I have been using my mother-in-law’s 1960’s Essteele saucepan and steamer set. I love them and they’re still in great condition apart from some expected wearing in the handles. My question is about toxicity and safety of saucepans this old. I believe that aluminium is often part of the stainless steel composite in saucepans. I know they have a lifetime warranty for use proper but what about metal leaching? Thanks.

Do the steel handles get hot when cooking on the stove? Currently have the saucepan with the silicone handles and thats nice to work with. Considering the metal handles now but worried about getting burnt when holding the handles while cooking on stove. Any comments are welcome. Thanks

Yes the copped bottomed pans work very well. You will be surprised how quickly a pan of water heats up - quicker than an electric kettle!

Is the Australis cookware set suitable for induction? I have read that pans with a copper base are not suitable.

Yes we purchased these specifically for our new induction top. If you jump in quick you might get the awesome discounts that we saw over the weekend, we needed a small frying pan, I am not sure if my wife or son purchased but I overheard the talking about large % discounts

I purchased a set of Esstele saucepans over 50 Years ago. They have been in continuous use and I am very happy with them. The handles have become brittle and in fact I have lost one. Can I replace them

I suggest you contact the importers but you’d be lucky if they still have parts after 50 years.

Hi No you wont as the newer ones are different. However you have a Lifetime Guarantee for normal wear and tear, it is different to the wording for the current guarantee so you should be covered. Contact Esteele through their website by filling in their form, you will need to take photos. I have just received a generous voucher to replace one of my small pans (25yrs old) as the bottom stainless steel part came off. I did have the original receipts, a copy of the guarantee, had registered my pans when I bought them and also had the care booklet. Hope that helps.

I bought an essteele sempre pan. The copper rim at the bottom is darkening and has done dark spots on it. This makes the appearance not as shiny and somewhat dull. Can this tarnish be removed?
Why is this happening?
Thanks

Hi. We have the copper bonded stainless steel essteele australis set. Is this induction safe? The only thing throwing me is the copper bonded. When I look at the essteele website....it seems like this is the same one on the website but no mention of copper in the material but it is visible on the bottom of the pans in their photos just like mine. Should have thought about this before we moved into our home!!!!!

I have a set Esteele Vita saucepans for use on an induction cooktop. One one my pots has become quite balck/burnt on the base and also on the copper rim at the base. This hasn't happened to any of the others. I've been using the saucepans for two years. Any ideas as to why this has happened?

I am no expert, but it could be because your pan is very old (like 5 years or so) or you are overheating it. I never go past halfway on the heating dial. My pan failed because it was badly made and the service was mediocre. I have found that the $19 4-coatings pan from K-Mart is still performing perfectly after 9 months of twice-a-day use.

It appears that Esteelle saucepans are great, but the frypans are not.

You need to bring your pan to temperature first, then add your fat (oil,, etc) and bring that up to heat. If the fat is too hot it changes chemically and food will stick, so do all this at a medium temp. Good luck

I bought a set of 3 Esteele per vita saucepans plus a steamer yesterday. I used the largest saucepan with the steamer to steam some green vegetables tonight for dinner. There was plenty of water in the saucepan and the steaming worked well. Later on, when I was emptying the water from the pan, I noticed about 8 little round brown/greay stains on the stainless steel at the bottom on the inside of the saucepan, scattered around at random. I couldn't remove these with a non-stick scourer and warm water with a mild detergent in it. Should I try something stronger? The instructions say not to use steel wool, coarse scouring pads or harsh abrasives. This was a brand new pan and I was surprised that this happened after just one use. I'd appreciate some help.

Hi Cookie, I am surprised that you cannot use a more abrasive cleaner than the scourer, but also ww have not experienced this issue. I would recommend contacting Meyer Cookware Australia ( agents for Esteele) I had brilliant service from them- ask the question!
My contact there was Danni and she could not have been more helpful. Good luck with the pans - they really are a great brand !

Why doesn't my Esteele 20cm Forza frypan work on my induction stove top?

Amber G.

