Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.

Very disappointed, not worth the money.
We bought this Dyson after having 15 years faithful service from our previous Dyson.
We are extremely disappointed with the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Pro.
The problem with this one is mostly the emptying motion. It is like some fancy designer who has never used one got the contract. The bottom flops open and the barrel moves down just enough to cover the fine mesh filter making it difficult to clean out. Then it doesn't always clip back together properly. I am also wondering for the price why did they become so stingy with the cord length. It is about 2m shorter than the old unit and never seems to be just long enough.
The current Dyson cleaners are nowhere near the quality of earlier models. I would never buy one again.
Purchased in January 2021 at Betta Home Living for $900.00.

Do Not Buy Dyson, Never again Dyson
Never again Dyson. We have exhausted our patience with our Dyson cinetic big ball animal pro. Have been loyal Dyson customers for nearly 20 years, this is our 3rd Dyson vacuum, but the Animal Pro vacuum has too many faults, extremely disappointing for a very expensive machine, one would expect total reliability, but it is definitely not fit for purpose, does not do what it is advertised to do, that is to vacuum up dog hair. We bought the Dyson cinetic big ball Animal Pro because we wanted the Dyson pet groom attachment tool. Issues include but...Read more
not limited to not picking up dog hair, the reason vacuum was specifically purchased for, just blows dog hair up in air. Dog hair sticks to wand from static, resulting in continually having to turn off to wipe hair off wand to feed into vacuum. Does not vacuum up dust and hair off dry tiled floor. Does not collect dust and hair evenly in barrel, but sticks to top of barrel, which makes emptying messy. Barrel doesn’t fully empty, the clips on the barrel don’t secure properly thus spills contents back on to clean floor requiring the floors to be vacuumed again. I have emailed Dyson to advise them of these problems, that the Animal Pro is not fit for purpose and would appreciate a refund or replacement. Dyson have requested I send the Animal Pro to their service centre, but because of this costly exercise we do not wish to spend any more money on their inferior vacuum. We informed Dyson of our loyal customer of nearly 20 years with serial no of 1st purchase of DCO5 that was recalled by Dyson in 2006 due to Electrical Safety Recall. Then we paid Dyson additional money to upgrade to Dyson DC23. But Dyson are not interested in repaying out loyalty, but intent on insisting we return the Animal Pro for servicing, despite the faults not being serviceable. Dyson have forever lost our custom, we will now be replacing with another brand.Purchased in May 2021 at The Good Guys for $800.00.

Another bitterly disappointed Dyson customer...
Oh Dyson what has gone wrong! I had one of your first vacuums for many years and loved it! Sadly it died and I replaced it with this model. I am so very disappointed! The barrel never seems to close properly and I am forever having to use my stick Dyson to clean the mess that falls out of this vacuum. It is messy to empty. My carpets never feel like they are properly vacuumed and the carpet head does not have the range like the old vacuum. I have to continuously empty the barrel just to feel like I am getting some suction. I've rung a couple of...Read more
times only to have to wait for a long time to be told that others love this vacuum. Well I dont! I have been a loyal customer for many years, and we own a number of Dyson products. I will never buy another Dyson product. I'm not sure what has happened in the Dyson company for it to put out such a disappointing product. I can only assume Dyson has been sold to a bigger company so once again we see greed before customer satisfaction.Purchased at Dyson.

Bitterly disappointed
I paid $700 (on special) for this cleaner which was delivered in January 2018, I had an early model Dyson which was very loud but a great cleaner. A part broke but because of age of cleaner, replacement part not available. When we release the barrel on the new cleaner to empty it, it spits the contents on the floor. When the barrel is less than half full, the suction dies alarmingly and the cleaner has to be emptied. The cleaner is still under warranty but frankly I would prefer my money back. So disappointed! The cleaner is used on carpet and tiles. I bought this one as we have a cat. It does pick up the cat fur extremely well. But when you have to keep emptying it when it is not even half full, it is not worth it.
Purchased in January 2021 at David Jones Online Store for $700.00.

