Almost perfect
This is a fantastic line trimmer. Bottom end professional unit, with a 5 year domestic use warranty. I love it. It is VERY LIGHT compared to the dominant brand for similar power, so is perfect for edging. Warranty requires use of a JASO FC or FD 2 stroke oil (I use Penrite MC2ST), not a specific brand of oil (like some other brands).
A genuine speed feed head would be the only improvement I would make, to make changing the line easier. I have tried an aftermarket speed feed head, but it alters the string position and increases vibration. When
... Read more this head wears out, I will need to buy an OEM speed feed or another G138. The line is, however, simple enough to change - I am using Desert Extrusions Trailblazer (2.4mm because I had it already, but am going to look for some Vortex 2.0mm). As for the one star review about changing the head: 1 Remember this is a LEFT HAND thread (i.e. NOT "lefty loosey, righty tighty" but undo clockwise). 2 It does have a hole to insert a tool into the gearbox to stop the head turning (pictures below) 3 It is supplied with the tool 4 There is a spring on the gearbox to hold the tool in place UPDATE: the GA Spares BRN6839 head includes the countersunk arbor necessary for this trimmer. It is an excellent replacement head available from mower shops and eBay. Make sure to get newer stock with the countersunk arbor. It is a speed feed style head. The OEM Speed Feed I have only been able to locate from international sellers on eBay and AmazonPoor Customer Service and inferior product
I bought an SRM 222ES edge trimmer from Bunnings Dec 2021. The time came when I wanted to replace the trim-head. Most machines (including most Echo trimmers) provide an easy access hole to lock the head gears while the trim-head is unscrewed. I rang Briggs & Stratton, Echo's Australian representative, multiple times to ask how this was done because there is nothing on how to do it in the manual. Turns out with this device there is no easy removal; you have to manually dismantle the entire gear shaft. Moreover, even though Echo advertises this model fits the SpeedFeed head, it doesn't. I am appalled with Echo's customer service. Never buying another. Do not buy is my strong advice.

Ripper whipper snipper!
I bought this trimmer because I also have an older echo 510 es brush cutter that starts first time every time, but it’s a full on professional machine with a blade and it’s too serious for the backyard trimming edges.
The little 222es surprised me so much with its power, light weight and ease of handling that I probably won’t pick up its big brother much anymore.
It’s got a very nice 2stroke engine note, although noisier than comparable 4 stroke machines it sounds great and for me that alone improves my gardening experience tenfold…
Easy pull start, Hard to start.
Very lite and well balanced to hold. Minimal vibration however grip gloves are required for the smooth plastic handle. Has a patented device to make it easier to pull the cord. Not much force needed however it rarly starts first or second go like previous machines I have had. Average is 6 pulls cold or 3-4 hot. Very tempromental and I have found starting problems increase if the Air filter is slightly dirty. The air filter is very good quality and will keep the carby clean but needs regular attention even if it looks clean. Perfect for light ed

Good on fuel so you can get a allot done even on the small 300ml tank. Good build quality but at a premium price backed with a 5 year warranty for any major manufacture fault. Recommned you stick with the Echo oil as it is of excellent specs.Find out how Echo SRM-222ES compares to other Petrol Whipper Snippers

Outstanding and EASY to Start
I love the Echo SRM-222ES. After encountering ongoing starting problems with my Honda 4 stroke ( Carburetor, Fuel Lines, Spark Plugs etc ) and just wanting to do the the edges and not mess around for 20-30 minutes starting the Honda, my wife told me to buy a new whipper snipper. So glad I followed the reviews on Product Review and bought the Echo.
The Echo is Sooooo easy to start - even after not being used for a few months. First pull with Choke on and then 1/2 choke starts it . Consistently so easy. It is lighter than the 4 stroke which i
Above expectations.
This thing may be designed in Japan, but I think it’s built in hell itself. It’s a beast! Easy to start, light, with a powerful motor that feels like it would be happy to run hard all day. Additionally, due to some kind of voodoo, this beauty uses very little cord. We are on a large property, and after putting this thing through it’s paces on thick veg, I would have no problems recommending this edger to anyone who needs a tool, and not a toy. Excellent.

Bought this(31/07/21) from bunnings after giving away my first echo trimmer to my inlaw prior to migrating to australia, gave away my second echo trimmer after a relative borrowed it and was impress with its performance, the weight and balance, how it starts effortlessly with a great build quality. Hopefully this one will stay forever but if you want to save money in the long run, than any echo trimmer will serve you right. You won’t be disappointed, your money and time will not be wasted.

Questions & Answers
Wha is the part number for a cutting blade that suits my Echo SRM 222ES/L line trimmer? I live in South Australia and I presume I trot along to Bunnings to place a special order. The Echo AU catalogue does not appear to list blades.
Are the echo SRM 222ES suitable for commercial use ?
I am not a commercial user. It has a 5 year domestic and 2 year commercial warranty. I understand it has a flexible shaft whereas the next unit up has a solid shaft. You also should budget to purchase a speed feed head. I have a GA spares speed feed head, and they supplied me with a new arbor as the ones in the kit weren’t suitable, but they told me they were going start including it. I would recommend that you get a genuine echo speed feed though. I love mine because it is light and ideal for edges. I would recommend it, especially as a starter because it is ideal for edging and it will easily pay for itself, but please compare price of next model up as that one has a solid shaft and includes a speed feed head.
I also recommend the desert extrusions twisted line.
Make sure to use a JASO FD 2 stroke oil. I use the Penrite MC2ST full synthetic.
