Big Regret.
This will be a bit of a story, but bear with me, because it is 100% true. Or otherwise scroll to the bottom for a really quick quantitative summary of my thoughts.
So roughly 20 years ago, my parents bought a gigantic yellow Electrolux vacuum cleaner - one of those with the disposable paper bag filtration systems. I don't really remember much because I was very young, but every spring clean since I can remember, I would vacuum all two stories of the house (we have a rich, cream carpet) while my sister would mop the floors. This invincible behe...Read more
moth of a vacuum cleaner lasted us until somewhere around 2016-2017 when we ran out of the paper bags (we kept buying refills, but by this time we figured it was time to get a new machine. The Electrolux actually still worked). We heard all about this fancy new brand, and everybody seemed to love it, so we figured we'd give it a try. Assuming it'd last another 15-20 years, we forked out somewhere around $800 - an investment - for a Dyson DC54. I remember we were so excited to try out the new machine, due in no small amount to its unique and intriguing design. At first it was ok, maybe a little less power than we were expecting, but now, in a few years' time, it hardly even picks up visible lint/bits and pieces and dust from the carpet. I also kept hearing a sound around where the removable cartridge connects with the body of the machine like escaping wind, and the cleaner barely even left those triangular streaky patterns on the carpet that the old vacuum would leave. After cleaning 8 rooms + staircase, the cartridge isn't even half-full. At the time, I also found myself missing the old disposable bags, because the removable cartridge was difficult and finicky to open and clean, and I'd have to go at it with a brush. So yesterday, we went out and bought a new Electrolux Pure C9 Animal, and less than a week after going through the house with the Dyson, I had to pause empty the cartridge 4 times because there was so much dust the Dyson wasn't picking up. There is so much to say. The cartridge empties instantly - it's easier to remove from the body, and it's also a simple shape so opening the bottom instantly empties all the dust into the bin, where the Dyson actually needed me to bang a few times and have a brush handy (guess cartridges are good after all; it was just poor design from Dyson). The electrical cord is much longer so I can actually do the stairs in one go, the cleaner is so much more powerful - the cartridge fills up with dust amazingly quickly, the handheld part is easier to extend and collapse, and the best part - we paid half the price that I did for the Dyson.

Life changing
I got my first Dyson in 2010. And only just replaced it now in 2020 (still working never replacing any parts) Having a inside/out side pet (really dislike pets inside) It was truly amazing. Loads of power a pleasure to use making you vacuum more often and a tru no filter or bag design is so hassle free (could not imagine buying bags or cleaning filters now). And the multi floor head (Is key) ment that you could Vac the whole house in record time. Was it flawless in all aspects no but it was far better than anything els that I looked at then and even now. I’ll never get anything els. Vacuuming is a job always will be but the satisfaction that a Dyson gives makes up for a lot of that.
Purchased in December 2021 at Harvey Norman for $700.00.

Not as good as older Dyson’s
I didn’t even think of buying a different brand of vacuum after my DC05. That vacuum was unreal. Purchased the DC54 Animal Complete as it’s replacement and at first it was great. About 3 months later it had loss a lot of its suction. There are no blockages but the handle assy flexing allows gaps. Even when I’ve removed the tube and tried bypass the motor still seems to have lost its suction. The DC05 even after 9yrs was better than this one. Looking at buying a new motor for the DC05 and getting rid of the 54. Not happy after paying so much for the 54

ALL THE BAD REVIEWS ON THIS ONE ARE SPOT ON
After purchasing my first Dyson and having it last for years and being more than impressed with it, I purchased my second Dyson - the DC54. Right from the beginning it was not even close in the amount of dirt and dust it would suction up. the Spinning head constantly needs cleaning in spite of it being specifically for pet hair. The suction is terrible. I have sworn to never buy a Dyson again. At POS it was told that my expensive heads purchased separately with my previous vacuum would definitely fit and be able to be used. That was not the cas...Read more
e. The dust housing is flimsy at best and has to be handled gently. I could have bought a cheap vacuum and had the same result so why waste money on another Dyson. All of the reviews posted on this exact same issue should have had Dyson recall this product as everyone seems to be reporting the same issues.Purchased at The Good Guys for $899.00.

Dyson DC54 Animal Pro
We have had out Dyson DC54 Animal Pro for about 5 years now and it still works wonders. Although I never felt this barrel vacuum cleaned as well as mums upright Dyson.
The attachments come in handy and we have used the vacuum on harder flooring surfaces, tiles, lino and foor boards. We do have some rugs that clean up well with the carpeting attachment though this has worn over the years with minimal use. The other attachments have lasted the distance and come in handy when vacuuming the car, and the mattress etc.