So Disappointed! Wish I'd read the Reviews!
We had to replace our beloved Dyson pull along recently which had lasted us over 8 years. We decided to splash out and buy the most expensive model expecting great things. To say we were disappointed is a huge understatement.
When I vacuum the turbo head is so close to the ground that it pushes the dirt instead of sucking it up. If I can get over it it sucks some up and then the rest comes out the back. The turbo head spins so fast it is constantly flicking out dirt. I have to vacuum the same piece of carpet multiple times and then it's still...Read more
not clean. This happens on both carpet and tiles. The opening latch on the barrel is not great and the barrel has opened all over my floor before I could get to the bin. Also the flap which opens to empty the vacuum does not clip on properly and you really have to push it hard to secure it. I imagine it will snap off soon. I have contacted Dyson about this vacuum as I have taken videos of it 'vacumming'. Waiting to hear back. Motor burnout after 3 years.
This is our second Dyson barrel vac. First one burnt the motor out after 7 years.
Purchased this supposedly bigger and better and more expensive machine 3 years ago. Motor has burnt out once again.
We have a Dyson handheld that gets more use than this and has had no issues.
I guess you don’t get what you pay for.
Purchased in June 2021 for $700.00.

Suction is amazing
I have 2 hairy pets and this product is a life saver. I have used 2 different brands before buying this in 2017 when my fist bub came along and I needed something that does the job properly since the animal fur was in the air!! and 3 years later still in good working condition and the only downside is that the smooth rotation stops when my hair gets stuck in the thing. overall, pretty good.

Poor design
This vacuum cleaner is horrible. it has ruined my wife’s birthday because the unloading mechanism is so sensitive that it dumps the contents on the floor. The bin is so small that we have to reach in to clear hair that is not dislodged by the opening mechanism. Dyson are trading on their goid name and we paid a premium for it. It is definitely not fit for purpose and we will be seeking a refund

I want my old Dyson upright back!!!
Previously had a Dyson upright, decided to upgrade as a xmas gift for the house 2 years ago. From the moment i used for the first time I disliked the new dyson ball. The pipe/wand and attachments are flimsy, and feel very cheap. Im always weary not to put to much pressure on them in case they break. I feel the older model upright Dyson did 100% better job and would revert back to an upright if they still made them.

Dyson Cinetic big ball animal pro.
Seriously disappointed in this vacuum considering how much it costs.
The suction is not very effective (despite emptying the barrel before needing to).
I feel like it just moves the crumbs around the carpet as opposed to vacuuming them up.
My old Hoover did a significantly better job and it was literally half the price.
A few positives about this machine..
1) The vacuum always remains upright (due to its ball shape).
2) Comes with lots of attachments for different uses.
3) The vacuum hose never kinks.

Worst ever vacuum I've ever brought
Firstly, the cleaning shut lid. Its so easily come undone the moment you pick the barrel up to go empty the dirt content.
the power suction is weak, the noise it makes is too loud, it doesn't pick up fluff or animal hair first go but 3 to 5 times over the same area before you can't see any fluff or hair, the connectors holder doesn't stay where it is but slides down the extension handle or pipe and it so easily get clogged up which is disappointing since you have to constantly stop and clean it before you can continue your cleaning.

Absolutely dusgusted
I had a stick vacuum by dyson and loved it until it died, so decided to go out on a limb and purchase the dyson animal pro big ball cinetic for $959, had to convince partner it's worth the investment. Wow I was so very wrong.
After a few months, the wheel came off, sent back to them and it was repaired under warranty.
Then a few months later the retractable cord wouldn't go back in. So wasnt off too a good start. Then the turbo head brush came off in pieces, spits food back on hard floor,
Overall extremely disappointed. I blame myself for t...Read more

DO NOT recommend!!
Having had a dc29 for nearly 10 years i excitedly purchased the cordless v10, which is amazing.
Then, due to the size of our house and the frequent vacuuming we purchased a big ball pro.
Mistake! Worst things about it:
1. It’s build quality is poor. The power button and the cord retract button are flimsy plastic just waiting to break.
2. The dust cannistee does not easily seal and the clip is very flimsy, several times now I have removed the dust canister to empty it and it has opened all over the clean floor! Crazy!

