If I sign a contract for a home you tell me will be around say 250,000 thousand or less to build and I get a loan approved for that amount then all of a sudden all the trades want more money because in high demand and all the manufacturers want there piece of the pie to because of all the government grants will it end up costing me another 20,000 to 50,000 thousand on top that I need to come up with or once you have that signed contract it's ok for the price to build

Builder will fix it for you, you need to open account and give them the account number and the provider company names

Alyssa Calderwood

Hi. All I had to do was set up my accounts, and then pass these details on to my builder and they do the rest from there. Dreamstart were good in providing me with info on who to call to set up these accounts.

Amila Jayalath

When you open the electricity account, check with your builder whether they need a temporary supply or not. Synergy will ask you that question. I built with dreamstart and they said they don’t need a temporary connection. It saved me spending for connecting and disconnecting the temporary connection.

Hi there,

Can I please ask anyone for their experience with DreamStart homes. I am thinking of signing up on with them, any suggestions?

Hi there,

My experience was great! The process was straight forward, there were no nasty surprises at pre-start, which people had warned me about and our house was built in 7 months. Our building supervisor was really on the ball and actually showed us a few things that were not quite right, which he was getting fixed up. After handover there were a few minor issues, but Dreamstart got a contractor there to fix them up within a few days.

I would highly recommend them.

Hi Dahvy
Building a new home with Dreamstart was one of the best things I have done in my life in decades. My consultant Ryan who is now at the Calleya estate at Banjup helped to design my house to exactly how I wanted it. I lost count of how many of their standard designs he bastardised in an effort to come up with exactly what I wanted. The changes to the design were done at no cost. Extras were reasonably priced and when there was less of something like walls you got a credit for it. A couple of appliances I picked wern't available so Dreamstart supplied other more upmarket ones at no extra cost.Things worked out better than I had hoped and I received thousands of dollars back when the site works came out to be cheaper than budgeted for. I have never heard of a builder who has done this. Ryan went to the Council and found the DAP giving me special building concessions which none of the other builders I contacted had bothered about. The quality of the materials and workmanship were first class. There were a few minor things they had to fix up after the house was built, however they did this promptly. Throughout the build process they kept me fully informed what was happening. Every one in the Dreamstart/Content Living organisation treated me very special, like a real customer, something you do not experience any more. Any more queries pls contact me on [email protected]

We have signed a building contract with a builder however there have been so many things that have gone wrong until now the we haven't even signed the final plans yet! We have lost all faith in them and don't trust them to build our house. Does anyone know if we can cancel the contract or are we stuck with them?

Thanks

Was it a preliminary contract with a deposit? You can always change your mind. You will lose your deposit, but at least not the rest of your money! You left Thi s question last year...what did you end up deciding?

If i sign up now, and get the plans etc approved by local council, do i have to start building by a certain time frame?. I assume that if you sign up that "obviously" the price agreed upon, must have a time frame attached.? I read on the review site that someone signed up in Feb and started builing in Dec. How does this all work?

Poppy
Poppy ·

Hi Catman,
I'm not 100% sure of the time frame. I signed upto a house and land package and the delays were out of my control. I did have to get numerous extensions for the settlement of my land which was another nightmare.
I have a feeling it may be a timeframe of 1 year but I may be completely wrong.

I am thinking about building with Dreamstart but there are not many 2013 review's - anyone out there currently building with them?

jonthepom

We have not long finished building with them. I would give them 4 out of 5. They just seemed a little disorganised during the build, and a couple of issues we pointed out were not right during construction took overly long to be fixed up. Otherwise, reasonable customer service, reasonable tradesman used, nice house designs, well presented and finished, good quality furnishings and fittings.

I am currently building a house with them at the moment, check back at my comments if you wish. I just recently completed my slab work. Will also post up a blog on the progresses, quality, etc when it's complete. :)

Karen, if you are still thinking about building with Dreamstart and haven't done it yet, based on my experience so far, do it! yes, initially was wary (as per my review), but now, they are flying through it, nothing is too much hassle for them, we got a fantastic CSO, Supervisor as well as Area Manager who updates us about our progress constantly. Very good to deal with and ours are on track I believe to be the first house on the street to be completed, so cannot be happier. :) + with the house taking shape, it looks so blood good!

We are trying to get our deposit of $2000 paid to Dreamstart to build with them as our loan was not approved, they are not going to give us back our money because they say its used towards drawing up plans, shire approval and contracts being drawn and pre start and all that. Is this true? Can someone help me we are very disappointed as we have saved hard to only be dissapointed. They recommended the broker to us by the sales rep and the broker was confident we would get the loan. The Manager even told me he doesn't even like this broker and doesn't want the sales rep recommending him! Before u pay your money out make sure you get pre approval first as they won't give u your money back.

jonthepom
jonthepom ·

Sadly there are some initial outlays which are virtually impossible to get back - I would always recommend a broker that isn't involed with the building company in any way shape or form. You're more likely to get an unbiased opinion that way. I would recommend you get a new independant broker and ask them what you options are for getting your money back. I would also question the amount, given we only paid $1000 for the same services as you listed.

We were told the same thing about broker & were refused finance as well, ring the mortgage gallery in bunbury they are very helpful & our loan was approved in less than a week! So much for the broker that dreamstart recommend!

Linda43
Linda43 ·

Thanks it is so unfair it took us a long time to save and to loose $2000 is a lot of money for us. We think its a scam the sales rep recommends the broker and is confident u will get the loan meanwhile the building company are preparing the plans and so forth even though it was a off the plan and these are terrace homes which are all next to each other. Then to be told we would get our deposit back at the beginning of all this. Anyway loan gets declined and Dreamstart keep your money so unfair! I wouldn't recommend them
To anyone! Don't go through The Loan Company either. Anyway we are still fighting for our deposit back
