Very ugly result.
This paint dries in about 10 seconds so it is impossible to finish a simple kitchen cabinet door smooth, without brush marks and rugged paint marks. I tried thinning a little but no difference. It costs almost double then other paints.

Waste of money and time
This Paint produces horrible results using a brush application. It does not flow what so ever and leaves heavy brush marks. Bunnings should advise this to their customers when specifying it!
It will leave you frustrated and having to resanding your frames.

Only works if applied by spray
Rolling or brushing this paint leaves a lousy finish and is not worth bothering. It always shows brush lines or roller stipple. I use an airless sprayer and it goes on ok, with some caveats. Best results if you can lay the items flat, it smooths out to a brilliant finish, but upright doors and skirting boards, the finish is much more matte. The problem with airless though is it throws tails no matter what size tip or pressure I use, so it has to be watered down at least 15% which then causes runs. So, it’s a very frustrating product to use. I’ve heard Dulux Steriguard sprays without these issues, but will personally try Dulux Fast Finish next week. Aquanamel is also excessively expensive in Australia and coverage is poor to average.

Gluggy paint, doesn't flow and not good for brush work on trims at all.
After a bad experience with Dulux Super Enamel going yellow, I decided to switch to Dulux Aqua Enamel.
The paint is OK but extremely gluggy and difficult to make flow. So expect lots and lots of brush marks.
The paint has a very latex and stretchy feel to it. The finish is not good and it would honestly look better doing your trims in ceiling paint.
May be OK with a roller.
Since trying other brands of water based enamel for trims and windows, I would not recommend and will never use this paint again.

Always been a fan of Dulux unfortunately out of all the products that I’ve used this is the most frustrating.
I’m painting the rest our internal trims and doors, I used an another product from Berger for other parts of the house and thought I’d use dulux for the rest.
Being a spray painter by trade I would spray the flat panel doors
Following the recommended process for spraying only an unacceptable finish can only be achieved, the paint film is very orange peely and course, the paint just does not melt in like it’s supposed to.

Stay away, there are better paints and cheaper. Shocking product.
I have restored a few houses and have painted using a variety of brands. I must say that this paint is by far the worst i have come across. It goes tacky very quickly, i got the hang of it after a few tries but i only continued using it because i committed and bought a large tin and couldn't be bothered with returning it and having an argument at Bunnings. If you are new to painting, stay clear of this paint, as i said i have a lot of experience in renovations and this paint is not for beginners, you have to be quick and precise with the quan...Read more

Terrible coverage.
Bought Dulux paint as we perceived it as a premium brand to paint our new house. What a mistake that was. All products we used had very poor coverage and required multiple applications to achieve average results.
Switched to another brand and got the rest of the job done in a fraction of the time that it took to paint with Dulux.

I don't think this is a traditional gloss
Swear by Dulux all my 40 yrs of DIY but this aqua enamel gloss leaves a lot to be desired. Great prep with primer, 2 coats with light sand in between on doors and skirtings but the finish looks like an emulsion with a low sheen. Looks like remedial work and re-doing with the oil-based high gloss enamel. First complaint of Dulux in all my years - very disappointed.

They wrecked oil base now we have to put up with this rubbish
Im not like many others here as I've been a professional painter for 40 years, they have changed the formula in the oil based paint and the yellowing is happening within a month. We are now forced to use this rubbish, it's a step back in quality by a thousand percent. I can no longer hold my head high when I paint a house,I'm so ashamed it has come to this.

This paint should be TERMINATED
Like most posts I have really struggled with this paint on doors do get a smooth gloss finish without lines. It simply either dries too quick or if you put it on marginally heavy and think you have done a good job fast enough so it hasn't dried and balled, then you come back to find it has pooled like the mercury metal bad guy in the TERMINATOR movies. I agree this one might only be for the pros but I can't find one outside of sellers that like it. I will say when I walked back last time after being a lot happier and washing my roller only to r...Read more
eturn to find the mercury man was gathering himself in pools and making my future job of sanding back harder, I retrieved wet said roller ( micro fibre 4mm ) and rolled it wet. I had to do this a couple of times until I got some resemblance of an even finish. Just like the horse and cart in the past Dulux was the only way to go but I think they are still trying to sell me a horse that they say is as good as a car but doesn't eat. Fair enough but give me one that behaves like a car.Purchased in July 2021.