Very disappointed
Two main weaknesses - the clip that stops the dirty contents falling out the bottom of the barrel (as used to empty the cleaner) comes loose very easily as it's so flimsy - many times this has happened when carrying the barrel to the outside bin and contents of barrel end up all over the floor. Secondly, when vacuuming carpet, carpet fluff builds up around nozzle head and inside the connection cylinders which has to be removed manually quite frequently and is not easy to do.

Great vacuum
We bought this to replace an old Dyson which had served us well for 15 years. As I expected it vacuums well with strong suction. The unit is lightweight and moves around easily.
Some of the parts appear to be flimsier than the old machine- the power button, the cord rewind button and the stand to hold the head up when not in use. It feels like they will not be long lasting, but nothing has happened yet.
The lady at Good Guys was very kind and showed me this model compared to the other Dyson models without the spinning head. This one moves e...Read more

Love my Dyson!
Love the Dyson Big Ball vac! It’s easy and light weight to maneuver and just as easy to empty! The suction power is like no other I have ever used and cleaning is thorough. I find all the connections that come with the vacuum useful for different areas of cleaning. The adjustable stick is also great for getting into hard to reach places and also convenient to suit the user’s height!
I also love that it takes a few sessions before the barrel needs to be emptied!! The floor head works a treat on tiles too!

Love it a lot, great for deep cleaning!
This is my go to vacuum for big cleans, it comes with so many attachments and the large brush is perfect for blinds, gentle enough to be quick and sucks the dust straight up, I also use it for skirting boards as well.
The carpet head is great but I don't find it works well on a flat tight loop carpet, but on plush carpets is amazing. The hard floor tool is great it's short enough to get under every low cabinet bed or fridge. It is much easier to clean than the older turbine heads. I do think that I prefer my fluffy for everyday cleaning, I'm hoping to buy the v10 soon as I find the fluffy doesn't last long enough for a big home.

Questions & Answers

We’ve had our Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Pro for about 2 years now and have just moved from a place that had wall to wall carpet, to a place that has no carpet and newly-installed hardwood floors. Three questions: 1 & 2. What are the wheels on the unit itself made from and are they ok to pull along the hardwood floor without scratching at all? 3. What are the best tools to use as not to scratch the floor? Thanks!
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
The wheels on your Dyson Cinetic Big Ball machine are made of plastic, with a softer plastic tip on the sides.
While we don't anticipate any difficulties, we would encourage ensuring the wheels are clean prior to use.
For the most delicate cleaning of hard floors, we would encourage using the Swivel Hard Floor Tool, included with your Big Ball Animal Pro.

Our power head was accidentally taken over a smelly liquid on the floor and now the brush head smells, can we wash it?
3 answers
I’m no expert just someone who purchased one recently. Pretty sure the Dyson rep said not to submerge it in water when washing it. I hunk get said he usual damp cloth wipe over. You probably should actually call Dyson and ask them in case there’s electrical stuff in the head that’ll get damaged if wet. Such a pain that this has happened to you. I hope you manage to get it sorted out ok! Goodluck!
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Amanda,
The Turbine head for your machine does not have any electrics as it is driven by the air of the machine, that being said we do not recommend completely submerging the head in water as if not completely dry when used again it will damage the machine.
Try using a damp cloth and if the smell remains please call our helpline on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy.
Our helpline is open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm and on the weekend 8.30am-4pm.
Best wishes,
Sam

I hope so Judith because I literally cannot use mine . It is only a newish machine and the smell is just awful .

We are sorry to hear a smell is coming from your Dyson machine.
Should any form of liquid, damp material or anything pungent enter the machine, this may cause it to harbour a smell. We recommend carrying out the following steps which may dispel any odour.
After emptying, wipe the bin with a soft moist cloth. Please don't remove the bin inner or cone seals whilst washing the clear bin and most importantly ensure that the clear bin is completely dry before placing back onto the machine. Please note that the cyclone top assembly, which attaches on top of the bin, must be removed and is not washable, however can be wiped with a soft dry cloth.
We also recommend to let the hose, floor tool, wand, cyclone and bin of your machine air out for 24-48 hours, ideally somewhere safe, dry and sunny.
If you need further assistance please call us on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.
