I just bought this last week after seeing the good reviews here

published

Low smell and I think it is better than the Breeder's Choice recycled paper litter due to close to NO smell and ease of picking out the nicely coated dry poops.
Can dispose of in the garden. Am now wondering if I can flush the poop down the toilet since it's only coated in rice husks...cost me around $6 and I think I might get 3 - 4 weeks out of it as our cat only does one poop a day.

Terrible litter

The litter dOesn’t clump as stated, in fact turns to dust making it impossible to scoop. Unpleasant odour also. I will not be wasting my money on this litter again.

My Kittens like this product better than others I've tried.

published

After trying several types of litter I've found this is the best by far. It's safe, easy to get rid of; just spread it around the garden and is a natural product. Being kittens 4 and 5 months old now, they do still kick a bit of it out of the box sometimes, but it's easy to brush up and put back into the tray. I buy the 4kg bags as they are easier to store than the 12.5kg bags. They also work out cheaper for me.

Desperate for Woolworths to restock

published

This litter is the best. We use it for night time and rainy weather. My cat always gets it everywhere but it’s soft under foot when you stagger out half asleep. Garden and lawn loves it. I put the tray out in the sun during the day and the rice and UV eliminates any doors and I can use it for over a week.

Best one yet

I switched over to this product after the clay litters then breeders choice failed to neutralise the odour of my recently sexually mature male cat's wee. I admit Max's litter has an odd smell but its great at neutralising the ammonia odour coming from the wee. My boy accepted the litter without fuss and I dont need to change the litter as often either as there is no horrible smells. Very easy to clean too! Hopefully this product doesn't change like most do.

Unfortunately the worst litter so far

published

It has a bit strange smell, like cereal or smth, I didn't mind it but my cat refused to use this litter. Unfortunately he decided that sofa or anywhere else in the bathroom is much better to pee on instead of his tray... Going back to the crystal litter after 2 days trying to convince my cat to use this product.

I like this product as it clumps well and can be put in the garden or able to be flushed down the toilet.

Disappointing

published

For many years I have purchased Max's Cat Litter and always felt it was a very good product. Lately, however, I notice that it is quite powdery. I preferred it when it was mostly pellets. I thought at first the product was more powdery because it had been shaken about before or at the point of sale, but continued use has demonstrated that that's just how it is these days: about 30% powder and 70% pellets.

Works well!

My cat uses this litter well, there's only a slight grainy smell which isn't too bad. I put the used litter in my garden which has improved the soil and makes good flowers.
I highly recommend giving this litter a try.

The odour was overpowering

published

I purchased this wanting to be a bit more kind to the environment, and instead the cat decided that it was nicer to use the couch as a toilet than the litter tray due to the overwhelming odour that permeated from the litter tray. A horrible product that was thrown away. Back to the drawing board.

Worst smelling litter I have tried!

published

This litter smells worse than what the cats leave behind in it, and that's saying something! I thought I would try it as the litter I use is very expensive and I thought it might perform similarly while being less costly. Big mistake, it took weeks to get the horrible smell of the litter out of my bathroom, the cats were reluctant to use it too and preferred the second tray with the other litter still in it. Had to throw it away in the end and go back to my previous litter.

Best cat litter!

published

I've tried a whole bunch, this stuff is seriously good. Purina Tidy cats is good too - probably on par but is expensive and the sweet scent is too strong for my cat. This cat litter smells good (naturally, rather than an artificial scent), soft on paws, cheap and very easy to clean - clumps very well! Super odour minimising, can't smell anything other than a nice rice smell.
Highly recommended

Best I've found.

I love this litter. It smells a little rice bran like, for obvious reasons, but I can just scoop out the faeces and leave the urine to dry. I change it once a week and there is only the rice smell. My baby girl loves it. My previous was a "clumping, odour minimising" litter, and it did neither. Plus it was impossible to sweep up completely.
I will be continuing to use Max's

2nd Worst cat litter Ever

published

This cat litter has zero absorbancy & zero odour control. 1 bag lasted 2 days, I constantly pull out soiled parts, but my cats wee would sink to the bottom causing a huge ammonia type smell. This might be acceptable for some cat owners, but not me or the boss (Naji the best cat in the world)

Best cat litter ever

published

I have limited space in my unit, so am very conscious of litter smell. Max's is the best of 4 brands I have tried. As a previous reviewer noted, it indeed smells a bit like breakfast cereal, but I don't find it unpleasant at all. My mother cat and 4 kittens love it (in fact, one of them plays in it....yuk). Very happy customer!

Would like to know if this litter is made up of rice hulls? I would like to use it as bedding for my small chickens, do you think it would be suitable?
And where I can buy please.

Here is some info from their web page: "The exceptional qualities of Max’s® Cat Litter make it ideal for use on the floors of birdcages and aviaries. Max’s® Cat Litter is also suitable as a bedding material for mice, guinea pigs, reptiles and other small animals"; "Made from natural ingredients, does not contain any harmful chemicals and is completely organic and biodegradable. It also contains useful nutrients and trace elements, making it an ideal garden compost with the ability to improve soil structure"; "Premium quality product developed to cater for the personal hygiene needs of cats and other pets. The secret to Max’s® Cat Litter is Oryzalite, an exclusive blend of plant materials from Australian rice farms, which is formed into free-flowing granules. This results in a natural litter material that is effective, easy to use and easy to dispose of".

I purchase mine online from PETstock - it is $21.59 AUD delivered to my home. I have a standard order and it ships to me every 12 weeks. I have two cats and I find the product excellent for their litter trays. Check out the CopRice website for more information but I hope this is of help to you.

How have others found the litter breaks down if used as compost or in the garden?

1 answer
hoopla9

Hi Merryn, From the small amount of research I've done regarding rice husk litter it is great for your garden if the soil contains a lot of clay; which mine does. The rice husks take several years to break down so they make the clay friable for a long time. This is very helpful to the garden and to your pocket as you've already paid for the kitty litter but to buy Gypsum or any other product to break up the clay will cost you money. The rice husks are neither compost nor fertiliser so add these to the soil as you usually do. I hope that helps answer your question. :-)
