Good at first but turned bad quickly.
First, the battery wouldn't charge out of the box so Total Tools swapped it for me. Then the self-propel stopped working. The fix-time was 6 weeks. Then after 2 years the battery started playing up, not holding its charge. I couldn't get a replacement as technically it still worked. Then, right on 3 years, which meant the warranty was over, the battery died. Replacement cost is $450.
I believe the good reviews for Ego products on the internet are being falsified. On the forums the problems with Ego mowers are well known.
Don't waste your money!
Purchased the EGO 50cm steel deck self-propelled lawn mower from my local Total Tools dealer back in January of 2022.
Since purchasing the mower, I have had two major failures of the machine. The first one was only six weeks after purchasing. I sought a refund but was unsuccessful due to EGO's ridiculous policy around refunds. The policy is not disclosed pre purchase and had I known the policy, I would have never purchased EGO products. I will admit that I should have done more research before purchasing.
EGO does not have a repairer in the ci
Great for 3 months, before it failed.
After researching all brands through numerous reviews and speaking with a few different stores who all raved about how Ego mowers are the best... I decided the Ego LM2022E-SP self propelled was worth spending $1250 to replace my old Aldi $250 special. For the first three months I thought that I had spent my money well - even gave my old petrol machine away. It worked like a charm, easy to operate, cut through grass easier than my old petrol machine and the self propelled function made it all very easy work. But 3 months in, it stopped part way
... Read moreinto a mow. No lights, no power, no anything. After finding that the phone number on all the Ego paperwork was disconnected, it should have indicated how this was going to go. I had to go searching to even find where to call! Eventually got there, was told I had to email, got a response fairly quickly and told to take it to a service agent. Annoying, but hoping it would be quick and seamless. Well 1.5 weeks since i dropped it off, no response from Ego warranty after my email chasing it up, my grass is now overgrown and wishing I could just get a refund. Wish I had seen these reviews first - it appears that failures are a very common issue. I rate the Aldi special buys $250 machine much higher than this - 5 years and it didn't miss a beat, only maintenance i ever did was clean the spark plug. Even if it had failed, I could buy 5x Aldi machines for the price of this horrifically overpriced Ego junk. Don't waste your money.
Very good, but not without limitations
I don’t know why I read reviews sometimes; it’s rare to find genuine reviews. By that, I don’t mean fake, rather, worthwhile. When people review an item before actually using it, or because they got a faulty unit out of the box is, IMO, worthless… especially when a new item is to be provided but someone is too impatient to wait for it to come in, because most stores only keep one of each model in stock. It’s impossible for companies to have a 100% quality rate, without smashing up the price to account for added scrutiny (like Apple), but Ego ar
... Read moree very good with warranty (the business you’re dealing through sometimes not so much). I’ve had ego equipment for years, and am constantly expanding my range. This was my mower of choice, and I don’t have much negative to say about it. It is powerful and reliable, sturdy and capable. I changed to electric from a Honda HRU196M mower and Honda GX35 brush cutter. Around 2010 models, so commercial level equipment. These were great machines, but my lack of weather resistant storage led them to premature deterioration. My Ego mower matched my Honda in power, but with a few drawbacks. First, I don’t cut my lawn religiously, every week. So I noticed the Ego’s struggle to pick up high volumes of clippings. I changed to a high lift blade and this helped immensely. Second, as with all electric motors, if you are going through heavy/thick/long grass, you don’t get the warning of it being about to stall. So it’s much easier to set the height to the maximum, so one pass, then pop it down to your finished height. One problem has been the catcher attachment holes/area getting clogged with dirt but I think they might have changed the catcher on the newer models. I’ve never had any issues with the electronics or batteries, have washed it, and have stored it in the same exposed position that I did with my Honda. 3 years on there is no signs of excessive deterioration.Find out how Ego LM2022E-SP compares to other Battery Lawn Mowers

Faulty mower out of the box
Not sure how to rate this mower, straight out of the box the variable speed drive had only one speed FLAT OUT.
I returned the mower where it was purchased from and they classified it as DOA and ordered a replacement.
Two weeks have passed and still no replacement mower. I am contemplating requesting a refund and purchasing a different brand.
Fantastic lawn mower
Had this mower over 4 years and it hasn’t missed a beat! Was skeptical at first to buy electric option but so glad we made the leap! Would never go back to petrol!

STAY AWAY - you are hereby warned!
This mower was highly rated by CHOICE magazine, to which I have subscribed for over 50 years. I was happy with the design and power of the model and bought one. Now that I have had it for 4 months and used it 4 times, it has failed twice and is currently in their repair shop awaiting parts. Many contacts with the retailer (Heidelberg Mowers) and the EGO Warranty office (not EGO themselves, they sub it to "Install and Fix Solutions" in Queensland), have not led to any resolution of the problem. A machine which was supposed to be reliable, easy t
... Read moreo use and covered by a long warranty has been nothing but a headache. My old petrol mower lasted for over 20 years with only an occasional spark plug and oil change. There must be a quality gap between the design and manufacture of EGO mowers. I have bought a STIHL battery electric mower for my daughter so hoping for a better result with that brand. The Ego Electric mower is a very competent lawnmower.
I had one of the first generation ego lawnmowers and found it to be very good, ( see my review on here) but decided it was time after three years to update to the latest model.
I have unboxed the new mower and give my lawn a once over, my grass was a little high as it's been two weeks since I mowed the grass but the new mower has bucket loads more power than the old one and cut through the grass easily, I was mowing green grass that was just a little damp and was very pleased that the grass catcher was actually stuffed into the bag very tightl
Great when it works
The mower is great... when it works. It has plenty of power to cut and the self propelled function is great up hills. However it went back for repair after 1 month after i went to use it and the only thing that worked was the self propel. No motor power etc. Got it back with everything working again only to pull it out today to have the same fault again. Not happy considering the $1099 price tag.

Model LM2022E-SP
Positive in that it is so easy to start, no fuel to worry about. Quick charge unit. Mows yard with power to spare. The self propel with variable speed helps a great deal, I don't feel as though I've been mowing at all; I use the medium speed range for my stride. It is a little long from front wheel to the handle but still very maneuverable. I find the 1 height cut okay for most of my yard, only change to 2 setting for the footpath which has a few height differences. I have had an issue with the battery dying after only 3months, but it was re

Have now discovered that the base plate is rusting underneath (it's just 6 months old) and only used around ten times. Will be asking the retail outlet where I bought it from what will happen with this. UPDATE 31.05.18 A new replacement mower arrived today:-)Questions & Answers