We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your machine.
Understanding you have checked the machine, we would recommend viewing this video to ensure all areas have been checked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PheQ00a_urU.... Read more
In addition to this, we recommend to remove the brushbar and check the cleanerhead for any blockages. To do this, remove the brushbar using a ten or twenty cent coin to twist the cap at the end of the cleanerhead that retains the brushbar counterclockwise (as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpXtMpytFJc). Once done, you will be able to remove both the cap and the brushbar. Please then check the cavity where the brushbar was in the cleanerhead and clear out any debris. You should be able to look through the neck of the head and see straight through. Please then reassemble and retry the turbine. This should help get your machine back up and running, however if not or if we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via [email protected] and happy to help.Similar opinion? Not as good as old upright dyson
To begin, all previous cheaper model vacuums I've owned, have lasted a maximum of 2 years. I've had this machine for quite some time. This is my second Dyson. I use it on carpets. I tried it on vinyl flooring when first purchased, but didn't think it did that great of a job. The previous machine I owned was a DC 14 and I loved that machine. It was easy to use and I had no issues whatsoever with that until the motor finally died. I loved how sturdy it was as well. When looking for my current machine I went with the barrel as I felt that...Read more
the newer uprights at the time weren't as sturdy (when playing around with one in store) I must say that I prefer the upright. The barrel tends to fall onto its side when going around corners. The motor on this machine is still going strong but over time I've had to purchase replacement parts. The first was a new head. The turbine head was an absolute pain to open to clean the bristles, and in the end the bristles came off. I purchased a musclehead this time and have had no issues with that so far. In June 2022, the handle snapped so I purchased a new one of those as well from the dyson website. The cannister is an absolute pain to empty. I use a butter knife to dislodge it into the bin. Always end up sweeping the floor afterwards. I would love to purchase one of those scraper gadgets but I can't add one to the cart on the website. It says I have to ring to enquire. How annoying!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Taking them to court
We had nothing but issues with this vacuum and after many times of being it repaired and motor replacements, this time the motor has gone again in exactly 12 months when I was infact advised this motor would have warranty. But still they want to hit me UP with more costs and replacing the motor... They have said to us apparently we are not maintaining the cyclone filters and then when I told them that the reason we purchased this vacuum was that it was maintenance free all we had to was empty out the bin and clean around the cyclones Area (appa...Read more
rently no!! you have to go beyond this and open up behind the cyclones), [name removed] from customer relations told us apparently there is a chip on the top and caused the motor to die haha this is the silliest excuse from a untrained customer relations worker, Please come up with something more logical and believable. As a person who has a background in engineering I can tell you this is no where near the truth, this phone call was recorded and I have proof also given them many options and now I am willing to prove to these big companies that you will not get away with it and I am now proceeding legal action including getting a hold of all news agencies to show Australia what Dyson is about, have already emailed a current affair, a petition will be started online against dyson on the way they honour their warranty with all the proof I have and also will flood social media with the dodgy business practices of Dyson. Let's see how much a few hundred dollars will cost them in the long run.. We as the consumers have had enough of the big guys screwing the consumers.. I would not recommend any Dyson product to anyone,it might look nice and fancy but the way they handle a faulty product is absolutely rubbish. I beg you dear reader to think twice about this brandPurchased in February 2021 for $899.00.

Good when new. Terrible now.
Worked great when we bought it. Then after a while the head stopped working, it just got clogged with hair every time. The clip that holds the bin shut is broken. The motor is starting to wheeze now like it's got a lung infection. The handle is broken. One of the arms holding the rollers broke so now it's lop-sided and tips over all the time. Another annoying thing is if something odd shaped gets sucked up, it gets stuck in the part where they've changed the pipe from round to squashed. So you find yourself stopping to clear it's throat all the time.
Overall, a very frustrating expensive vacuum.

Very Very Poor Customer Service
So this vacuum cleaner failed after a couple of years. When you pay $800 for a vacuum cleaner you expect to last. BUT the real problem is trying to get it fixed. The support line is non existent. You call and they say 2 hours wait time. You can't take it into to a service centre without it being booked in.
There is an option to have a call back after a wait. If you select that, no one calls you back.
I've sent them emails, facebook messages and nothing. Absolutely pathetic.

What a waste of money..
This machine is expensive and poorly made. We vacuum carpet and hard floors. On the hard floor the head does not pick up anything more than dust.. The spinning brush tangles up with hair and the small wheels on the unit also jam with hair.. On empting the unit stuff goes everywhere. The spinning brush head now is worn and spares seem unavailable. What a waste of money..

