Hi, I’ve had my wily bear for around one year and use sporadically in winter. A couple of nights ago the steam stopped coming out as well, it’s a very small amount of steam. I use the tablets to clean but it seems to not be working as well. Any advice would be great.

If you look underneath is there a lot of mineral build up inside blocking the passage? If so - id leave it out of water for a day or two until it’s dry. Then gently tap it on the side of a sink to break up and loosen the buildup and knock it out of the internals.

Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Rachel! That's a good tip from Paul there, and yes sometimes even with the cleaning tablets the build up can get a bit gunky. Another good way to give it a deep clean is to add 2-3 tablespoons of white vinegar to a tank full of water and run for 6-8 hours or overnight. You can actually soak the unit in vinegar first to really loosen it. Hope these tips help! If not please shoot us an email at [email protected] Kind Regards, Euky Bear team

Bought Euky Bear 3 days ago - It DOESN'T steam! No steam emits from the unit, if so it is absolutely minimal. Can only smell the Eucalyptus smell for 5 to 10 minutes. stays on all night - unit is hot but no steam.
Is this faulty or is this what I have to expect.
Oh and using the tablets and have gray scale already.

Hi Sbee
After using it all night, has the water level dropped? If so, the unit is operating correctly. These units don't produce noticeable steam, they're designed to slowly and gently humidify a room overnight. The therapeutic effect is in the general humidity of the room. As for the scent of the inhalant, our senses do get used to a smell after a short time and it doesn't smell as noticeable. The scientific name for this is olfactory adaptation. Odor receptors stop sending messages to the brain about a lingering odor after a few minutes and instead focus on novel smells.
If using for an adult, you can add a little more inhalant - stick to the recommended dose for children.
In regards to the grey flakes, you would need to email images for us to assess properly, but in most cases, flaky or gritty residue after use is due to minerals in your tap water. Using the cleaning tablets won't stop this happening - they're simply designed to reduce the likelihood of scale buildup inside the machine.
You can occasionally do a "vinegar flush" which also helps keep it clean - add 2-3 tablespoons of white vinegar in a full tank of fresh water and run for 6-8 hours or overnight. This is great for any odours which develop over time from mineralisation too.
If you have any further concerns you feel are warranty related, feel free to email us at [email protected] Kind Regards, Euky Bear.

Hi! Euky Bear only makes a warm steam vaporiser, not a cool mist, so if it's Euky Bear it will be warm steam. Kind Regards, Euky team.

Is this good for asthmatics & allergies?

Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Shelly
This device isn't indicated for asthma or allergies - it's for colds, flu, croup & bronchitis - however, we have heard that some people get relief from their symptoms with the warm steam, especially for allergy symptoms like a dry itchy throat and dry eyes. As always, consult your doctor to ensure any complementary therapies fit with your asthma or allergy management plan.

I don’t have a scent coming from the euky bear even though I’ve used the euky bear steam vaporiser oil. Is it normal?

I had the Vick’s one and it was so strong and this one has barely any scent but when I open the vaporiser up, the scent is all inside and really strong.

Brought it back to Chemist warehouse and they said for me to come back and try it with a different vaporiser oil. Hesitant to do this as I don’t want to void my warranty. So please advise.

Thanks.

Hi Dave
The Euky Bear unit is different to the Vicks, as you've noted in another comment the Vicks has big open vents which could account for the difference in scent - the closed nature of the Euky Bear, on the other hand, means it's more quiet, which is the selling point for many.
You could try upping the amount of inhalant in your unit, as long as it's only adults in the room with it (don't increase for children). Or you could try a different inhalant - it's strange because our parent company also produces Vicks Vaporizers and Inhalants and Euky Bear is actually stronger than the Vicks one. But you won't void your warranty if you try a Vicks inhalant with this - perhaps go the Vicks Double Strength one. We're the same company and the formulas are similar enough. You can quote me on that!
Good luck!
Carla from Euky Bear.

Hi, my last vapouriser could be placed on any surface as long as it's flat, what's the reason for the euky bear having to be on the flood, and when I did put it on the floor I couldn't smell anything or sense much steam, is it meant to take a while before we smell it?

