Hey guys I have got the cooper st/maxx tyres put on my 2018 hilux, I seem to get a lot of vibration in the Ute, through the whole cab, seats and everything, when driving on rougher sealed roads, haven’t taken it off road or on gravel as yet but I’d imagine it would do much the same if not worse, I haven’t taken it back into the shop yet, just thought I’d ask your opinions first! any ideas? thanks in advance

I would be straight back to the shop, it sounds like a balance or alignment issue. Do a good visual check on all tyres to be sure they are identical specifications and there are no tread defects.

I'm assuming all the basics are checked or attended to by the tyre fitter/supplier
Ie Each wheel balanced and alignment all good at time of fitment - and that the vibration has occurred only after the Coopers went on?
Not too sure what your original tyres were but some of the newer HiLuxes we have seen have come standard with a road-bias tyre which run quietly and smoothly on bitumen. The ST Maxx is quite a blocky thing and will run noisy and a bit viby on bitumen, but not to the extent that it intrudes into the cab.
If you can't cover the noise by turning the radio up (hahaha) then it sounds like you have a greater problem than that
If you have access to an old set of tyres (still legal tread but on the way out) swap the Coopers out and see if the vibes stop
Unfortunately, if you do find that the Coopers are the source of the problem you then enter the world of despair that is the Coopers "Warranty Process"
Unless you have a really good supplier - or a lot of time and money to spend pursuing an American Company internationally - then you are pretty much doomed
If you can make it more expensive for Coopers to ignore you than it is to replace the tyres (or refund your money !!!) they may act in your favour
To this point I do not know anyone who has had successful Cooper-factory warranty replacement
The 'Warranty' replacement is usually provided by the local supplier (often at his own expense) so HE doesn't get a bad name for supplying tyres that have failed or have been faulty at time of supply
I do know suppliers who will no longer stock Coopers - in Brisbane,Townsville, Mackay, Rocky, Blackall, Longreach - citing that as one of the reasons
Coopers make more consistent quality TV ads than they do tyres
Good luck

Hi i purchased these the other day but had to swap them for the AT3 reason being when i was traveling along the road (mitsubishi triton ) the car swayed madly left to right for no reason. i was told it was because of the car being so light in the back end. Is this correct?
Cheers

Not had that experience with my ST maxx in the almost 18 months I’ve had them on the Prado.....sounds like a steering issue

Hey mate i have a landcruiser ute I put the old cooper ATR on my ute they were the best tyres I ever had I traveled all through the Kimberly I work up there so I would go where most people wouldn't think to go finding fishing spots and a lot of father son trips to dirk hartog Island and that's hard core 4WD driving on your tyres and vehicle it's good because it keep week off the island my Cooper ATR Tyres lasted to they were worn out no flat tyres at all no trouble at all then I got the ST/MAXX tyres what a big mistake first trip to back to island got a stake in the tyre right in spot it says armour tech and and next trip got another stake in the same place so called armour tech, tyres and for those people that rate these tyres must just weekend warriors because these tyres are useless.

Hi mark,
Far too many variables to give a specific number. Vehicle itself, how heavy are you fully loaded, are you towing anything etc. For my purposes however day to day running around I sat them on 38Psi, loaded to the hilt with the van on the back I bumped them up to 50psi

I want to know more details about the Cooper S / T MAXX such as fuel consumption, comfort, braking and off-road and on stability in cornering

Hi, Can't comment on the fuel consumption, never really payed any attention to it. But they are as comfortable as one would expect from a serious off road tyre.
Braking on road is excellent even in wet conditions, braking off road is relevant to the speed your doing, anything will lock on a gravel road if driving too fast. having said that I've never had any concerns with stopping or cornering.

Hi there, I'm running 285 x 75 x R16 and although I never paid too much attention to fuel consumption I don't believe it changed very much. The have excellent road manners on both bitumen and off road conditions either wet or dry, suspension, tyre pressures and driving styles have as much to do with grip as do the tyres fitted to the vehicle.

Hi sorry for the late reply. I agree with the above comments. To add to off road and on road stability in cornering i do find the S/T Maxx to be better than the many brands i've tried including the current road tires im using. In wet weather the water dispersion is excellent but can be slippery during sharp cornering. The S/T feels more rigid and i feel i have more control with them over other brands out there.
Hope it helps

That's an open ended question, depending where you are and if any tyre dealers have any specials going to move stock.
Ring around and specifically ask for them.
Play one dealer off against another.
They're well worth the coin.
I've done 20,000kms and they still have heaps of tread.
And they stick like sh!t to a blanket in mud.
Good luck.

Depends on the size and you shopping around. One dealer said he would lose his dealership if he discounted which is total bs as it's against Trade Practices Legislation to have "retail price maintenance." My R17's (Prado) currently retail for $440 each, but I purchased one to replace my old spare just last month (Feb 2015) for $380 without too much trouble. My neighbour wanted 5 larger tyres for his 200 Series and they were over $400 each with discount after he had shopped around.

It's probably better to get 5 as one extra for a spare tyre

Perhaps the tyres shop that sells them can help you further though don't forget to get one extra spare tyre as well

Are these tires particularly loud on the road? Do the bigger ones say 32/33" diameter make more noise?

Yes they are noisy but no worse than the Kelly,s I have just put on. If you want grip, expect noise. As for the bigger sizes, unsure, but would imagine there would be noise along with reduced economy, but at least you can get through sticky stuff

brian
brian

If you are extra concerned about the noise / perhaps you could try fitting mag wheels to see if that helps

Maverick

Research suggests the larger the tyre the less noise. Quite the opposite of what you would expect.