Excellent Product - not easy to use for non tradesman
I agree 100% with Pike. This is an excellent product for doors, skirting boards, reveals and architraves. Unfortunately, it's not easy to use and it should not be sold in home handyman outlets (you know the ones I mean), where 95% of the staff know nothing about the finer aspects of the painting trade and it shouldn't be sold to the general public, 95% of whom again don't know the finer aspects of the painting trade. an enough time on building sites and around people that know what they are doing over the past 50 years, to know more than the average home handyman. I can even go back to the days when you couldn't even buy water based paint, to paint your house. While the prep to use this product is important, the application of it is a lot more important. It goes "tacky" quite quickly, consequently YOU CANNOT KEEP BRUSHING IT OUT. You just need to put it on spread it out quickly with no more than 2 brush strokes over any section and then leave it and let it "float". It takes a bit of skill to know how much paint to put on so that it will "float" and "settle by itself", without continually trying to brush it out, which you cannot do. If you get it right this paint dries to a beautiful smooth finish with excellent durability. It has almost the durability of mineral based enamel and much better durability than the water based acrylics. You can thin it with "Dulux Hot Weather Thinner" which makes it more "workable" than the neat paint. You can thin to a maximum of 1 part thinner to 10 parts paint. Even with the thinners added you can't "overbrush" it. A better choice for those who aren't "skilled" painters is Dulux Wash & Wear Acrylic Gloss, or Semi Gloss. This isn't as durable as the water based enamel and won't be quite as glossy, but it's a lot easier to use. You can brush it out quite a bit more than the aquanamel. However, with any water based paint you can't just keep brushing away. Unfortunately a very good product has received 68 1 star ratings, predominantly from people who have no clue how to use the product and weren't given proper instruction on its use, by the retailer who sold it to them. You will pay a bit more for paint products at Dulux Trade Centres and specialists like Inspirations Paint, but you will get the right advice.Purchased at Inspirations Paint for A$98.00.

You have to learn from mistakes
I found trouble like others but did everyone follow the specks? I.e. useing precision max strenght primer underneath? I have spray doors on there flat using oil based primer then aquanamel. Looked great for about 10 mins before millions of tiny bubbles appeared. I still use the oil primer for its sandability to block flat then max strenght primer. I've been getting some flat finish with no orange peel almost like auto finish. I love it

Contrary to the popular opinion about this paint, I'll say it is a good product. Not great but good.
In my opinion, Dulux Aquanamel shouldn't be made available to the public (that can vent out on this site) in generic retail shops like Bunnings, but should only be sold exclusively at trade centres to qualified and skilled tradesmen that know how to use it, so general public can hire the latter to see the fruits of their labour.
I will not recommend someone without extensive painting experience to touch it. Forget it, look elsewhere. Same appl...Read more

Awful results with many coats on both oil and water based primers
I used a water based stain blocker (2 coats on wood windows) then coats aquanamel. Finish was terrrinle, bleed through was bad. I sanded right back to bare wood, used an oil based primer (2 coats, looked great) then tried aquanamel. After 4 coats I gave up. Finish very patchy. Used same system on door frames, on the 3rd coat (see images). I. Am going to sand back, use oil based primer and oil based topcoat because the finish is. Much better with just one coat of topcoat. The consistency is flour and water, I think I’d get better coverage if I did use flour and water tbh.
Also layers ripped off when removing masking tap. Chipped v easily.

Great results using this paint as normal
After having used aqua enamel in the past was surprised to read all the bad ratings.
This paint goes on well, providing you don't play with it too much. I used a 50mm brush with a quality foam roller and no issues. Having said that if you do over roll the paint, I noticed tiny bubbles in finish. Easily removed with light roll with no pressure.
Painted the bathroom in 3 hours - 2 coats as well. First coat dried in 2 hours as stated on tin.
My painting skill is pretty average and this paint made the task easy.

Questions & Answers
Peterasked
I built a wall unit and used Aquanamel gloss to finish. The MDF surface was already very smooth and after using Dulux sealer/undercoat I sanded meticulously. I diluted the Aquanamel with 100ml/L water as suggested and sprayed the first coat. ( 28psi using gravity feed gun with 1.4mm nozzle). You advise 20 minute touch dry and >4 hours re-coat. After 24 hours I sanded and recoated. The finish is OK but not brilliant. However the surface has remained tacky/sticky. After a few days of drying I put the unit in warm sunshine to try and complete the drying. It has improved a little, but remains sticky. It is dry to the touch but when the doors (also sprayed) stay in contact with the carcass they stick together.
I want to 3rd coat but feel I am wasting my time and energy. Not to mention ending up with a poor result after weeks of careful construction.
Is there a solution?

Hi.
I've painted all my doorjams and trims with Dulux aqua enamel and I love it. I got talked into doing the doors with taubmans ultimate enamel and the finish is horrible, it's meant to be the same colour yet it looks more yellow.
My question.
Can I paint the aqua enamel straight over the dry taubmans ultimate enamel or do I need to sand it right back and prep it again before I use the aqua enamel?
