Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
The silencer that now Screams
The vacuum is not even 6 months old and it has begun to emit a screaming sound when you increase the suction past 3. It is obviously a dud. Electrolux is not a product worth buying
Purchased in January 2021 for $399.00.

Best vacuum ever
Super Quiet, super suction. After 2 years the cord rewind still works perfectly and it takes the tough punishment with ease. Looks great too. Even when the bag is 95% full it still sucks like a champion. So much better than my old bagless machine which created a dust storm every time I emptied it into the bin. I LOVE this cleaner.

Very annoying to use, makes me angry every time i use it! Wonder who designed this one??
This is the WORST!!! vacuum cleaner i ever had!@!@: it's very heavy and hard to manoeuvre about.
It hardly rolls, i have to drag it behind me and the hose kinks easily!
Also the hose is too short, so almost impossible to reach to the ceiling trying to get to cobwebs. Have to stand on a stool to get to higher places.
It's awkward to hold with its curved handle which squeaks loud when it turns.
The floor attachment isn't going into corners and the switch where you change from carpet to tiled floor constantly snaps back. The "3 in one" crev...Read more

Vacuum cleaner
Lovely cleaner. So quiet and has lots of suction. This is perfect for when my housemates are asleep so I can do my vacuuming. My dog is not scared of it either. The handle is a great bonus. The size is perfect particularly for an apartment. Would recommend it to anyone.

Great vacuum cleaner
I've had this vacuum cleaner now for 2 months so it's had a good work out.
It is pretty quiet so I'm able to vacuum the house while the kids are in bed safe in the knowledge that I won't wake them.
It has adjustable suction powers for various floor types as well as a power head for carpets and a nifty little attachment that is a 3-in-1 multi tool.
My house is a 3 bedroom single level house with both tiles and carpet, the Ultrasilencer cleans both surfaces well.
One great feature of this vacuum cleaner is the 12 metre long cord, it means I don't have to unplug as I work around the house.

Quiet and efficient
We've had a few dud vacuums lately (cheap imported models from Godfreys), so we thought we'd try the Electrolux brand again, since the old barrel cleaners worked well in their day. This one is ideal for our purposes. It sucks up the debris, rather than throw it across the tiled floor like some Chinese brands did, and it's light, easy to drag, and quiet. I give it a 4 out of 5, which is good considering I'd rate previous purchases as 2 at best.

Great suction but not easy to maneuvre
This is a really good vacuum cleaner but it is not the easiest to use. I have a large area of half and half tiles and carpet with mats and steps.
The first thing I noticed was the hose is just too short. It is about 18" shorter than my last cleaner's hose. To do high or long reach spots without having the machine right on your heels makes it constantly annoying. The thickness of the hose is also a problem as it is bigger and therefore quite stiff when manoeuvring around items. It is more inclined to knock things over and does not bend as ea...Read more

Sooo disappointed!
After owning and loving an Electrolux Z5540 since 2002, I didn't hesitate to purchase the most similar new model in 2014. The old one had a much softer, more flexible hose, a curved wand that made vacuuming difficult low and high places possible, really useful tools attached to the handle and one head that did hard floors or plush pile carpet equally easily. The new one is only good for vacuuming floors and you really need to use different heads for different floors, and the tools are not as versatile. They had a good product in 2002. Why didn't they stick to it?

Great for pet hair
We have a fluffy white Pomeranian who sheds onto our grey/green carpet. Its invisible to the human eye. All previous vacuums we found just rolled the hair into clumps but wouldn't suck it up. We took along a small sample of our carpet and some sample hair after brushing our dog, to the shop, and this was the only one that worked. Brilliant.
Note to self, always try before you buy in the shop, with a piece of your own carpet (not the demo carpet and Kapok they use)
Small, very quiet, heaps of suction, comfortable handle which is easy to hold.
Did find it $30 cheaper online. It pays to research prices before buying.

Looking at purchasing one of these vacuums, but cant find anywhere what the size of the motor is? Can you please advise the wattage? Thanks. Lyn at [email protected]

Ours is a Classic Silence, and is 1800 W.
Good luck!
Online it says 1000w.. I am not sure as I have packed ann the info away but I can tell you that I have NEVER had a vac that sucks so well!
Hi Denlyn, My Electrolux is 2100 W. It has great suction, 5 settings from low to high suction. I find it a bit heavy to carry around especially if you have stairs. Also it does not have a reasonable length crevice tool. The one that comes with is it about 5cm long. Electrolux do not sell a proper length one that will fit the machine. (can buy one elsewhere that should fit the machine, I have been going to do this but just have not got there yet) If you do purchase one make sure you clean the filters every couple of months. There are 3 filters in the machine. I am pleased I bought mine as what it picks up of what I thought was a clean floor surprises you. Hope this helps you.