I don’t even know to be honest. I have the Vick’s one and it’s so strong and works amazing but this Euky bear one has no scent as all...

I took it to chemist warehouse and they said it worked fine? They tested it at the back of their store room.

Maybe because the Vick’s one has a bigger opening.

If you find out do let me know!

Thanks, just so sick of wasting money to find out they aren't very good. I have a TAAV and it starts off fine but then by 2am I can't smell anything, then the automatic switch off didn't work as well as it smelt of smoke, s9 bought the euky bear.

Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Kat
We prefer this placed on the floor for safety reasons. As a warm steam device if it gets pulled or knocked over, or pulled down on a child's head from a cabinet, it can be dangerous. Out of the way on the floor is safest.
The Euky Bear has a subtle flow of steam, you won't be able to "sense" or see it initially, but it should effectively steam up the room within several hours. As for the smell, our noses do become used to the scent after a certain time making it seem less strong. Are you using our Euky Bear inhalant in it?

Kind Regards, Euky Bear.

Hi, sometimes we have our euky bear humidifier on all night and in the morning my throat and chest feels dry. My baby wakes up with a dry cough, but through out the day she seems fine its only in the morning after using the humidifier.

Hi Mary
What inhalant are you using and how much? It sounds like you and bub could be sensitive to the essential oils in the inhalant. You should definitely not wake up feeling tight and dry in the chest. You can use the Euky Bear Vaporiser without any inhalant at all -it's actually the warm steam that has the most therapeutic effect.
If the tightness and cough continues, please consult your doctor. It may also be unrelated.
Kind Regards, Euky Bear.

My vaporiser is making strange bubbly sounds should that be happening

Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Grace
It's normal for there to be a very faint sound, but Euky Bear units are generally pretty quiet. Firstly some troubleshooting:

- Not overfilling the unit?
- Using only Euky Bear approved inhalants? (ie. not pure essential oils, not chest rub)
- Adding inhalant BEFORE you add the water?

If you're doing all of this and it's still making the same spitting noises please get in touch with our team on Freecall 1800 655 841 during business hours.

Can I use vaporiser along with ceiling fan on and windows open? Will the vaporisers make the room hotter in summers?

2 answers
Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Neha, good questions. Yes we always recommend having some ventilation in the room e.g. door slightly ajar or window slightly open to ensure there is not too much humidity build up in the room. The Vaporiser is designed to increase room humidity (how much moisture is in the air) via steam - technically it is not increasing the room's temperature, however it can give the perception that the room is 'hotter' similar to what you might feel in a more humid/tropical environment. Hope that helps a little. Kind regards, Euky Bear team

I’ve just used my vaporiser for the first time and followed the instructions. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of steam coming out.... is there a trick or is my machine faulty? Should I see steam coming out? There is a little bit but not as much as I thought.... thanks....

Hi Charlotte, Yes there should be steady flow of steam you can see, and it generally looks more like a gentle mist or consistent steam which looks light and fluffy coming through the vaporiser steam outlet. However as I know this can be a little hard to interpret, best thing to do would be to call our Customer Service team who may be able to help describe this to you further if something doesn't seem quite right to you. If you had a quick video or something you could send them that might also be helpful. Morris M.asked

Hi,
I just purchased the vaporiser recently.
Just want to check if its normal to find some residue like ash in the water? It come out from the hole.

1 answer
Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Morris, most of the time grainy or flaky deposits in the vaporiser are mineral deposits from tap water. Mineral deposits are harmless and arise from heating water at high temperatures which solidify certain minerals (such as calcium) naturally occurring in water. The frequency of occurrence can depend on how hard the water is in your area. For a small amount of consumers we have found they are experiencing a separate issue where some of the coating of the heating element is flaking off into the water. Both types of 'flakes' are non toxic and are not a health hazard, but we understand it may cause concern and confusion. We are always happy to help trouble shoot, and assist with a placement if it is found to be a coating fault. If you have concerns please contact our Customer Service team on 1 800 655 841 and they will be able to assist. Kind regards, the Euky Bear Team

Hi I was wondering whether there is a maximum room size in which the euky would be effective? My baby’s room is large with a high ceiling.

