Ecosmart dux hot water horrible
I bought this heater 5 years ago for about $6000. It had been giving me problems and costing me a lot. I have already spent $1000 on repair. Please think twice before bying this heater. Model number EN15DS

Waste of $6500
We purchased our hot water system 4 1/2 years ago and are having nothing but trouble with it now. We live 1 1/2 hours from any service area.
If you decide to install one of these systems really read the fine print of your warranty. Pump is only covered for 12 months which is bad for a system worth this amount of money. You have to pay travel and labour if any work is carried out on the system as well. We had a electrician and plumber come out to fix our hot water system and charged $600 + and now 3 months later the system is doing the same thi...Read more
ng. We are on tank water and we lost 3 rings of water from the tank because the pipe coming outside from the system was pouring out water while we were at work. I wish we would of installed a Solarhart system as this Ecosmart system is just costing us money instead of saving money on our power bill. Our hot water was only $200/quarter so we needed this hot water system to have no problems for at least 8 years to make a difference to our savings on power bill. Extremely disappointed with what is covered under warranty and what you have to pay if anything goes wrong with it.

Limited life expectancy and noisy.
We had built a new project home 3 years ago and the builder fitted an Ecosmart Heat Pump Water Heater, electric powered. It always was noisy when running but we found after a time it became really rattly and noisy and within 3 years, to the day, had rusted and leaking water. We have now had to have it removed and replaced with a normal hot water system. Whilst the concept of the Ecosmart sounded good it was not practical and now has cost us a fortune to replace with a proper system. I am told the builder does now not install this product. If we had known we'd have used a normal system - the Ecosmart was a waste of money. Avoid this product at all costs!

Not working perfectly
I have the Model: EN15DS hybrid solar water heater system. Week ago it stopped working. Noticed the power to the gas booster is not working. The system was installed by our home builder's plumbing contractor. I had to call the home builder to find out which plumber installed the unit. Unfortunately it's now over 3 yrs ago my builder doesn't have any details of where they purchased it but they directed me to contact Dux (main company who owns this product line) to get a service call. While I was on their website I noticed they have recall notic...Read more
e for various models. If you have one of these models I would contact them to get it serviced. http://recall.dux.com.au . Affected models are DN15DS, DL15DS, DN15CS, 3D1NE, EN15DS, EL15DS. Overall for the last 3 yrs I never had a problem with the unit however I noticed some sort of water leak with rusted stain outside. Then a week ago it stopped working. I unplugged the unit from the power & waited while then it came back to live. Then again it happened again. When I contacted their service I was directed to contact a local plumber as the unit is now outside warranty. Currently I am waiting to hear from the product recall team. I will post another review update. There's a lengthy product recall from product safety Australia. https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall/dux-manufacturing-ltd-dux-sunpro-mp15-ecosmart-intelligent-hybrid-solar-gas-boosted-water-heaters ** update to this review. I received a response from Ecosmart customer service. According to their service mine is not covered under the recall even though the recall doesn't say anything about a year. It says all of the models mentioned on the list. Disappointed in their service. Dear Pri, It was for only 2013 manufactured models only, as such your unit was manufactured in 2012 and not on the recall product list. We have a list against all serial numbers that required to be recall, your serial number is not on our list as it is a 2012 model and not needed to be recall.1 comment

EcoSmart and Dux heaps of stress and cost us lots of money.
Lasted 4 years 11months solar collectors still under warranty. Perchase $4,336,00. COST OF REPAIRS TO DATE $969.00. NOW NOT WORKING to replace pump looking around $1,000. But panels dont look like they are going to last 6 months they are starting to leak. Now we are running out of hot water, we had to switch to normal electricity in stead of off peak electricity. Complained about panels coroding 13 months after installation. Corrosion looks heaps worse now. Wouldnt spend another dollar on it. Only one problem I have to see it every day. So I say not to buy Dux/ EcoSmart.

Worse mistake ever purchased eco smart pump mid 2011 cost of nearly $4000 . I am extreme disgusted that I now have to purchase a new hot water tank as the eco has rusted within and my hot water is a brownish colour .Was told by the salesman the the eco smartheat pump would save me money in the long run .In fact it was the worse decision now costing me another $1600 to install new tank NOT ECO .How can you justify this.

only a 5 year warranty for a Hot Water Service
Have had solar hot Water service for just over 5 years, paid $7000.00 for it and it has failed/ needs replacing. It makes loud noises when the water is turned on and the water smells that bad you wouldn't shower in it. Phone the company to be told that it is only a 5yr warranty on a 415ltr WOW first time I've known a hot water service to only be a 5 year warranty and not 10yrs. Would not encourage anyone to spend that amount of money for a product with a 5yr warranty.

