Loudest Fridge Ever
Purchased new, plugged it in sounded like a mack truck starting up! Put a sound meter over it which read 55db. User manual states 40db. Went back to point of sale and put sound meter over new one on display with store staff same reading. Emailed Engel Australia about loudness, they will not respond!!!!! Too loud to have in house or at campsite. $2000 down the drain.
Purchased in March 2021 at BCF Physical Store.

Truly worth every bit of my hard earned $$$$
I've had Waeco it was the CF80 from memory and although it performed well, I don't know how many times I replaced the latches and hinges and the lid once! And it wasn't from abuse either. So I ended up selling it at a loss and purchased the Engel MT80FP yes it was more expensive but at the end of the day it just works and continually does so, no more broken hinges or latches no bowing lid, my only complaint is the noise from Engels compressor I could barley hear the one on the Waeco but when the one on my Engel kicks in you defiantly know it, m...Read more
ine is the single zone model reason being I had two mates that purchased the combi unit and they weren't to impressed with the performance on the fridge side. At the end of the day you get what you pay for I have no idea what the new Waeco CFX fridges are like so I can't comment on those but for me now and into foreseeable future it's Engel for meSimilar opinion? Cant believe how well made this is.
My journey in compressor fridges started with a Waeco. It was in frustration that I purchased this Engel Combi unit. What a comparisson, the Engels operation has been flawless. I havnt had one single issue with it. Its built tougher, The bag has a pocket, the kids can sit on it, in short this is the Fridge I should have stumped up for initially and paid the extra $300 bucks for. I have absolute confidence that I will recieve many years service from this unit. I know this Waeco/Engel argument continues add nauseum but having stumped up my hard e...Read more
arned on both its the Engel by TKO. You do need to realise that there is one compressor in this fridge so when you buy a combi you loose flexability. In short the Freezer will always be that unlike the other units. The combi suits us and having cold ice in your drinks..................well its the business. I dont work for Engel nor am I interested in infantile debates about what fridge anybody selected I have purchased both, still own both and strongly prefer the Engel as a portable fridge. My 80 Combi is a beauty, Its Bulletproof, The sawafuji swing motor is noiser in Comparisons with Danfoss BD 35 and BD 50 Compressors used in other fridges. My enquiries also reveal a working life many years beyond their quiter rivals.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Fridge Good - After sales service RUBBISH
Bought a MT80F in October, 2010. In May 2011 the little screw cap on the 12-volt lead (plug into cigarette lighter) broke. I emailed Customer Service - was basically told that it was of "superior quality" and to take it to the retailer I bought it from.
The retailer has told me that "they" meaning Engel are being rude and arrogant and difficult to deal with, and I would probably just get a replacement plug.
For a $1900 fridge/freezer a replacement (better quality) lead would not be too much to ask.
I'll will be trying a Waeco next time.
Fridge/freezer is good. Good Size for family
After sales service is RUBBISH, 12 volt lead is cheap and RUBBISH

How does the Combi work can I just use it as a fridge without using the freezer ?

Gday mate the Engel combi is built to be used as a fridge on side and freezer the other the center divider cannot be removed. You could possibly adjust the freezer temp but that would ultimately increase the temp in the fridge side and may not be viable