1 answer

Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi CCB
We don't have specific information relating to room size however the Euky Bear Vaporiser will eventually humidify any size room, it just takes longer with larger ones. To assist the process in a very big room, you can close the windows and doors. The recommendation to keep a door open is to prevent excess condensation, which isn't usually as much of an issue in a big or airy room.
Hope this helps!

JLPasked

Hi, I've just started using my new euky bear vaporiser and after running it over night I found a lot of grey flakes in the water in the morning. Some flakes were large (about the size of a finger nail. It is only the second time it has been used in as many days. I used the cleaning tablet with the first use as advised. Is this normal for a new unit?

1 answer
Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi JLP
Thanks for getting in touch with your query! It's normal for your vaporiser to produce some residue after use - this is minerals that come from your tap water. It's harmless & should just be washed away when you rinse out the container. The cleaning tablets won't prevent the residue occurring; they just protect the motor from a build up of scale.
In a small amount of cases it could be a different issue, there have been some reports linking large grey flakes to coating deterioration inside the unit from some models produced last year. There's no health or safety issue, but the vaporiser would need to be replaced as the coating is needed for heat resistance.
In order to better judge is it possible to send through some photos of the residue you have? Please send to [email protected] and referrence that you've come from Product Review please. We'll check it out and get back to you if it needs replacing under warranty. Or you can phone us on 1800 655 841 and we can simply deal with it over the phone. Hope we can help you out soon. Kind Regards, Euky Bear.

Hanirah P.asked

Can it be used while the ac is on at night?

1 answer
Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Hanirah
It can; but as it's a device that is designed to increase room humidity, refrigerated airconditioning (which is drying to the air) can counteract the effect somewhat. Evaporated air conditioning is better, and a fan is fine. But it will still work with airconditioning regardless of the type. Kind Regards, Euky Bear.

Hi. We just got a euky bear humidifier and I was wondering if it's okay to use the sniffy nose inhalant with my 6 month old and if so how much is safe to use?

Hi Georgina
Yes, the Sniffly Nose Inhalant is suitable for all ages. You may use what's recommended on the directions for use, or you could halve the dose to begin with and build up from there. We do always recommend to keep the door open slightly while your vaporiser is running to allow some air circulation.

Hi it is advisable to use cleaning tablets when using vaporiser for the first time right? So can i add the inhalant also along with the cleaning tablets?

Hi Pam
Yes, you can use them anytime you like really - and yes, you can add them right in with the inhalant, it cleans while it steams! We do recommend using them at least every 3-4 uses, more often if you're in a "hard water" area.

Hi Heidi Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us.
If the room is well ventilated then it will be fine to use around your dog. Please ensure to only use the suggested amount of inhalant when in operation or alternatively it can be used without.

Instead of using the tablets, how much Citric Acid could I use to descale the machine?
At the end of the night, the water is very dirty (not just the black sediment) is this a concern with the room?
Thanks!

1 answer
Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Nicole
We're sorry we missed your query over the Christmas break! You can use about a teaspoon of citric acid however we recommend using the Euky Bear cleaning tablets because the slow-release tablet formula is much kinder on the unit over time. Using pure citric acid can increase wear and tear on the heat-resistant coating.
Sediment in the water after use is normal - this is minerals from your tap water and is harmless, just flush away after use. Cleaning the unit with the tablets or by other methods won't affect the sediment, which will still occur. It just helps prevent scale build up. My cat sleeps on my head. Is it safe for her to inhale this as well? Im really worried I might kill her.

1 answer
Euky Bear
Customer ServiceEuky Bear

Hi Happy
No, we do not recommend running this with inhalant in overnight with a cat in the bedroom. Research on essential oils and pets is limited, but we know that some essential oils can make cats very sick. If you can't keep your cat out of the bedroom while this is in use, your best option is to use it with just the steam running and no inhalant.
You can also ask your vet for more specific advice.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards, Euky Bear.