Biggest Load of Rubbish
After 15 years of flawless performance from my Nilfisk King, I was talked into trying a Dyson, as they are just the be all and end all of vacuum cleaners. What a mistake that was... While the machine is quite compact for storage, the performance is worse than a $50 Kmart special. On a hard floor dirt is generally just pushed around and only vacuumed when the head is constantly lifted an placed on it, so is probably more effective without a head at all.
I'm not sure I understand the benefit of the whole bag free advantage. I have gone from easi...Read more

Works well but has its drawback
The vac is grate on carpet. it is a bit fly away on my wood floors but I don't change heads. the power head on mine after 2 years broke(just out of my warranty), but I picked an oem one from aliexpress for $20 that has lasted longer. The vacuum did not meet my needs in way of filtering the air it is terrible at spreading dirty air. My son can not be in the house when I am using it, saying that it is better than the older bag vacuum we use to have but ultimately I would like one with a change out easy refill hep-a filter

My wife brought a dc54 for $ 800 thinking these were the top vacuum cleaner. After 5 years.the turbine head stopped spinning . i cleaned the vacuum and then strip the turbine head and it has stripped the gear under the inner belt. Now it will cost $135 to buy a new head.Unfortunatly we have 2 dysons and i wonder how long the other one will last.Very pricy vacuum cleaner but very poor quality.

The Dyson 54 ‘Animal’
The Dyson. The Animal. The ‘must have’ vacuum cleaner. Every second person recommends one, so therefore It must be good... right?
Well it’s just that sort of mentality that will land you with endless years of regret and frustration. So much so I have imagined every possible scenario of its death. Wishing it a violent death however does not make up for the betrayal by a large greedy and somewhat clever company. You see it’s in the marketing where they begin to lure their victims into a false sense of hope and security. ...Read more

Terrible.
I have had problems with blockages at the entrance to the main portion containing the motor -- the motor to emit a burning smell-- I rang Dyson- out of warranty ( 2 year in Aust 5 in the US ) they say send it to repair people who will then charge me for replacement parts--- the DC54 has been taken off the market as it is unfit for purpose, yet Dyson are still refusing to compensate ---- they stink and their customer service is a fraud

This'll be the end of me...
I love using the old DC19... Its awesome the end.
The DC54 is just a great pile of steaming fail from Dyson!
The motor head brushes have fallen off, the motor head just gets clogged up and the little filter on its side we'll just clogs up with dust and that needs cleaning every couple of minutes on its own.
The barrel itself isn't easy to empty in a plastic bag either, it needs a chopstick to help dislodge stuff stuck further up the barrel towards the top - once that's done you've A - covered yourself in dust and god knows what else B ...Read more
- covered the barrel in dust and C - lightly ashed the neighbourhood in your floor fluff... Moving onto another personal hate of this vacuum - the plastic floor broom shaft - whoever changed that from aluminium to plastic to save the possible $10 in profit hang your head in shame... This foray down cheapskate lane now llows static electricity to cling dust to its entire length - which means you are sprinkling dust over the areas you've just cleaned... So you need to stop and get the crevice tools brush and clean it every 5 minutes too... More cleaning of the vacuum cleaner than the floor again - in comparison the DC19 just does an exemplary job and needs minimal fuss to its job...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Dont buy if you have Children!
We have had the vacuum for over 2 years and over this time have experienced quite a lot with this Vacuum.
Lets start with the PRO
* Great suction when new and clean
* Excellent powerhead that lifts up dust and dirt from carpet
* Nice and small and lightweight, perfect for elderly
Now with the CON
* Brush head spinny thing (that thing that spins on the carpet) needs to be replaced every year
* Cant suck anything bigger than a 0.5cm cubed object

Good when new but would never buy another.
Great when new, as anything is. It does occasionally tip over which is a pain. However over the years it is problematic with suction and even being regularly disassembled and cleaned no where near as good as a 15 year old Bissell bagless that I still have. The Dyson is cumbersome to disassemble to get the lid off to clean inside and getting down into the area with the nozzles you get so dirty. The design of the barrel is not good for something larger than a peppercorn as things jam inside it and cat hair and the like backs up behind the blocka...Read more
ge. The barrel is too small for a decent room to be done, actually the size and the quantity that the barrel holds is a bad joke. Have to empty it after one room. The Bissell we have does the whole house and is so simple and clean to empty.Wife wanted to try it but even she is now saying that it's not a good vacuum cleaner. Would never buy another Dyson. For over $600 it's the biggest ripoff yet and had I known more about consumer law back then it would have gone straight back for a FULL REFUND under ACL as the item IS NOT FIT FOR THE PURPOSE.Similar opinion? Will brush head off dc26 FITB my dc54

Dyson Team ..Dyson
The DC26 and DC54 machines share the same type of connector, so any accessories that came with your DC26 will fit the DC54. That being said, we would encourage using the cleaner head that came with each machine. This is as they are each optimised for the type of machine they came with. While they will fit across both machines, the performance may not be optimal.
If we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via [email protected] and happy to help.
