2 line retractable clothesline
Had it just on 2 years and the retraction mechanism has gone
No wonder they only give a 2 year warranty
I’ll be looking for a Hills retractable in future If I wasn’t 73 and it wasn’t Covid I’d take it back to Bunnings

Daytek Replacement Clothesline CORD.
Purchaced the "Daytek Replacement Clothesline Cord" (60m x 3.5mm) from Bunnings in Jan 2022 and installed it on my rotary clothes line ensuring that each line was tight and secure.
This cord is absolutely garbage. The cord soon became loose and sags, even with minimal use. Don't waste your money on nylon core cords - they stretch. Rather consider a metal cable core.

Australian Company Daytek does not honour their warranty
My fold up "Daytek" clothesline which has 10 years warranty failed by way of a plastic corner bracket breaking (the other side looks to be also affected by UV) after just 4 years of use. I sent Daytek a photo of the failed unit only to get a reply stating the failure is due to misuse! This statement is not true as the unit is static and seldom retracted and by way of a photograph it is impossible to tell how the failure occured. They refused to replace the fitting. So here's an Australian company who thinks they are above the consumer laws. Keep well clear of them. I will elevate the matter to VCAT for the sake of all consumers.

Under the Australian Consumer Law a proof of purchase is needed to claim a warranty. We will be in contact with you as we can send out replacement parts as a good faith gesture.

Great design - Terrible Quality
I purchased the daytek 3-tier clothes airer after much research. It's a great design and allows for lots of clothes to dry, and lots of configurations for longer clothes or smaller items.
HOWEVER - the materials are very cheap. The metal racks bend very easily and break right off. As a clothes dryer it should allow for the weight of wet washing without breaking. Yet any slightly heavier items (small towels/jumpers etc) have bent and popped the end rods right out of the socket - after only a couple of months.
I have replaced these with wooden ...Read more

Not Really Impressed
We bought our M58 Rotary Clothesline in June 2018 (last year) from Bunnings. Not long after some of the lines became loose and saggy and by May this year (2019) we had a line break, so not even 12 months old. Daytek customer service were good to send out a 60m pack replacement line which luckily they did as we have since needed to replace a couple of other lines. But today I had two lines break one after the other so I'm really not impressed. I've been washing and hanging out the same things for the last 20+ years on several different rotary washing lines and never had this happen. Really poor quality line which the company needs to reassess. The rotary part itself seems to be alright but not like others I've used before.

SPrice685,
This situation sounds concerning as we have not experienced lines breaking like this. Are they breaking when the line is being folded up and down, or is it while the line is open and being used?
It's when the line is open we have no need to fold it up it just stays out. I've read other reviews with the same problem so I'm not the only one! I can see the inside of the line when it snaps, it's not strong at all.

he unit it opened, then there must be something different happening. We are more than happy to send out more replacement line. Maybe it is being tightened too much. With poly wrapped nylon cord, it is not recommended to have it under too much tension. There is meant to be a small amount slack in the line as it lowers the stress on the whole unit in the case of high winds. It is not meant to be tightened as you would old steel core wire. If you would prefer to "upgrade" to steel core wire, most hardware stores stock some. There is a chance also, that you got defect in the cord, so of course we will cover it under warranty. For now, if you would like to get replacement poly cord, please call us on (03) 9470 1755 or email us at [email protected] and one of our reps will organise a replacement for you. Very disappointed...waste of money
I bought a Daytek Tower Airer from Bunnings because I though if I spent extra I would get a little more life out of it. What a disappointment . I should have been clued in when I read you could buy spare parts...I didn't realise I would need to almost immediately. The rods pop out of their sockets super easily and because they are so closely spaced it is difficult to put clothes on without a little pressure. When the pop out you need to slightly bend them to get them back in position and hopefully without leaving a kink, but then I find out...Read more
that the edge of the rod has a split finish that snaps off really easily so I can then just throw that one out...YAY! That's what I paid for. Can't take it back to Bunnings (receipt is MIA), so I'm stuck with this hunk of junk. Your design has some serious flaws that need to be looked at. The one rod that attaches to the frame poles cannot support the weight of the clothes when fully loaded. All of them have permanent kinks now and I'm afraid to bend it in the opposite direction because I am sure it will snap1 comment

