Should I only go with Diamond Energy if I have solar panels? I am moving out and will be renting so we won't have solar, will it still be a reasonable price?

I think they do a bill compare if you ask them. They did it for us. They're good even with no solar.

I'm looking at Diamond Energy, I'm in an apartment so trying to work out whether I need solar panels or not?

It would be tricky to get solar panels in an apartment but Diamond energy is sourced from renewables, so at least you know you're helping the planet!

Is it more expensive to have solar on private rentals than owning you own home?

I can only speculate, that as a tenant, after getting the owner's agreement to install panels, if indeed you are responsible for the electricity bill as most tenants in Australia are, you would earn as much credit for the electricity your panels generate as an owner would, but without the security of tenure an owner has, you will have the extra costs of uninstalling, taking the system with you and reinstalling on your next rental property...if you can find an owner who agrees to it.

Hi.
We have solar panels, a 5kw system.
Diamond energy give us 11cents per kw put back into the grid.
But I think the main benefit is that with solar it uses the power generated for the home use first then any excess going back into the grid.
My bills have more than halved since installing solar.
Try using your heavy electricity usage between 9am and 2pm if possible, that is the maximum gain period for solar.
I must admit I have not heard of anyone taking the solar installation with them when they move.
The way new technology is going, there will be bigger and better all the time.
Hope that helps you.

If your bill is 800 plus you may benefit. Personally I would go halves with the owner and only if your bill is really high

I am currently with AGL and am concerned about how much I pay. My bills are 1300-1700 a quarter. I have a roof full of solar panels and majority of the house is energy saving appliances etc. Are you able to help me?

I recommend the Alternative Energy Association for this, Tabatha. One year's membership is well worth it for you, and for them. Look up the Queensland branch.

I am considering switching providers. I have solar panels and live in postcode 3925. Could you tell me what are your rates, what is your daily connection fee, and what is your feed in tariff so that I can compare. Also is there a lock in contract and if so are you able to increase rates after I'm locked in? Many thanks.

You need to contact Diamond Energy. I am very happy with their rates & customer service plus they source 91% of their energy from renewables.

I am a bit in a predicament: To answer or not to answer...
Because "product review" is where one can ask questions to other consumers and where consumers write reviews.
But - as pointed out by DRose above: Your need to contact Diamond Energy about this.
Which you know yourself, as your ask: "Could you tell me what are your rates", i.e. your question is directed to Diamond Energy.
Thus best to ask them for a quote via their website.

However, since you are asking your question here on product review to other customers/consumers:
I am a happy NSW customer of Diamond Energy.
Plus, info from Diamond website: "Diamond Energy standard feed-in rate is 12 c/kWh"
Also, I can tell you - in contrast to other providers - Diamond does not hand-cuff you with a lock-in contract.

Cheers, Peter

I was worried by the complaint about not getting the old feed-in tariff because we get that currently. I would hate to lose it but we are with AGL and they are always rated as not supporting renewable energy which I believe in. However we have not had problems with them so should I change?

1 answer

Hi Lynda, thanks for your enquiry. There are a number of different feed-in tariffs around the country. You can give us a call on 1300 838 009 during business hours and our team will be able to check your property and give you some more information about your feed-in tariff.

I had solar panel installed and switched to Diamond Energy a few years ago. I'd like to ask if anyone has the 400kwh feed in per quarter limit as I do. Probably it was my bad not checking the contract properly and believed the SOLAR company who installed my system but seriously limiting 400kwh feed in is not inline with what Diamond Energy said about passionate about renewable on their website.

1 answer

Hi Van, sounds like you may be on one of our special feed in credit offers available with new solar systems through one of our partner installers. If so, you will be receiving a booster feed in credit for a period of time up to an export limit on top of our standard feed in rate of 8c/kWh for export - these are some of the highest available. This is one way that we like to support renewables. To confirm or discuss further, you can call us on 1300 838 009.

I am with Diamond Energy but I am wondering if I supposed to get an invoice around 1 month and 12 days after the power was connected.

As I thought I supposed to get an invoice every 3 months?

And why would the invoice show two meter numbers (peak and controlled) when it is a 1 bedroom flat with gas for the stove and oven through another company.

Your meter will be read, and the bill issued, each three months. The meter reading is handled by the distribution company, not by the retailer, and they read every meter in your street, and every other street, according to their three-month timetable. You happened to move in about 2 months after they read the meters in your street - from now on, expect about three months to pass between bills. The controlled load meter is most likely for your electric hot water system.

It really depends on what feed-in tariff you are getting. If you are on a plan with after hours & weekend off-peak rates, you may be better off running it during those hours. My off-peak hours are 11pm-7am & all weekend.

How does this company transfer credit to the customers?

If my credit is greater than $50 they will pay to my bank account unless I request otherwise. I am usually in credit over the summer months then that amount is deducted from my winter bill.
