accelerating in the wet. Wheelspin for minutes if you put your foot down from a stop. Really sucks when you're trying to accelerate in an emergency.

The CSC 5P are also kinda bad for accelerating in the dry. Wheelspin for a while if you put your foot down at all. Embarrassing when you're trying to accelerate in an emergency.

The CSC 5P are pretty good for cornering in the wet. I haven't spun out by accident, or understeered.

SUV tyre punctured by wood chip

published

Driving around town a wood chip punctured a new tyre (<5000km) on the edge of the tread. As an SUV tyre I expect some resistance to puncture, but these tyres are very soft rubber and don't appear to resist punctures. Too early to comment on wear. No other issues with performance to comment on. Rating is based on being an SUV tyre.

Great tyres for a great price

published

Purchased these tyres at jaxx quickfit last year when they were running a 4 tyres for the price of 3 offer. They are excellent tyres from a reputable brand. Grip levels are fantastic in my clio sport 4, exceeding the performance of the stock good year eagle as2 tyres in both wet and dry conditions with ease.

Fuel economy doesn't seem to be affected however they are a tiny bit noisier than the good years but not by much so I still give them 5 stars, especially given they are $100 a tyre cheaper than the good years

Great sports tyre

published

Love these tyres! Significant upgrade from the OEM tyres, completely transformed the car. I went from Dunlop Sport Maxx GT 225/35/19 to ContiSportContact 5 225/40/18. Only after this did I realise how much I was driving on eggshells with the Dunlops: the ride was much too firm, and terrible traction. These Contis give me a much nicer ride (going from 19" to 18" probably played a part) and grip much better in dry and wet. Have to push pretty hard to lose traction, but even then stay predictable (unlike the Dunlops!). Seem quieter too. Done about 5000 km now, and wear seems reasonable. No regrets!

Dangerous during life

published

Purchased a new Ford MD 2016 Mondeo Titanium Wagon which has these tyres fitted as standard. After 30,000ks of 90% pure freeway driving between Melbourne and Canberra, the tyres still had a further 10,000ks of tread left and are in good condition however they are sliding around everywhere. Can't go round a roundabout at just above idle without them sliding losing grip causing a clunking of the vehicle trying to steer around the roundabout or even backing out of driveway and then turning to drive off. BUT THEY STILL HAVE 10,000ks LEFT. WARNING, don't trust these tyres even if they still look good.

Great in the rain

published

Just got a full set of these on my car and I'm very pleased with them. They cost a little more but are well worth it. They stick to the road in the wet and dry which was just what I was after. I feel very secure driving with these tires. When they're done I'll be replacing them with another set of continental. 5 stars for these tyres!

Good tyres

I brought these tyres for my car. They are a tad dearer than most but I feel continental have a good reputation. I do notice the tyres stick to the raid better than my lady tyres, but I find they are wearing quickly. So I give them a 4 star rating

Excellent on our Ford FG XR6

published

What a difference the Continental ContiSportContact 5 made to our Ford FG XR6, tyre size 245/40/18
Tyres Improved - better handling - quieter - smoother softer ride - and the wear so far after 7mths and 13 thousand ks is far superior to our previous tyres in fact the tread is still deep and even, wear is only minor visible
A family member recommended these as he has them on his VE SV6 and is very happy, and now so are we.
We had been using Bridgestone Potenza RE002 the last couple of replacements and were happy with the grip in wet and dry but found them noisy and very poor wear at around 18 to 20 thousand ks before needing replacing if lucky.
Would I buy the ContiSportContact again, absolutely, would I recommend them absolutely.

Millionaires Tyres

published

I have a four year old 328i BMW sedan which came with Continental Run Flat tyres. Replaced at 25,000kms and now at 52,000kms will need to again replace shortly. $350 each. 18 inch rims standard.
Told by BMW to drive at 41kp - this ensures they are rock hard, and guarantees a bent rim with a pot hole at 45kmh. Hard, and worst of all, wear out far too early despite major use city leisure driving ie 12,000 kms a year.
Told by Bob Jane distributor - known to be 'soft' tyres and not surprised at usage pattern.

How durable are these tyres for gravel roads?

I have minimal to no real road noise from my Continentals, so am surprised with yours. I have only driven about 16 klms on gravel with no problems whatsoever.

I never drove on anything other than normal roads, but had to replace tyres at 17000 km. But the tyres were alright for road noise, it wasn't too bad. These are not durable tyres at all.

What is the visual signs a continental contact sports5 is a MOE tyre and is this a run flat tyre?

Sorry but not a run flat .

Check out their website, it’ll give you this information, also Moe stands for Mercedes original equipment.

Jarkko
Jarkko

On the side wall, just under where it says "ContiSportContact 5 SSR" you'll find the letters MOE. Golfmother is correct, they are not a true run-flat tyre, but offer similar characteristics (see the speel below). My understanding is that if you drive the entire 80 Km at 80 Km/h, the tyre is toast. You might be able to salvage it if you limit your driving distance to 30Km.

"The ContiSportContact 5 SSR is Continental's Max Performance Summer tire designed to provide temporary extended mobility in case of complete air loss due to a puncture. The ContiSportContact 5 SSR's reinforced sidewall enables the car to continue on its way at a maximum speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) for up to 50 miles (80 km), depending on road conditions and vehicle weight.
Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure".