Hello, the reason is because they are cast aluminium. It won't react with the induction cooktop. Essteele do have some induction capable product ranges, just make sure to check before purchasing (and keep in mind that aluminium only will not work) :)

Thank you for eventually replying. The frypan WAS an Induction frypan!!!! That's why I was asking the question!!!!! the shop had to return it to Esteele as faulty!!!!!

I have a 16cm and a 14cm esteele saucepan that were bought in 1968!!! The handles are loose and I fear unsafe. Are there replacement handles that will fit these models? Would the Raco handle fit - I can't tell in their advertisement if the end that fits against the saucepan is triangular or not.

I was just on the Essteele site and they have a spare parts section with quite a few handles. All pretty cheap ($8-11). I would suggest you have a look there. If it's not clear which is the right part they say, you can contact customer service. http://www.essteele.com.au/tools-accessories/spare-parts.html

Jennifer Cahill

The esteele handles were different, my saucepans are pretty old. However the Raco handle with the V shape on end fitted the bigger one - not the smaller on. A friend however worked out a way of building up the hole in the handle where the screw goes and now the screw and handle are secure - used a paper clip!

I love my Essteele saucepans I have used them since 1969. I ask if there would be a product to recoat the copper as my favourite pan has 2 cracks in the base. Kind Regards Janice

1 answer
JAID
JAID

Hi Janice, hope Esteele is watching, nearly a half century of use is fantastic and their answer would be interesting I am not sure if the copper was applied any differently in yours which pre-date mine by a few years but if similar this is my thought on it. The base is a thick slab (or sheet if you like) If that has cracked something unusual may be going on at the sub-strat. Copper doesn't have the highest melting point but at nearly 1100degC would require a special furnace so that isn't practical. It can be welded. Common equipment is used, rod selection and environment is important. The filler would leave a line at the cracks and then need grinding/sanding down. You may not be happy with all that.

What I would do...contact Esteele. I don't know what warranty is offered now but decades ago it was for a lifetime and the company supported that handsomely. It might seem mean to you when they have been so good for a half century but it was offered because they knew they had an absolutely premium product and were proud of it; they didn't want anything inferior out there. I know nothing about how ownership of the business may have changed since then but reckon they would appreciate the legacy.

Simmer a cup of vinegar and a tablespoon of salt for a short while and let sit then do again and again it should remove eventually. Gumption then brings it back to looking new.

Sandi L

Also you could try simmering a mixture of bacarb soda and vinegar for 20mins (simmer not boil) and it will lift right off, then finish off with a Magic Cube.

I have been told that you can only use saucepans on induction hot plates If a magnet could stay in the base

I am under the impression that copper based saucepans cannot be used. feedback for confirmation appreciated as I am also buying an induction hot plate

I have induction and they work perfectly. Almost anything can be used on induction except aluminium :) A good guide is to take a magnet with you when you are shopping, if it sticks to the bottom it's fine.

Thanks AppleBerry. I had a newer Australis steamer with the rubber handle and the magnet stuck to this one, but I have some older Australis saucepans with the black handle and the magnet didn't stick to these... Thanks for the advice and the magnet test. Perfect!

I don't know the answer this this question as it depends on the handle that you have. I know that if you have all metal handles then it is not a problem but I am not sure about the non-metal handles.

Sorry I could not be more helpful. However if you contact cookwarebrands.com.au they should help.

Warm regards

I have recently bought a set (with the non-metal/rubber feeling handles) and yes, you can but only up to 120 deg C

I have an older set of Essteele saucepans and by putting them in the dishwasher the handles have discoloured and one has broken. Where does one buy a new handle as I was under the impression they had a lifetime guarantee. A saucepan without a handle is not useable anymore.

I also put all my esteele sauspans in the dishwasher and have never had a problem. If your handles have broken then they should definitely be covered under the waranty. Might be best to ask where you purchased them from or look up your nearest Esteele dealer.

OK - I went to a web site at Cookware brands - http://cookwarebrands.com.au/store/index.asp

Try there first.

The person I ended up dealing with was Libbi (last name unknown) who was very helpful - perhaps she is there still - [email protected]

Best I can do for you.