A BAD Choice for Solar Hot Water and installer
I had a SOLARHART hot water heater on my roof for 32 years and did not have any trouble until the cylinder started leaking. Solarhart are a simple system of water heating and rising and cold water in the bottom.
I had a Ecosmart tank installed with tank on ground which needs a complicated "hotlogic' controller which has many functions to go wrong.
The installer from Wagga did not install it in the correct position - it uses about 8 to 10 litres of water to reach the kitchen and laundry, damaged the roof, valves kept blocking up with plumbe...Read more

Eco smart not so smart
I last reviewed Ecssmart on the 29/9/2014 since then I've fixed the anti frost valves some whot by covering the values loosely with a bit of braderofd but installation over the hotter months to stop them expanding to much another ways they do not contact back to normal size and will leak in cooler months make sure installation is loose so water can escape. The booster light was on most of the time to fix that have a look at the hot water tank in the middle of the day when the sun in shining, on the side of tank there is a clear glass tube, with...Read more
a white float inside it and numbers 1 to 4 turn off power cord next to tank not main power at meter box. Have someone watch the bubble in glass if it does move by switching off for a couple of seconds and back on the expeller is probably full off carbon and scale deposited stopping it from rotating. To fix this turn off power at mains and drain water from the tank by turning water off a meter and turn hot water taps on inside to drain tank. On the left hand side of tank you will see a round brarce fitting with to pipes coming out of it. Unscrew the brarce fitting and pull out expeller and soak in CRC over night and that should free it up with a couple of lite taps replace everything think in reverse order, turn water back on at meter leaving one hot water tap on in side to get rid of air in tank when water tank is full water will come out of tap normally no splattering. Turn power back on at meter and next to hot water tank I hope you find this helpful WARNING. I am not a solar hot water expert there's are only suggestions.Similar opinion? Don't even look at ECOsmart
We had a rooftop solar system with two panels installed 5-6 years ago & every year we have had to spend money on this. Warranty work is non existent & if there was updates to the system you have to pay for the parts & installation.
As for the franchise in the Hawksbury that sells them, they wouldn't give you the time of day.

Biggest waste of money
We had our ecosmart system (gas boosted) installed about 3 and a half years ago. Since then, we have had nothing but problems. Within the first 6 months dux called us to let us know they had identified a faulty part and would need to replace it. 12 months after that, same story. We then had a solarnoid stop working about 8 months ago and called the office everyday for over a week, and emailed. When they eventually got back to us, the excuse was that they were busy. That whole time we had zero hot water. The plumber came to replace the part and ...Read more
charged us about $600. I am now 40 weeks pregnant and have had no hotwater for a week. We had an independent plumber come to look and he said he would go nowhere near the system! Ecosmart not worth the money
We have had our Ecosmart solar (electric boosted) hot water system for under two years and for the past four or so months, we have had little or no hot water from the solar component. Our electric booster has been on constantly and, hence we are paying for electric hot water. Not happy, particularly when we paid over $6000 for the Ecosmart system. I have contacted the dealer numerous times, and they are sending a plumber this week to inspect the system - plumber believes we will need new parts. This, of course will incur significant costs to us. This product has not lived up to its promotion (mainly from salesman) and we would have been better installing a cheap electric system.

False claims by EcoSmart
We installed an EcoSmart Solar HWS about 5 months ago. The EcoSmart dealer at Swansea NSW told us that we could turn off our HWS switch at the meter box, and during summer there would not be any HWS electricity costs. When I contacted EcoSmart warranty section they told me both statements were untrue, and that I should have checked this out independently. The panel was coming apart and the plumber they referred me to had to replace the pump, solar panel, relief valve and something else. I also found out through them that if any fault was cause...Read more
d by incorrect installation I was not covered. The installer was the one the one they sent to do the job. To make matters worse when I told them that I only had about a third saving in my hot water costs, about $23 for the summer quarter, they said that that was normal. I compared it with the same summer quarter last year Because I was not familiar with the terminology etc. on my electricity account the sales person said our HWS costs were about 60% of the total bill. When I looked into it with the supplier it was about 10%. Then I find out that the five yearly service cost is $440. On a yearly basis, this plus at least some unknown as yet electricity costs, means I am paying more for my hot water than the electric system which had never broken down. That is assuming I have no more breakdowns. Given the record to date over five months that does not look good Despite my attempts to contact the sales person over many weeks they did not return calls. When I told the warranty person that, they said that they had been having the same problem. Therefore as the warranty person said don't believe everything you are told, even by their own representative. Don't be fooled by the sales talk as we were. I can see there being arguments every time there is a breakdown. How often does your electric system break down? Do not make a bad investment decision with EcoSmart like I did. Reverting to my old system would leave holes on the roof and walls etc. totally conned by EcoSmart which I now find out is in fact Dux. Hope this helps other peopleSimilar opinion? cess water bills. I have replaced these parts twice so far with the last one only being replaced nine months ago. These parts cost me $300 each time and I now have to replaced the new one again along with another one. That will bring the cost for the same part to $1200, when I go to see the supplier he always say's that the parts are not under warranty. Eco smart (not so smart) choose to ignore these reviews maybe we should try fair trading. I would not recommend this inferia product.3 comments

