Oh no, call Delonghi on 1800 126 659. Last time I called them with an issue I found them knowledgeable, rude and insensitive but the troubleshooting they stepped me through helped resolve my issue.

Make sure you have the black knob on top turned as far as you can clockwise. I always keep the cup underneath (for catching the brewed coffee) while I am frothing the milk.. I remove the coffee arm and reservoir before removing that cup. If the water is leaking from anywhre other than where the coffee comes out, I suggest you call the company on 1800126659.

After identifying a leak from around the coffee delivery area. Ive taken the top off and exposed the mechanical part of the machine to find water is spraying/leaking from what appears to be screws holding the boiling element in place. How can I fix it?

Obviously tighten the screw if you can. If its getting old, it may be time for an update. Thats what i did as they dont last forever.

Thanks for the response. I've tightened the screws, but alas no help. The machine has been used for less than a year (but out of warranty) before we started having issues.

We are very happy with the machine apart from one small problem. The second cup is not as good as the first having less crema. We have tried to make sure that coffee dose and tamping pressure is the same but second cup is never up to the first. Any help?

I have the same experience. I make a new cup every time rather than using the first batch of steamed milk. I steam milk again. Hope this helps.

Hi Arosha. Instructions say only make espresso first then the milk. Are you saying it works ok to do espresso then milk then back to espresso? My old at home machine could handle that just fine so I am hoping your answer is yes!

I always turn the machine off after I've finished with it. However, I also always heat the cups with boiling water before I make the coffee. It uses less power and is hardly time consuming. I hope you love your DeLonghi as much as I loved mine.

Hi
I would turn it off as these machines don't like to be on any length of time. As i have said they are only good for 1 coffee a day. Good luck with ur machine i will never buy another one again.

I have a Delonghi Icona Espresso machine and haven't been able to get one cup that wasn't watery and tasteless. In fact, it tastes of plastic or something. I'm using pre-ground beans, and I've tried having the filter basket stuffed full of coffee, not so full, lightly tamped, heavily tamped, nothing seems to alter the taste. Can anyone give me some clue as to what might be wrong?
I don't feel I can return this machine since I've returned two other DeLonghi machines to the same shop for the same defect. Help!

The only thing I can think of is that you're brewing it for too long......ie, after the crema as come through and there's only weak coffee. Don't over tamper it or have too fine ground. For a mug size coffee I use the largest filter and stop brewing as soon as the crema has finished coming through, then add the frothed milk. I find Harris Special Blend coffee has a nice flavour. You should only have about 2cm of espresso in the bottom of your mug.
I've never ever had a problem with my Espresso machines but it does take technique.

Let me know how you go.

The problem is there is too much water coming out of the steam wand. No matter how little you turn the steam knob the milk is watery. Mine does the same. Only way I can get a decent coffee is heating the milk in the microwave. Delonghi seem to think it's not faulty when clearly it is. Waste of money on this machine, I think.

The machine I have had for 18months now drips or squirts hot water from the steamer making a dreadful mess. What can I do to stop this happening?

1 answer

Assuming you've closed the steamer knob tight, there must be something obstructing its valve. Have you tried running a descaler through with the steamer valve fully open? It may help to clean out whatever is preventing it from fully closing. Otherwise you may have to get it repaired our replaced under warranty.
