Hi, my fridge has been running on 240v (constantly) for the past 36 hours and has not gotten below 4c. It is set at -5c. The fridge is approx 1/3 full of ice packs from my freezer which I rotate from freezer to fridge every 4 hours or so. Prior to placing the ice packs in, the fridge ran 17c empty. It is coming up to 4 years old and has not been subjected to rough conditions. Ambient temperature today was up to 33c. Am I doing something wrong or is it the fridge?

Hi Jim,
Mate if the fridge only comes down to +17 C, empty, then it has a big problem. Maybe it needs a re-gas. If the motor/compressor sound OK, as these fridges are fairly quiet, then I think it will be a re-gas.
I have had mine in the tub of a twin cab with a hard lid, on a 43degree day, set on -2 C, and after 4 hours of travel, opened a stubby, out of the fridge, and a few little icicles formed when I took the top off the stubby, perfect temperature.
I have found set at -2 degrees, it will climb to +2 degrees before the compressor starts up again.
The only other thing is that there needs to be some room between items in the fridge so the cold air is able to circulate within the fridge.
Empty on a 31 degree ambient temp day, on 240v, set on 0 degrees C, the.fridge will pull down to 0 degrees in approximately 1/2 an hour, then the compressor will shut off, until the temp goes back up til 3-4 degrees, when the compressor will start again.
If the compressor keeps running, then it needs a re-gas and the sooner the better, as the motor and compressor are not really made to run all the time, IE the duty cycle is not 100%
Let me know how you go
Cheerio,
John

Hi, Thanks for your prompt response. Your answer was the one I suspected, but hoped that it may have been the way I set it up or something else. Thanks again.

EvaKool Travelmate Glacier Series G50.
I bought it Jan 2018, no problems till my latest trip. It is now draining my 6 month old 105 AH battery down to 11 volts over night with the error light glowing red each morning. The night ambient temperature at the time ranged between 1 & 8 degrees.
I had the battery tested by Century & they say it's as good as new. I had the fridge checked by an approved repair shop, no fault found. I had my wiring checked by a sparky, no voltage drop over the length of my heavy cable.
I noticed in the (air conditioned) repair shop that the power light appeared to remain green continuously but in the back of my cruiser the power light is orange when the compressor isn't running & green only when it is running.
Is the power light meant to be orange in between compressor cycles?

Hi Garry, thank you for your message. That is correct, when the unit has cycled off, the orange light will be displayed. When the unit is running, the greem light will be on. If you have any more questions, please feel free to call us on 07 5492 7777 or email [email protected]. Kind regards, Tracey- EvaKool Warranty and After Sales Manager.

Thanks Tracy, I'm now looking at logging power drawn over a few days & will buy a larger solar panel & possibly another 105 ah battery before my next trip. I'm just a little confused as to why my almost new battery is no longer adequate when the same size was in the past.

Hi i have a travelmate glacia model its 3 years old and been working fine.I have it set at -3 and when its down to temp it cuts out and restarts again at +2 but in the last week it does the same sort of but when it gets to -3 it slowly gets warmer then sits on 0 for about half an hour then when it gets to +2 it takes about 45 mins to get back to -3 where it used to only take about 5 mins or so ?? Thermostat or something like that do you think?? No change in contents its always got a carton of beer in it and its a 50 litre

Hi Stevo normally when a thermostat stops working the compressor will run continuously and the temp will keep dropping below the -3 degrees setpoint. I assume you have done all the standard things like turning it off for half a day then on again and swapping 12v to 240v to see if there is any difference. Other than that I wouldn't know.

Hi mate, it might be worth checking the condensor ( radiator looking thing fans blow through ) if it is dirty it won't cool the gas and then there is no or little heat transfer which will affect the cooling ability. Blow out with compressed air. Be careful not to damaged the fins. Hope this helps.