Saves on Electricity Charges but doesnt save you money
We installed a Natural Gas Boosted Solar Hot water system in 2009 at a cost of over $9000 and we received Govt subsidies of about $2500, so our part of the payment was just over $6000. EcoSmart advertise that you get your hot water free for 295 days of the year. The claim is that Hot water accounts for 60% of your electricity bill. Because of the rise in electricity charges we lost any advantage from first quarter in the rise of electricity charges in particular the access charges which typically stand at about $1 per day.

I have called Ecosmart as of last week (May 2018) and no, they definitely do not exist any more. I was referred to Dux, who basically have nothing to do with Ecosmart. We still endure barely luke warm water, and we have spent over $600 on the system in the last few months. What has everyone done with their Ecosmart systems? Are any parts of it salvageable, ie can the panels or tank be re-used and retrofitted for another system. With winter approaching, we need some hot water, wondering if we should just take the whole thing to the dump and install an electric system.

We had to install a new system (Dux) via a local distributor - they took away the old Ecosmart system which was rusted through. A totally bad investment - but at the time building our new home it was the system recommended by the builder. Good luck, Im sure a new system will be better than the wretched Ecosmart.
Here's what I did last August when were in the midst of Winter. I got nowhere with Dux. They wanted me to spend closer to $200 to get a Dux service repairperson. I refused. I did bit of research & found instant water systems are just as effective & its powered by Gas and electric. Electric portion ignites & the gas powers it. We are 3 people family. We all take late evening showers or early morning showers. I have a teen who basks in the hot water. I didn't notice my gas bill shooting up. After reading many appaling reviews who had post purchase issues with EcoSmart /dumb Eco system I decided to cut my losses & move to Therman26 instant heater. The new system cost me closer to be around 2K including installation. I had to get it done quick as all of us had to use very cold water for showers for two days in a row. You can read my review on the instant heater under my reviews. Looking back I am so glad I did this. I had to get the EcoSmart tank removed by the service technician who came to install Thermann26. He removed all electrical wires. We used exsisting gas connector for the instant heater. I had to get assistance to remove the massive 300 litre tank to be removed by our council pick up. I managed to distmantle to seperate the electrical /gas unit to just the tank part. Idea was to get two council pick up guys could life it with out heavy lifting equipment. Once you remove all of the extra heavy electric / gas power assembly, two people can lift the tank if you are in good shape. Please check with your coucil to make sure they can pick it up. My local area recycle place said they are happy to take if I can drop it off to them as well. Once we dismantle the system we noticed Eco System has been leaking around the elctrical part area. There was rust as well. The service tech told me the cost repair including labour be around 1K including specialised parts for it. We also have to wait for the parts to be delivered from a Dux servicesupplier. Who is going to wait for weeks at a time without a hot shower. That's crazy talk. I can do 3 days tops during mid winter without hot water. Not 2 weeks plus. When it comes water heaters or Aircondition/ heater issues they can't be fixed instantly if they require parts. Then you have to schedule a service tech during week day between 8-5 & be at home to get it done.
To your question are any parts salageble? I do not know the answer to that. Judging by what they service tech told me they are all specilised parts that only works with that unit, thus we have to order special parts to replace the broken parts. I did manged to remove ton of copper tubes. I believe they can be sold to a recyle place. Dismantling is not that hard. Need a good screw driver & couple of wrenches, an hour or more of your precious time. Don't forget to dump all of the 300 litres of water to your plants or back yard before you attempt to remove if you choose it do remove it. Repair person said he will take the unit to the local recyle yard for additional $100. One last thing. There solar heating element is still on the roof. It's no longer doing anything. I just let it be.

y used this water heater for 3.5 yrs. Life expectancy for such expensive solar heater can function for 3.5 yrs? My builder didn’t give me an option to choose a unit. I wish he had & after reading reviews on this forum I wouldn’t touch your product line. Today I had an independent plumber came to take a look at the issue. Guess what? the gas water tank was leaking, "there was rust on tank as well" [I have photos] & right around the pipes there was a small leak which he showed me that has been going for while as he explained the rust stain. The electronic mechanism is no longer working. The plumber tried to reset the unit according to the specs on the front panel. He couldn't not revive.