6 Line Retractable Clothesline - ok but beware, it cannot be restrung.
We bought the outdoor 6 line retractable clothesline about 3 years ago, and had been happy up until now. The line has deteriorated significantly, and I expected to have to replace it about now. What I did not expect is that you cannot replace the line at all! There is no indication on the packaging about this, or instructions regarding care for the line. All their other products can be restrung and the cord is sold alongside this product.
I called customer service who indicated that I could return it to point of sale with proof of purchase, ...Read more
and they would replace the whole unit (they would honour the 10yr structural warranty, despite line warranty only being 2yrs). This is very generous, though of course this is the one receipt I can't find, and I'm saddened by the waste of an otherwise good unit. I spent over $300 on this unit + mounting post - not a good investment so far. Had I realised that I could not replace the line, I would not have purchased it. It should be clearly indicated on the box and in the instructions that this is the case.1 comment

Very disappointed
I bought the M48 from Bunnings & it doesn't fit a queen sized sheet like it states without it being all bunched up. I'd say it is a good 30cm too short for the width of a queen sized sheet. Yesterday I hung some sheets up on it but later when I went out to bring them in the whole thing had folded up on itself & my washing was hanging on the ground. Upon some investigation I have found there are parts missing as well. No yellow slip ring as explained in the installation video. No lower wind brake & no pegs came with it like listed. It's actually a complete waste of money as I can't even use it now & will have to buy a new one And it's only been up about 3 weeks.

Poor quality - wouldn't get another
The previous Hills Hoist was twenty-five years young and only replaced it because we were moving the line to a new location in the yard. Had this clothesline less than 12 months before all the lines became quite slack and needed tightening (NOTE - we didn't have to tighten the lines in the Hills Hoist for the entire time we owned it). Within a few days of tightening the lines, the middle line had stretched again so had another go - now a couple of weeks later, is so stretched it cannot be used. Also the plastic at the base has broken so must be of equally poor quality.

Carol K.asked
We have purchased a Daytek MKII 5 line Retractable Clothes line - how long are the lines please? We cant find anywhere what the span of the line is. Before opening the package we want to ensure it fits the space we have for it.
1 answer
AloysiusDaytek
The maximum span that our retractable clothesline has is 7meters when fully retracted. Please note that the further the span; the more droop you may have in the middle. So if you are planning on spanning it a long distance, please mount the unit as high as you can comfortably use it and make sure to balance your loads when hanging them (heavy items at the ends and light items in the middle). I hope this helps. Please feel free to get back to us if you have any further questions. If you need quicker responses we recommend contacting us via facebook, emailing us at [email protected] or calling on (03) 9470 1755. Have a great day.
L.Considineasked
Why does my new clothesline creak every time I use it, how do i stop it?
3 answers
AloysiusDaytek
G'day L.Considine,
There are a few reasons that your line might be creaking. Are you able to tell roughly where the creak is coming from? Is it where the two parts of the post meet? Where the handle is? Up need the arms? If you can give me a little more info. I will ask our engineers what to do for you.
It comes from the center where the arms are conected and winds up and down when adjusting the height. It creaks when It spins and as you peg washing on the lines as well as goin up and down.
AloysiusDaytek
For this we have found that some customer had luck using a little silicone lubricant or graphite spray on the post. They wind the clothesline up as high as it will go and apply some to where the two posts meet. Then they wind the line down as low as it will go. This should transfer the lubricant into the unit. It may take a week or so for the lubricant to work its way all the way down, and sometimes might take a couple of applications. The lubricants can be bought from most hardware store fairly cheaply.
I hope this helps.
